Chapter 2: Fierce, over the desk.

"I want that draft amended, and on my table before tomorrow morning." Charlotte yelled in her overly spacious office where she sat as she flung the folder containing the files at him with each piece of paper scattering into different directions as the wind willed.

Liam, with a morose facial expression looked at her face which was unrepentantly devoid of sympathy or any sort of affection. He then proceeded to pick up all pieces of paper in a hurry to get out of her hair. There was one of the papers which had fallen to her table, and as he extended his hand to pick it up, she gave him a stern bullying face which he didn't understand.

"Have I upsetted her again?" Liam asked himself, feeling sorry for the next insults that would hit him in a jiffy.

"What is that on your finger? I get that your life is shit without me in it, but are you clueless too? Take that ring off. At work, you're nothing to me. Just another employee who lives by the crumbs I benevolently offer. Cchhh!" Charlotte expressed with disgust and ego as his frightened gaze could barely keep up with hers.

"I'm sorry. I really am." Liam replied fidgeting and loosely breaking a sweat from his forehead as he removed the golden ring from his finger and tossed it into his pocket while he turned to leave her presence.

"And one more thing, change that cheap cologne of yours. I can't take any more of it." Charlotte shrieked with an expression as if his body reeked of cow's dung.

Liam was a worker in this company, Charm international, which dealt with gas, exports, and hospitality. He worked in the planning department as a clerk who ran from office to office to get the necessary signatures, approvals and rectifications when necessary.

Charlotte was the Acting Chief Operations Officer and she held this position with great pride despite how little she contributed to the company and her incessant harsh criticism on the entire staff.

As Liam stepped back into his office in the planning department where the other four workers who shared this office were, he was bombarded with a thousand expressions of concern on their faces and their many words which were inaudible to his disconcerted body.

"Were you fired?" A lady whose pretty accent was the loudest he heard as soon as his sense organs got back to work asked as she brought her face closer to his' in the chair where he sat with dumbness and numbness.

"Did she ask you to re-do it? Are we all fired?" Another guy in his mid-twenties who spoke more like a woman than a man and was dressed in a polka dot shirt said to the others while standing at his corner of the office.

"Ohhh, no! She fired us all, didn't she?" Another man said hastily with a breaking voice and a heavy heart about to break into tears. He had a bulging tummy, like he'd been filled with a dozen drums of rum and could still accommodate more in his swollen cheeks.

"eerrrrmmm… no!" A flustered Liam replied under this breath while he raised his head up. The whole room went silent. They needed to pay attention to whatever he had to say as if their lives depended on it.

"No?" They all echoed with different expressions ranging from fear, worry and an over hypertensive gaze fixed on his face.

"None of us are losing our jobs." Liam added as he looked at all their faces and saw the gloom begin to fade from them all.

"Well, maybe not today, but who knows what it could be tomorrow?" The man in the polka dot shirt said with zero optimism and his hands sideway up in the air.

"Come on, Cillian. Be optimistic here for a minute. We still have the day, and we're halfway through it." Jerry, the man who could otherwise be labelled as pregnant replied assertively while looking around the room.

"Fucking tyrant she is. I can't possible imagine her with anyone." Ava, the only female in the office said with less apprehension in her voice now.

"No shit. She'd end up with some Napoleon with one testicle or some sicko who lives in Greece with drugs as kids. Definitely not some good, innocent young man falling for such witch." Cillian added while he advanced towards his desk.

Liam, in the middle of the many words flying around, bent his head towards the ground with a little smile that appeared to have a bit of blush in it.

How could he possibly tell them that their ironies were real and that he not only loved her, but was even married to her? Was he insane to be in love with a nightmare that could only be likened to a beautiful- faced horror movie directed by the devil himself?

"Liam, are you okay? You still look shook." Ava said with her hand delicately rubbing his shoulders and a purposeful finger slipping to the bottom of his neck. It was no news that Ava had a huge crush on Liam, but he wasn't interested in her every romantic advance. He'd always seen her as a colleague whom he had great respect for and nothing more than that.

"I am… fine, Ava. Thank you." He said slowly as his face turned towards his shoulder where she'd placed her hand before he looked at her comely face.

"All right. You two lovebirds, get back to work. Our asses might just be at the stake tomorrow again." Jerry said with humour and a weird smile towards their faces.

"That's right. See you, Liam. And feel free to steal a glance from time to time. I do that, too." Ava said with an expression so charming that Cillian was irritated by in a sweet way.

Liam knew that he had no motives for Ava or her many innovative styles of flirting with him, so he replied her with a smile containing no carnal intentions.

Ava was a blue-eyed blonde with a gaze that half the men of the world would find irresistible and her sexy body shape could easily be likened to one of the Kardashians, and she dressed in a white blouse and a red skirt that was three inches away from her knee.

Liam opened the computer on his desk with his face heavily expressing the smile Ava had left on his face.
