Chapter 5: CUPCAKE FLASHBACK THREE
That day Akira was taken to the hospital by the school doctor and his homeroom teacher. The situation was very sad. Kitaro Eiji was very cruel to him. Fortunately the doctors at the hospital were very quick on treating and took good care of Akira. Otherwise he could die.
His life was still in danger. Akira had not passed his critical period. He was still unconscious for four days. Kitaro Eiji's punches and kicks broke several of his ribs. He also suffered a concussion from falling heavily while he was unconscious. And it turned out that Akira was suffering from malnutrition, although it was not severe but it greatly affected his recovery. The doctor said that Akira should be treated for some time until he was completely healthy.
Hiro and the Yoshikawa family continuously visited Akira. They took turns coming there and accompanying Ayumi, Akira's mother.
Hiro regretted this incident. How could Kitaro Eiji be so heartless. And he also regretted, that afternoon he should have gone home with Akira and protected him from Kitaro Eiji's. He hoped and prayed that Akira would recover quickly and be healthy. He's gonna make sure that cruel boy pay for what he did to Akira. Kitaro Eiji would pay for it!
In the morning, on the fifth day, Akira woke up from his long sleep. Thank God that day was Hiro's turn to take care of Akira.
"Akira. You're awake! Thank God. We were all very worried to find you unconscious for five days. Akira. I'm sorry. If I had gone home with you then this wouldn't have happened. I'm sorry, Akira."
" Hiro.. "
Akira could only stare at Hiro. He wasn't fully aware yet. Akira closed his eyes again. Hiro panicked. He pressed the emergency bell to call the nurse on duty. A nurse immediately barged in.
" Nurse. He just woke up. But he closed his eyes again. Is he all right, nurse? He won't die, will he?"
Hiro saw the nurse immediately examined Akira carefully. Then the nurse smiled at Hiro.
"Yoshikawa kun. Calm down. Kaneshiro kun will be fine. He just woke up so he can't talk much. He still has to take some rest. Be patient maybe after he rests, Kaneshiro kun will be able to talk to you. You haven't come home from yesterday, have you? You also have to take some rest, your best friend will be fine. Trust me. He's past his critical period. The doctor will come to check on him soon."
Not long after, the doctor came to examine Akira and explained the situation to Akira's mother. Hiro also listened. His heart was relieved after listening to the doctor's explanation. As the nurse said earlier, Akira had already passed his critical period. He's safe. His friend was safe. Hiro was crying.
" Hiro kun .. why are you crying ? " asked Kaneshiro Ayumi .
"It's okay. I'm just glad Akira survived, Ayumi san. And if I hadn't left him that day this definitely wouldn't have happened." said Hiro.
" Hiro kun. Don't regret for what has happened. And don't blame yourself. It's not good. It has become Akira's destiny. I understand that not everyone can accept Akira. I want to thank you and your family. Thank you for being a friend to Akira. Thank you for treating Akira well. " Kaneshiro Ayumi held his hand.
"Why do you say that, Ayumi-san?"
"Let's talk outside. Let Akira sleep."
Hiro was confused about what was going on. Why did Akira's mother suddenly want to talk to him in private. They sat in the hospital cafeteria.
"Hiro kun. Would you like some coffee?" Akira's mother asked.
"Just let me, Ayumi-san."
Then he rushed to buy two cups of coffee. One for him and one for Ayumi san. And she took a sip of her coffee.
"Hiro kun. For these past few days I've been trying to contact my parents in Tokyo to ask for help. At first my father didn't want to take my calls so I talked to my mother. I told her about my situation here, especially about Akira. That we really need their help to protect Akira. It seems like my mother takes pity on me and she cares about our situation. Since our family's motto is help the weak and fight the strong and maybe my mother persuaded my father to meet and accept us. Last night my dad called me and forgave me. He said he would go to see Akira here. my father promised to help us. He will take us to Tokyo. Akira and I will return to Tokyo for Akira's safety. I can no longer allow Akira to be cruelly treated by his friend. I won't sue Kitaro Eiji, he's still young. I guess he just didn't know yet the difference between good and bad. So I decided it was better for Akira to stay away from him. I can't imagine if something like this happened again. We'd better move to Tokyo. I know you guys are good friends but I have to protect Akira. Can you understand, Hiro kun? "
"Well if that's your decision I definitely agreed for Akira's safety. And I thought I could visit Akira sometime in Tokyo. Actually I'm very relieved to hear this. Because frankly I'm worried if Akira still stays in school here. Then what about Akira's scholarship?"
"I don't need to think about it anymore. My father said he will help us. And he will send Akira to college. Arigatou, Hiro kun."
" Doitashimasta, Ayumi san. "
Akira's grandfather came with three big tall men, five minutes after Hiro and Akira's mother returned from the cafeteria. He was wearing a high quality silk kimono in dark gray with a dragon pattern and flowers in black and silver color. From the kimono he wore, it showed that he was a very rich and powerful person.
Kaneshiro Shinobu even though he was an old man, he had a tall, big and stocky stature, there was a tattoo behind his ear, far from Hiro's expectation. He imagined that Akira's grandfather was a very old and weak person. But this old man in front of him was very different. It was the first time Hiro had seen such a charismatic old man.
The aura emitted by Kaneshiro Shinobu was an aura of undeniable power. The aura of a leader. Hiro imagined that everyone around Kaneshiro Shinobu would obey his every command. Actually Hiro was a bit afraid of the old man and he didn't know why. But part of his heart admired him.
"Father... I'm sorry." Kaneshiro Ayumi immediately knelt down respectfully in front of his father.
Hiro was a bit confused to notice that Kaneshiro Ayumi's way of apologizing to his father was very traditional. Looks like they came from a conservative family, Hiro thought.
" Stand up, Ayumi. Where is my grandson?" His voice was deep and husky.
"Ah, his voice can make goosebumps." thought Hiro.
The three of them entered the treatment room where Akira was sleeping. The other three men were still waiting outside. Hiro continued to pay attention to Akira's grandfather. He was truly bewitched. Not meaning anything, Hiro was just amazed to see him. The grandfather saw him and smiled, saying nothing. Hiro immediately bowed to him respectfully.
"I'm sorry for being rude. I'm Yoshikawa Hiro, Kaneshiro san."
"Nice to meet you, Yoshikawa-kun. You are a good friend of my grandson, aren't you?" asked the grandfather.
"That's right, Kaneshiro-san."
Suddenly Akira's grandfather bowed respectfully to Hiro followed by Kaneshiro Ayumi. They both bowed before him.
"Thank you for taking care of and helping my grandson."
"Wow this old man bowed to me." he thought.
"I'm just doing my job as a friend, Kaneshiro San." he said.
"I know. You are a good boy. Feel free to come to me if you and your family run into trouble."
"Hai, Kaneshiro san." He once again bowed respectfully to Akira's grandfather.
Akira woke up from his sleep. He opened his eyes. He looked at his grandfather. He recognized the old man. Her mother always showed him a picture of his grandfather.
"Grandfather?" he said.
"Yes, Akira I am your grandfather."
"I'm sorry Grandfather, I can't pay my respects to you at this time."
"Never mind. You stay lying there. Get some rest. I'm sorry I just could come today to see you." said his grandfather while patting Akira's head.
When Akira's grandfather patted Akira's head, his kimono sleeve lifted slightly, Hiro could see there's also a tattoo on his wrist.
"Ayumi, I promise I won't make any action with the boy or his family. I will leave it to you. Alright, Ayumi I'll go. I still have some work to do. I left one of my employees here to take care of you. I'll be back to pick you up. You guys. Let me know when Akira is able to get out of the hospital. I'll go first."
Kaneshiro Ayumi nodded at his father. Then the old man left the hospital with his two bodyguards.
