Chapter 17: Chapter 16 - Progress (1)

Quite a while had passed since she had started to work out and train in her little training arc as she would often call it in her mind.

A few months in fact— with the year soon coming to an end. Christmas was just right around the corner and in a week she would normally be celebrating it.

She said normally since that wasn't the case in this situation since she had no one to celebrate it with.

Granted— that wasn't all that uncommon given her unsavory past, however, even in her darkest of times she would make time to celebrate Christmas alone in some way.

From decorating a little, to even just getting herself a gift.

Unfortunately, she couldn't do that in this situation.

It seems that either the wizards here didn't celebrate Christmas or didn't care to explain it to her because not a single one told her about Christmas or decorated her room.

Not one.

And aside from learning things from the people here, she really didn't have any other way to gain this information, which meant she couldn't bring up the fact that Christmas was coming.

Because how would she have learned it.

So that was a bit disappointing to her all things considered. But she didn't let it get her down because her progress on the other hand was much better.

She progressed a lot.

It wouldn't be an understatement to say that herself from a few months ago wouldn't recognize how she was now at all. At least that's how she saw it.

And no— it wasn't because she was bald.

It was actually the opposite actually— she grew a lot more over the course of just some months.

This growth wasn't unfounded however because it came with her progressing her absorption of magic into her body, along with further adapting to better use her darkness.

This, along with her training gave her a better-rounded body, and where she was once skinny and malnourished looking, she was now fit.

She was taller than most kids her age, standing at around 4'7— which made her quite happy since she wouldn't have to worry about being short in this life.

One odd thing she noticed however was as she grew stronger and older, her hair grew a lot longer, and the golden hue in her eyes got much brighter.

And this would normally be overlooked as simple growth if it was normal— but it was anything but normal.

At this point her hair was dragging behind her as she walked— that was how long it was. And her eyes were so golden that they almost looked like they glowed.

This would've been a big red flag for the people that worked here if she didn't constantly use her illusions to hide them.

Which brings us to the next part— her physical strength which she also had to hide.

The growth that the training and magic did to her body wasn't just limited to her looks— she also grew a lot stronger from her past self.

So strong in fact that she was sure she would be on par with normal human adults at this point— not that she really had a way to test it since she had no human adult to fight.

And while this growth would normally be abnormal, it was anything but reassuring to her.

Due to the simple fact that if she was able to grow this much within a span of just a few months from absorbing the magic into her— how much would wizards that have had years to absorb the magic would be?

And just how strong would magical beings that were born stronger than normal wizards would be— like werewolves and vampires?

Just that fact alone made her not satisfied with her growth so far, causing her to want to strive further and become better.

She was also disappointed she didn't become strong enough to defeat her enemies in one hit like a certain someone but she expected as much.

But besides her physical growth, she was much happier with her magical growth over the months and quite surprised with it as well.

Starting with the growth of her darkness ability— which was the one she spent the most time on training since it was something that was deeply engraved in her existence— it had the most growth.

She was now able to do basic illusions, such as cloaking herself, making something look somewhat different, or making a fake recording as she did before without any form of drainage.

Meaning she could basically do it forever, with no current limit as to how much she could make. Granted she never tried making an absurd number so she wouldn't know if it had one.

She was now also able to make the darkness construct solid even while they were moving, allowing her to use them as weapons or even tools.

She was also able to make bigger darkness constructs now. Nothing insane— just stuff up to her height, stuff like walls, stairs, and so on.

One thing she was very pleased with about her darkness training, was the fact that she could now store a lot more things in the darkness like she had done with the book.

Allowing her to have an inventory on the move that was much more useful.

The largest thing she had stored in it so far was her bed— and she was sure she could store more since she had nothing else to test it with.

Unfortunately. the larger the thing she stored in the darkness was, the more energy it drained constantly to support itself. Meaning while she could store the bed in her darkness, she would run out of energy in days at most.

Not that any of that mattered since she had no reason to store an entire bed in the darkness, as of right now, and she was sure she would grow even more by the time she needed to.

But that wasn't all she could do with her darkness.

She was now able to move around while being in the darkness, however, she was only able to move to any darkness connected to the one she went into.

While limiting, it was very useful if she could use it properly in order to get out of here, but she had no plans of getting out just yet.

That was about it for her darkness— everything else was either minor or unrefined, so she did not need to overthink them right now.

But her magic progressed a lot too.
