Chapter 40: Old P’s tasks and tests
Within the a room in the Pewder City inn, Kimi was seated with an opened package by her side which contained a simple camouflaged hoody, pants and a goat skull shaped white mask which had been custom made for her along with some other things.
Most of the things inside were to hide her identity while others were used to prevent traces of herself being let behind where she went.
Various hair nets, bands and hats were within along with sets of gloves and some sprays which could be used to clean up various places.
Old man P had been very thorough in his preparations before he had left the city behind him and had left behind many things which could help Kimi in her criminal activities.
They had been in contact and Kimi was sat on the bed surrounded by Growlithe and Espeon who lay at her sides as a laptop rested on her.
She continued to read through the information which had been sent to her for to study since she had become old P's student and collaborator.
In front of her was a detailed report on the genetic memories of Pokemon and the relation to why most Pokemon only use four moves in most cases. "Hmm.. most believe that four moves is the limit for most Pokémon and that they will forget everything they had learned from their unlearned moves but that is incorrect. Due to their limited genetic memory or capacity, it is easier for them to focus their efforts on learning fewer moves to maximise their survival and power so they will only use certain moves by instinct or habit.
It is simply their way of prioritising certain things and gaining a better mastery over them while they will either block out the use of previous moves or will not use them so the moves will become weaker or the mastery over it will become much less.
Too many moves will cause confusion for each of the Pokémon but it is not impossible to learn past the four main moves which is shown with the use of technical machines which allows one or two more slots for moves to be learned outside of their genetic memories. There is proof that moves are not completely forgotten and discarded by how Pokémon can be trained to relearn a forgotten move.
Some more advanced trainers had been seen with Pokémon which had been trained to use their other moves too but they only use them in certain situations and not in real combat due to them being weaker than their main moves in terms of combat power and mastery over them.
The closest descriptions to this kind of study would be related to memory problems seen in humans and can be categorised as either a blocking or transience problem. Transience in particular has many similarities in the way it is described to how Pokémon recall or use those memories.
By blocking or putting less useful or outdated information to the back of their minds immediately or over time, they are able to recall or use the new and relevant things they have learned or experienced. Those things they had learned from the use of past moves would not be completely forgotten and could be applied to help the mastery of their newer moves.
In some cases, the levelling or talents of a Pokémon could help increase their learning or memory limits as shown when using technical machines as one is the limit for beginner Pokémon but two can be seen to be used on higher level Pokémon which have been brought up by trainers.
There have been many examples of many wild red and orange potential Pokémon that have only been using two or three moves as their maximum while yellow and green have been using the standard four moves. The studies into higher potential talents and shiny Pokémon is still ongoing so their limits are not yet determined but some guesses can be made that their limits will be one or two more slots being available.
Of course these need further studying and would need a qualified trainer to put their trainer through repetition and pushing the limits of their Pokémon to see if it is possible. The minimum amount of moves that can be used efficiently is three with the additional technical machine spot while the maximum would be five with one or two technical machines spots.
In the field of study of Pokémon, there are still many things let undiscovered and there are some abnormalities which cannot be completely explained by common sense and science alone. There are still many undiscovered mysteries surrounding this world which have not been unearthed.
Even as our own science has progressed, we find ourselves discovering new possibilities just like with many types of potions, stones and more advanced methods like technical machines which have helped rewrite those laws or restrictions we have believed to be set in stone."
As Kimi read more, the more she gained insights into many areas which she had not known about before. 'I had seen some similar things done by more advanced trainers in the league so this is not completely wrong. Perhaps it has something to do with their habits and familiarity with their moves? It is kind of like using a lower grade skill then getting a higher grade one, most would use the new one because it is better and would rarely go back to using that old skill. Since it is not used, it is left forgotten in the skill list and the user will become rusty in the use of it.'
It was possible for the Pokémon to recall and make use of their old or forgotten abilities but they needed to be taught on how to become familiar with the use of them and get out of the habit of using their most useful or primary moves.
The information had stated and Kimi had come to the conclusion that it was possible for a Pokémon to train to gain the use of more than four moves on a regular basis and they could possibly increase their limit within their genetic memory but it required a lot of repetitive training or a higher grade of talent or level to do so.
Whichever one it was had not been discovered but some shiny Pokémon had some unusual traits that made them stronger than others and more talented so Kimi was had set her sights on a certain Pokémon in her possession to test out the theory.
There was a clear difference between wild and captured Pokémon in terms of their ability to learn more moves and having more options in battles due to there being technical machines and other things like held items or potions to assist in combat.
The advancements in science had helped in building a world where it was much easier for a Pokémon to survive and become stronger if they had a rich or capable trainer as their master.
One of the tests for Kimi was to read through many things old P had sent to her and to properly study them before writing a report back based on her own thoughts and understanding of what she had read.
Kimi tapped on the keyboard on her laptop quickly as she begun writing her response while Espeon stretched out her body on the bed and her tail curled up a little as her back was pointed towards the ceiling. "Espeon!"
Growlithe had her eyes closed as she rested comfortably snuggled up against Kimi's body then glared towards where the noises were coming from due to her being woken up. "Growlithe!"
Kimi rolled her eyes and placed her finger to her mouth. "Shh.. just give me a little while to work then we can go out."
After she had spent a long time completing her assignment, Kimi thought of something and started writing another email. "I should start sending old P the details on location of the Leaf Stones. There should still be many to mine and I would be stuck here too long if I wished to continue mining them. There are chances of the ground caving in on me too if I mine too much… one more visit tonight then I will leave."
She continued tapping on the keyboard of her laptop and sent the details along with her plan on how she suggested handling it.
While she had went out to train, reduce the population of wild Pokémon and mine the Leaf Stones in the Veridian Forest once again, an old man far away was reading through his emails and had shown a slight smile. "It seems that my pupil has some potential after all. Hm? Another email.. is this kid lucky or what? To think she came across a Leaf Stone mining location, if this is done correctly then this could bring in a lot of research funds and extra to support this cooperative relationship between us two. I am liking her even more now. Ahaha."
He opened up his private account on the dark web and set up a room where many people could enter and bid then started to invite many of the people who he knew on there which had enough Pokédollars to spend.
The name of the room had been called Leaf Stone mining information auction then the room had been set on a timer for when it would begin while there was the option for others to join or be invited if they were from a specific region.
When Kimi was busy mining the last stones that she could get, the auction was underway and the information would be sold to the highest bidder while the Pokédollars would be sent to one of old P's more private and illegal accounts.
The Pokédollars would remain there until they would be laundered and cleaned so that they could be used without catching anyone's eyes as illegal funds which were circulating in the world.
Old P was familiar with hacking and tracking such movements to find criminals so he knew how to spot the telltale signs so he knew how to do it without leaving behind any suspicious traces.
A little later, the final winner of the auction had won and sent their payment to the account then received the information on the exact location along with a photo which had been taken of the inside of the underground mine and the entrance in Veridian Forest along with a map which had been marked with the location.
While Old P was handling the final parts of the transaction and was closing down his laptop, a Porygon had appeared on his screen as it assisted him as he typed quickly and prevented any chances of being tracked or hacked into.
Once the laptop had began to shut down, the Porygon on the screen disappeared then materialised by the side of old P. "Porygon!"
Old P showed a slight smile. "Good job partner, those crooks keep trying to get to us but they are still far too inexperienced. Hahaha."
The eyes of Porygon turned upwards which showed its happiness. "Pory Porygon!"
Old P held out a Pokéball and collected Porygon within. "It would be best for us to stay on the move for now so let's get moving."
Once he had completed his task, he went back on his journey to find himself a set location to set up a base of operations where he could work from.
Meanwhile within another location, a Team Rocket executive had contacted Giovanni in a secure and private channel with their recent gains and had talked about how they would approach the situation.
Giovanni had his face hidden in the darkness on the screen and spoke in a tone which was filled with complete confidence. "I will arrange a small team to scout the area with you. If you have made the right decision and this is a profitable venture then I will not forget your contribution and you can be in charge of this operation. You will be rewarded handsomely for your contribution to the organisation."
Once the conversation had ended, the person who had won the auction had celebrated their luck.
The auctions on the dark net that sold information could always be scams but there were a lot of details and images to back up the claims so he believed that it was the real thing and that he had struck gold. 'If we can take the lead on this then the profits will be huge. It does not matter if I have to pass this onto the boss or the organisation since they will do most of the difficult work. Ahahaha.'
What Kimi had discarded because she could no longer make use of it had become someone else's treasure but that did not mean she had lost out.
The Pokédollars gained from the sale of the information would help in creating funds to create the foundation for her and old P in their cooperation relationship and future operations.
