Chapter 2: Buying a Headset

Behind the college, gym stood a boy timidly looking onwards at the three Jocks in front of him.

Jay was your average eighteen-year-old that had just gotten out of his dark and gloomy stage. He wasn't quite tall. About 73 inches in height but nevertheless had a handsome face that compensated. His skinny arms and legs severely undermined his general appearance. The skin on his body was pale, looking as if it was deprived of all nutrients, but the skin beyond his short sleeve was tanned.

He was the type of person you would expect to stay indoors and game or spend time on the hub.

Jay was now at the point in life where he strived for action and excitement to be part of his daily life.

Just as he started thinking about what to do after all this, he was woken from his daydream.

"Hey, you hear me?" Jake said in his forcefully deepened voice. His buddies were all reeking of body odor from their football practice.

"Yea! Yea!" Jay nodded his head frantically and slipped a finger inside his shoe, and took out a crinkled hundred-dollar bill. His face was still full of smiles, seemingly unfazed by what was happening to him.

"What's this" Jake spoke as he waved around the bill after snatching it from Jay.

'It's a hundred dollar bill, kind sir.'

"It's a fucking hundred billy, you fucking dumbass. Why? Have you never seen one after spending so much of your daddy's money on that whore?" Jake spoke, but after realizing what he had just said, he coved his mouth in a shocked and expected motion. 'Shit, my thought bubble got fucked up...'

"What did you just say?" Jake asked in a low growl. His face was morphing into a mask of pure anger as he processed Jay's words.

"Ah! Ah! I said you were a very smart and handsome, generous young man and had a very lovely girlfriend." Jay spat out his words rapidly, making sure Jake was able to hear all of him.

Jay was scratching his sweating head and watched Jake make his next move.

"Hand me the rest," Jake spoke with a glare. Then raised his fist above his head.

"I-I don't have it..." Jay awkwardly chuckled, a smile still on his face.

"Whoa! Whoa! Calm down!" Jay shouted when he noticed Jake was about to bring his fist down on him with full force. "What I meant to say was I don't have it on my hands, haha." Jay nodded his head as if everything had made seance.

"Don't fucking play around with me, Jay." Jake glared at Jay and then grabbed him by the collar.

"Okay, okay, jeez," Jay mumbled with his hands raised into the air, signaling surrender. "It's in my front boxer pocket. You can get it but make sure not to touch my long willy slongker." Jay chuckled weakly at this own joke, but obviously, suck a joke wasn't taken too well by Jake.

"Oof!" Jay suddenly felt a strong impact on his stomach which caused him to kneel on the ground. "Oh c'mon, you fucking fag*ets, you really want the money that badly?" Jay cursed under his roughing breath.

"Cough it up," Jake said, crouching beside Jay with his hands open.

"Cough* Cough*" Jay we used while holding onto his stomach. Then, noticing the stares, he looked up. "Oh… I thought you meant that literally. How silly of me."

Then reaching down into his black jeans, he started to fumble with his hand and took out a few folds of cash from who knows where it came from.

"I was sweating, so it does smell a bit."

Jake smiled at him one last time, but of course not before giving Jay one last punch to the cheek.

Then finally, after Jake's group left the area, Jay stood up and wiped speeding lives with his sleeve.

"Fuck!" Jay cursed as he bashed a nearby trash bin with his foot, using all his might to do so. "That was a week worth of spicy chicken down the drain!"

But as Jay's physical endurance wasn't on par with others, he quickly stopped and held onto his aching foot.

"Well, I guess on the bright side, I still have enough to buy a headset for New Arkfield," Jay said to himself, then took out a few hundred bills from his bottom crack and took a sniff. "Still smells like money."

Laughing to himself, Jay quickly ran towards the nearest hardware store in the city.

Just outside, the campus was filled with a frenzy of activity and defending noise from the motor vehicles. Stepping into the hot concrete of the street, Jay moved past the cars and people.

The intense rays of sunlight reflecting from the giant window panels of tall buildings only increased the humidity in the vicinity.

Inside the hardware store, a male attendant welcomed Jay inside.

"Hello, what can we get going for you today?"

"Ugh... a headset and the game New Arkfield that would be all."

"Ah, the game Arkfield." The attendant smiled. "It's been quite the popular game, so would you like to buy the in-game starter pack?"

Arkfield was a game where real-life currency would be taken into account as an in-game currency. A game that the rich would be better off playing, but that didn't mean regular people won't be able to touch a headset.

In fact, poorer people were more likely to send money to buy a headset. Since the game relied on real-life currency, people had the opportunity to strick rich.

Though, of course, Jay had no idea about the real-life currency. He just wanted to have fun.

"Ah...!" Jay brought up fis fist down to his other palm in understanding. "You're trying to scam me right now, right?"

From what he remembered, buying in-game items with real money was a real waste of money. He also heard how free to play the game was.

"Hmmm?" The attendant raised his eyebrows at Jay's absurd statement. He didn't even get into detail about what he had to offer. "I don't know what you're talking about. I only woke here."

"Not this time, buddy." Jay laughed and patted the attendant on the back. "I've got more important stuff to spend my money on, like spicy chicken strips. So just get me the headset."

"Understood..." The attendant nodded and quickly made his way to the storage room. He wasn't getting paid enough to force someone like Jay to buy their products.

That will be $850. $750 for the headset." The attendant said, then received the money from Jay.

"Alright, have a jolly day," Jay said, then took the box from the attendant and immediately headed out the door.

'Now where should I buy my chicken?' Jay thought to himself. The official launch of New Arcfiled day was in about a few hours, so he needed to stuff his face if he was going to eat.

But just then, Jay's joyful face turned stern.

"What are you doing here, mom?" Jay forced a smile upon his face and hid the box behind his back
