Chapter 71: It hurts

"Alpha, what do we do?"

I never thought there'd come a day where I would have to say this to the people who I've protected for years. But I couldn't guard them today, and that hurt a part of me. We were taken off guard, ambushed and now most of our hard work has been reduced to rubbish. I feel like such a failure. 

How could I have let this happen? I know if I said this out loud, people like Noelle will tell me that it is not my fault. And in a way, I know that they're right. It's not my fault. How could I have possibly predicted a herd of brainless being accompanied by two psycjos? I couldn't have. Therefore, it was out of my control. 

Yet, I can't shake the feeling away. 

I heaved deeply, reeling my composure back. This news is going to break them, but I see no other way.

'The only thing we can do, is pull out the boats and cars, and go our separate ways.'
