Chapter 42: Chapter 42. Fine Line.

Pragya's POV.

I was devastated by what happened to my son. The next day, the same physician examined him and told us the only solution we have to save our son. That was a bit hard but still manageable.

"Doctor, please tell us, how is our son? How is our Dong?" I asked impatiently. The doctor answered.

"He is fine for now. If you want to save your son, you have seven days. Within these seven days, you will have to bring the antidote for the poison. This leaf is found only in one place." he stopped for a while.

"Tell us," Feng Leng shouted.

"Tell me, doctor, why not a hell, I will go and get it as long as it heals my son," I said. I was ready to do anything possible for my son's treatment.

"Well, the leaf which is used for the antidote for your child is located in the compound of Nangzheng Palace."

Both I and Leng got shocked. What is it? Should I go to the king to get the leaf? But why? Why should it always be like this? I thought I closed that chapter of my life and start anew. But, why does my past always hunts me? We saw each other. I immediately asked the doctor,

"Please, tell me some other place that I can get the leaf, doctor." I was almost pleading.

"If there was such a place, I would have told you earlier. But no, the plant grows only in that palace. I know it is not easy but I don't think it is difficult when it's compared to the life of your child." By saying this the physician left the compound. I went to my room and cried alone. But not too long after, Leng also came.

"Leng," I said the moment I saw him. I hugged and cried. I buried my head in his neck and cried for minutes. "I don't know why it has to be like this. I don't know why problems are hunting me wherever I go." I said.

"Li, you have to be strong. You have to be strong in everything more than anything else now. Li, our son will be fine. He will get the antidote and be healed, ok? I will get the antidote for our son," he said. But I refused. I know if Zheng found him, he would kill him.

"No, no, no, you won't go there. If the king found you, he will kill you. He will kill you and I can't lose you, Leng. I can't bear the sorrow. So, please, don't go. You stay with our son and mother. I will go and get the remedy." I said.

"Li, that is impossible. If you find you..." I didn't let him finish what he started.

"Leng, nothing will happen. My husband and my son are my priorities right now. I won't forsake what I have over here. Besides, my love for you won't let me see someone. Trust me, will you? Everything will be normal. We will be happy once again. Just allow me to get those leaves for my son, will you?" I said.

He trusted me and allowed me to get the remedy for our son. And I was sure that I wouldn't put my love for my husband on the table for negotiation. But fate had something different in store for me. The next day early in the morning I left for Qin. The state I abandon ten years ago.

After two tired full days, I arrived in Qin State. The biggest western city. I remembered how my life started in this place. I was in my wedding sari, a bridal Aura... Emitted from me. Then the king's favorite concubine and a war general of the Qin State. It all flashed in my memory. I was too innocent. I went to the place where the plant was located but I saw imperial soldiers who covered my face, in case they notice me. I bravely went to them and asked,

"I want some from that plant," I asked.

"It is forbidden. Unless you are allowed by the king, you can't have them," one of the soldiers said. I was annoyed. Why is everything pushing me to Zheng? This is annoying. I wished I had a sword. But sadly I didn't have one. So I had to go to the palace first. I had a huge fight inside me about going and not going to Zheng. But when I thought about my son for a jiffy, I decided to go to Zheng suppressing my pride and ego. It is for my son after all. For a second, I thought what if it was Zheng who was behind all this? But I didn't entertain it. No matter how cruel he is, he won't do such a thing to a child because he knows a child's pain better than anyone else.

I went to the palace I used to live. I went to the hall where I first fall in. There was no one. It was barren like an abandoned place. The throne was empty. But suddenly I heard a voice. "Lady Pragya, I hope you haven't forgotten how to greet me," it was a familiar voice. Yes, Zheng. But I have no idea where he was talking and seeing me. But I bowed and greeted the throne imagining he was sitting over there.

"You haven't changed, even after giving birth. You may raise," he said.

I raised and stand properly. I saw him coming from the right corner to the throne. He sat gracefully and asked me, "what do you want? Why are you here?" he said, sarcastically. I controlled my anger and showed a fake smile.

"My son has been poisoned. The antidote for that specific poison is found only in this state. So I kindly ask your majesty to give me that antidote," I tried my best to be polite.

"No worries, Lady, Pragya, I will give you the medicine..." I was amazed by his generosity. I knew that a father can't take it when it comes to his son.

"... But..." my smile fed away with this word. "... But under one condition," he asked.

"A condition? Like what?" I said, Perplexed.

"I will give you the remedy for your son. But you have to pay me back like you used to do in your previous world," he said.

"What kind of payment do you want from me?" I asked again. Praying not to be the one I was thinking.

"You will be my concubine like before. You have to live with me leaving your husband and your life in Yan," he stated. I was annoyed by his condition. I landed on a fine line between motherhood and wifehood. I had to choose between being the best mother or being the best wife. I got tensed.
