Chapter 2: Back Home

As Tiffany drives home she is unable to get Becky off her mind, her fingers gripping the steering wheel tightly. Every moment, every glance, was replayed in her head, each frame inscribed into her memory. She felt as if time had slowed down, and she couldn't get away from the odd, twisting sensation in her stomach.

Tiffany's surprise reveals itself as she approaches the entrance gate of her apartment complex. In the parking lot, Gia, her girlfriend, appeared both worried and impatient. Tiffany was overcome with guilt, and she couldn't help but wonder if Gia had witnessed or heard something. Did she discover her growing connection with Becky?

Tiffany's heart was beating as she parked and stepped out of the car. The tension in the air became palpable when Gia's eyes met hers. Tiffany made an effort to collect her thoughts and words, but they whirled like a whirlwind in her mind.

Tiffany's voice trembled as she spoke to Gia, "What are you doing here?"

Gia's expression changed from concern to hurt. I thought I'd surprise you and go for a walk, her voice tinged with sadness. Rather than that, I ended up waiting for you for hours. "Sorry, I got caught up with some schoolwork in the library.

Tiffany: Thinking, I am not in the mood for anything with that puzzled look on her face.

Gia: "Is everything okay?

Tiffany: "Yeah, just had a long day at school. I just want to relax.

Gia: "Okay babe whatever you say but you seem to be here physically and mentally somewhere else.

Both Gia and Tiffany start walking to the apartment Gia can't stop talking but it seems that Tiffany is wandering off somewhere else. As they approach their apartment Gia is the first one to go in. She walks straight to the kitchen to see the pile of dishes in the sink and her son Matthew sitting in the living room playing video games. You can see Gia's face get serious and about to go off on her son.

Tiffany: "Babe' am going for a walk'.

Gia: "Okay

As soon as Tiffany starts walking out she can hear Gia going off on Matthew. Gia, I know you made this mess. I left the house clean before I left to work and we are just getting back now. You've been here all day, why didn't you pick up after yourself?

Tiffany walks away from the apartment with a feeling of relief when the sound of the argument fades away. A lot of things cross her mind and Becky is one of them.

Tiffany thought: why didn't I ask for her number with this frustrated look on her face?

The sun is starting to set, and it's getting cold, Tiffany is feeling tired and sleepy. She starts to walk back towards the apartment complex suddenly the sound of a bicycle moving fast. Tiffany turns to see who it is to her surprise, it's Matthew. She tries to stop him and find out where he's going but he's moving to fast. She starts walking fast towards the apartment to find out exactly what happened. She starts to approach the stairs when she hears the sound of someone crying. She realizes it's Gia.

Tiffany: "What happened? I saw Matthew zoom right past me on his bike.

Gia: "Yeah, he's going to go hang out with some friends. He'll be back later.

Tiffany: "Oh, okay. Then why are you crying?

Gia: "I don't know, am going to go relax. Dinner is on the stove.

Tiffany woke up the next morning to hear Gia's raised voice and Matthew's retorts echoing through the apartment. She groaned internally due to being annoyed. She whispered, 'Not again,' rubbing the sleep from her eyes.

Tiffany quickly stepped out of bed and quickly dressed, eager to escape the tense atmosphere. Despite Gia's claims that the issue had been handled the day before, she couldn't understand why Gia and Matthew seemed to always clash.

Gia: Good morning babe, are you hungry?

Tiffany: not really

Their argument decreased in volume as she moved from the bedroom to the living room. Tiffany exhaled a sigh of relief, thankful for the break from the chaos that had become too common.

She stood in the doorway and observed Gia and Matthew in tense silence, their faces flushed and their expressions hardened.

Matthew's hands were tightly held at his sides, while Gia's arms crossed over her chest with a sense of protection.

Tiffany hesitated for a moment, unsure whether to intervene or remain silent. Before she could make a decision, Gia's gaze met hers, anger turning into weariness and sadness.

Gia: Well I feel like having an egg McMuffin. What do you think? I will pay for it if you pick it up for us.

Tiffany: really! After waking me up with your arguments you still want me to go and pick up breakfast for you both?

Gia: Yes, please

Tiffany: Okay, but next time it's your turn.

Gia: Yeah, sure

Tiffany starts to walk out of the apartment with this irritating look on her face. Why is it that I always have to be the one to go get the food I don't even get to rest. As she started driving her mind started to wonder if her relationship with Gia was going anywhere. It's always the arguing over dumb stuff, Matthew doesn't like me and always finds a way to ruin the day for me and his Mother. Do I still love Gia?
