Chapter 14: Chapter Thirteen

Caitlin had unpacked her things and tidied the new home. She also gave Sultan a nice hot bath and let him play in the water with his rubber ducks for a while before letting him out and getting him dressed.

She had a hot, soothing bath and made a nice hot soup for them to warm up. Then she cooked some spicy rice and roast chicken and they ate to their fill. Sultan didn't like spicy food, so she made him cheese macaroni instead.

It wasn't long after he ate that he fell asleep on the sofa, cuddling his blue teddy bear with a black bow tie. She carried him into his room to have a good rest while she did the rest of the work. The house had two bedrooms and each bedroom had its own bathroom. The second bedroom was quite small compared to the first. That would be the guest room, if she'd ever have any guests.

Caitlin instantly fell in love with the house. Fate had never been this kind to her. The kitchen was so big and beautiful and the house was already furnished for them. Everything was just perfect. The view from the windows was so beautiful and refreshing. It was a quiet and serene neighborhood.

After unpacking, decorating and cleaning, she retired to her room to rest as well. It was such a long journey the previous night and she deserved a good sleep.

Kane sat in his study, thinking about what to do next. He had no record of Caitlin. All he had was her details as a worker in HEO and nothing more. He didn't give up though, he wouldn't leave any stone unturned.

While he searched for clues on what to do, he remembered that she was given a job in HEO through a connection. There was a consideration letter he received from a certain person that he couldn't remember. Now he had to search for the letter. He searched the entire shelf in his study. It was a long search, but he was determined to find it.

He searched every page of every file. He knew he hadn't thrown the letter away. He had just slipped it into a file, and now he had to find the file. So much for his carelessness. He should've known it would come in handy someday. He drank a cup of strong coffee to stay awake as he searched all night. Darian offered to help him, but Kane felt guilty for keeping him awake for so long and urged him to have some rest.

"But sir….i can't let you do this alone."

"Don't worry about me. Go get some sleep. I'll be fine. This is my problem, not yours. I should face it alone."

Darian looked at him for a while and reluctantly agreed.

Kane searched every file, every letter in the file and every word in the letters. He must find out who had helped Caitlin to get a job in his company earlier.

He went on until around three am, then he found the file beneath the shelf, covered in dust. He had been looking at the wrong places for several hours, when all he had to do was look under the shelf. He placed it on the table and quickly opened it. There it was! The letter even had the owner's address and contact details. Kane couldn't help but smile at his victory. He wanted to call immediately, then he hesitated. It was midnight and the owner would be asleep. He just had to exercise a little patience and wait until dawn.

He ended up sleeping in his study that night. He had only three more hours to rest, so there was no point in getting too comfortable anyway.

The next day, he woke up quite early despite the time he had slept and got ready to leave. Darian made him a cup of hot coffee.

"You're leaving this early?"

"Yes, I have to go now. I can't afford to lose the little piece of information I just found."

"Alright….but eat something at least before going. You didn't eat dinner last night and you were awake for hours."

"No… I'm not hungry. I'll be fine. I won't rest until I find Caitlin's whereabouts."

Darian was shocked at his sudden determination. Kane had always been a man of his words quite alright, but he was just too determined this time.

"Alright….I can't seem to stop you. I wish you'd let me come along but you can call me if you need me."

"I need you to do some paperwork in the office though."

Darian sighed. Paper work meant hours of work without rest.

"Alright." he sighed.

Kane put on his suit and left with the letter. As he went down the stairs and walked out of his mansion, his servants stopped to bow and greet him but he ignored them. He had more important things to take care of.

He got into his car and put the address he found in his GPS. It was a long ride ahead of him. Grace lived in Middleton, but came to Allensouth to work in one of the big hospitals there. She was a professional obstetrician and was very good in her field, so she was one of the most recommended doctors around. This made her a very busy woman. She was also unstable, always traveling from one city to the other. Her family only saw her once in a while.

She had only one child, a girl who was turning twelve years of age that year. Her husband was a rich business man, but he had time for their daughter, unlike his wife but

Grace usually found ways to keep in touch with her family. They had video calls every single day and would talk about work and daily activities.

The address on the letter was a hotel in Allensouth, which was one of her favorite places to lodge whenever she came to the city. She owned a penthouse in the hotel and always stayed there.

Kane started the long ride to Hadley Hotels and suite. It was a five star hotel in the city and definitely a very expensive place to lodge. Kane rode with all determination and his eyes never left the road for a second. As he rode, he thought about the things that had happened these last few months. He couldn't stop thinking about the times he spent with Sultan or when he found out that Caitlin had a child for him. The shock he felt at that moment was unforgettable.

After an hour and thirty minutes ride, he arrived at the hotel. When the receptionist realized who he was, he quickly attended to him without wasting a minute.

"I'm looking for Mrs Grace Livingston." he said.

"Of course. I'll take you to her."

Kane was taken to her penthouse. She was writing something in a file when the receptionist ushered him in. She looked up and was shocked at who she saw.

"Hello, Mrs Grace." he said and she could only stare, speechless.

They both sat at a table facing each other. A butler served them wine while they talked.

"I'm quite surprised to see you….it's an unexpected visit."

"I'm actually here for something very important."

"What is it then?" Grace asked, sipping from her glass of wine.

"It's about Miss Caitlin."

She stopped in her tracks and put down the glass.

"What about her?"

"I'm sure you're well acquainted with her, so you must know her whereabouts."

"I don't know what you're talking about."

"Of course you do." he frowned.

"Well, we aren't close to that extent."

Kane took out the consideration letter and shifted it to her.

"You wrote this letter for Miss Caitlin to get a job, didn't you?"

She looked at the letter for a while and gave up.

'Unbelievable! He had evidence already?!' Grace thought.

"Well, she needed my help and I just had to because of her condition at that time. She had a child and was running low on money."

"I found out recently that she moved out. No one knows where. I'm sure she told you because she trusted you. Please tell me where she is. I need to know."

"I'm sorry I can't help you. I promised Caitlin not to tell anyone where she had gone to."

"Please, you have to help me."

"But why do you need her location? You have no right over her or her child after what you did to her."

"I…..I know. But you don't understand. I care about my son…I also care a lot about Caitlin and I want her to forgive me for what I did to her. I did wrong to her and I'm being punished for it. Everyone deserves a second chance, don't they?"

Grace knew he was right. He had really humbled himself and worked so hard to make Caitlin forgive him. She sighed and thought for a while.

"Alright. I'll help you."

She told him the city she moved to and the town, but not her home address.

"You'll have to find her home address yourself. That's all I can help you with."

Kane was shocked to see how far she had gone to stay away from him. Lonesprings was a far city, but he was determined to find her. He thanked grace and left and now he had to leave for lonesprings.
