Chapter 2: Chapter 3.2 - White - Pair Up
I was having a hard time thinking up for words that I'm supposed to say to the new Zenith. She was still standing there right in front of me, patiently. It was getting a little bit awkward until she asked me once again,
"Hey, do you hear me? Are you alright?" her voice was no longer monotonous.
I nervously responded, "I'm...uh...I'm alright. You?"
"Oh I'm fine. I guess you were kind of in a hurry or something?"
To which I quickly replied, "Oh no. Not really. It was Rose. You know her right? One of your classmates, she pushed me and somehow this happened." I nervously laughed after saying that as if I was trying to make a joke out of it.
Despite my nervousness, she laughed a bit about what I told her and said, "I see. Well yes, I know her. And from what Rose had told me, you are probably White. Cyclone White. She said I was always close to you."
"Oh...um..." I gave a quick glance back at Rose and moved my mouth as if I was saying, "What did you told her?" to her then I quickly turned back to Zenith. I think she was waiting for an answer but I don't really know what to say.
"Well, other than the fact that she told me that we're very close before this, I guess we can start knowing each other once again, right?" She suddenly handed out her right hand toward me.
I'm not sure how to respond to that but my body automatically grabbed her hand and we shake our hands with each other as if we just met today.
As we finally finished 'getting to know' each other. I kind of had a slight courage to ask her something. But as I was about to say what I had in mind, I was immediately interrupted by an announcement.
"The evaluation test will begin soon. Be advised that the evaluation test will be held inside the testing hall in just a few minutes. All participating students, please get inside the hall for the briefing. Thank you."
We all heard that and Zenith then said to me, "Looks like the test is starting. Good luck with the test, White."
"Uh...Yeah. Good luck to you as well." And I still fail to say her name.
I thought I would finally get the opportunity to tell her everything but I guess it wasn't really a good time for me to talk about that. Not to mention it's going to take a long time. If only Mei was here to help me. She probably know a spell that could help me out.
But in any case, once everyone got inside the hall. We saw a podium on the stage along with a bunch of officials waiting for everyone to get settled in. There was an interesting character standing behind the podium. He was wearing a officer hat along with some official military grade uniform. No, I'm not saying he was wearing the uniform where you wear in the fields, I meant the outfit during a formal event. Plus, he also has a cape.
He begins checking his mic and introduced himself, "May I begin? Very well. My name is Roy Gates but you can call me Officer Roy and I will be your examiner today."
The tone of his voice was filled with determination and confidence within him. He was certainly someone recognizable in the country.
Officer Roy continued, "The test will be separated into three different test. Each test will determine your progress in terms of your magical abilities as well as your adaptability toward a situation. In these test, not only your brains and brawn will be tested. Your teamwork capabilities will also be tested. Which brings me to something new that we have never done before."
I did heard from the government that they wanted to experiment on something about the evaluation test that was done yearly. The complaints they heard from student was that it was too long for everyone having to wait for their turns for the test. So I assume, this experiment will be tested on us. I guess being one of the academy that was sponsored by the government means that all experiment starts from here. We're the guinea pigs now, huh?
"You will all be paired up randomly according to your classroom. You will be paired up with a randomly selected classmates and you two will have to get through all three test together. The result will be marked individually by our experts as usual so remember, don't you dare use your partner for everything. You have to be smart, strong and have a good communications skill with your partner. I don't care if you haven't fully met your classmates it is your responsibility to adapt to the situation. Because in a real situation, there is never a choice. You have to live with it and use it to best of your ability. That is how you become a wizard."
And with that, Officer Roy finished his speech. Fine speech indeed. But before I was even able to collect my thoughts, an announcement told us to wear this bracelet that looked like it came from a science fiction film. Apparently it was a Academy modified, Wizard Profiler. The brand the academy used was apparently the same brand as the Dimensional Inventory. This will definitely be interesting.
So what is it? It's kind of like a watch where you can check your physical and mental status. Kind of like one of those things they call, smartwatches. Since this thing was modified specifically for this test, a lot of its feature were omitted for the sake of it. It can actually do a lot of things but in this case, it is only limited to our self being and also some information that will be transmitted into the bracelet display screen.
Once I wore the bracelet and booted up the system. It immediately checked for my ids and everything. It got everything right. My names, my age, my student id, even my abilities. But funnily enough, it only displayed Space Manipulation. My other ability which was stopping time itself seems to not be fully detected by the bracelet. Or maybe its only capable of fitting one ability. Who knows. After verifying my information, I got a message from the bracelet itself which tells me who was my partner.
"Hey, White. How are you? How's your break?" I was surprised by my class Cardinal, Lala.
"It was...a blast. I guess?" I was kind of unsure about that but I continued, "So who's your partner? It's got to be Ziggs, right?"
"Maybe you should look at the message, White."
"It says...Lala Magnetite...It's you? I'm pairing up with you?"
"Looks like that's the case. Welcome aboard, White."
"Oh my. I didn't expect this."
I definitely did not expect this to happen. I feel so small compared to my cardinal, Lala who was miles away better in terms of her wizardry skills. I was kind of afraid I would be slowing her down. But I took it as a challenge and see whether if I'm up for it or not.
Lala was getting ready, "Let's finish this test together, White. You and me. Both Crystal eaters."
"Crystal eaters?"
Oh yeah, I forgot about that...I'm not the only one here with two abilities...
