Chapter 2: Chapter 2 Colleagues

The Los Angeles Police Department has 21 districts, and the 21 districts are further divided into 4 command areas, called sub-bureaus.

Central Branch, Southern Branch, Western Branch, valley Branch.

In addition, there are two additional precincts, the Detective Bureau and the Special Operations Bureau.

The Police Detective Bureau is responsible for investigating criminal cases, which is somewhat similar to the Criminal Investigation Detachment of the Municipal Public Security Bureau in China, except that the Police Detective Bureau is more independent.

Luke is a detective within the Detective Bureau, Robbery-Murder Division.

Commonly known as the serious crime team.

  "Woooo..."

A black Harley-Davidson motorcycle drove into the police station.

Luke took off his helmet and looked at the police station building, feeling a little complicated.

The Chinese police and the Los Angeles police are completely different concepts, and the change of identity is not easy.

The Chinese police represent honor and protection, and Luke consider himself part of this group and has a strong sense of belonging to the job.

LAPD on the other hand is just a job that pays well but carries the risk of being shot.

Luke has no sense of sacrificing for the citizens of Los Angeles.

It will take him some time to fully integrate into the job.

At 8:59 in the morning, Luke stepped into the office of the 'Robbery-Murder Division' 1st Squadron.

The office is divided into five areas, office area, lounge, conference room, pantry, and captain's office.

Luke walked through the office area full of documents and walked to his desk in the southwest corner. He was very low-key, but he still caught the attention of his colleagues.

"Yeah, look who's here, as expected of a big star, he will always appear at the finale moment, not bad." A bald white man in his thirties pointed to the clock on the wall.

Luke gave him his middle finger directly.

You can be a jerk, but you can't be polite if you want to stay in the LAPD.

  "Crack..."

The door of the captain's office opened, and a middle-aged white woman wearing black-rimmed glasses came out with a stack of documents in her right arm, "Everyone, go to the conference room for a meeting."

Susan, The Robbery-Murder Division's First Squadron Captain.

Luke has never seen her smile ever since he crossed to the Los Angeles Police Department, she's always with a poker face.

Luke doesn't like her very much, which may be one of the few things in common between Luke and the rest of the team.

Luke was the last to enter the conference room, he sat at the end of the conference table.

Susan put the document on the conference table and pulled over to the whiteboard next to it, with the words 'Taser Robbery' written on it.

"Everyone, since February 18, there have been two robberies in Los Angeles, both on Friday night, with Taser guns.

The two cases have many similarities, and it is very likely that it's the same person who committed the crime.

Deputy Team Vincent, tell us about the progress of the case investigation."

A tugging silver-haired old man responded, "The two victims are both young white women with long blond hair and a height of about 170.

Both suffered electric shocks from behind. , It can be basically determined that the suspect used a Taser, but no confetti was found at the scene..."

The Taser has no bullets, it is used to subdue the target by firing charged 'darts', and it is also a non-lethal weapon commonly used by the police.

Each time the Taser fires a pneumatic clip, more than 40 multicolored small scraps of paper will be shot out. The serial number of the gun is printed on it, and the source of the gun can be found through the scraps of paper.

"Except for the similarity in appearance, no intersection between the two victims has been found. According to the victim's description, the suspect is likely to be a male with a hat on his head.

Because of the low lights at night, the looks of the suspect could not be seen clearly..."

The silver-haired old man Vincent talked eloquently. He is in his sixties and can continue to work thanks to the LAPD's extension system.

He may be the oldest police officer in the Detective Department or even in the whole of Los Angeles, and has extensive experience in scene investigation, but don't expect him to hunt down suspects.

"The crime scene is relatively remote. The female victim was naked when she was found, and all the cash, accessories and clothes on her body had been looted, but she was not violated..."

Luke has not yet adapted to the identity of the Los Angeles police, and is often lazy.

But hearing the description of the case, out of professional habit, he still couldn't help thinking about the case.

In the past, Luke has also been involved in the investigation of many robberies.

Generally speaking, robbery usually has a clear purpose, either robbing money or robbing accessories.

But in this case, the suspect's purpose is not clear.

He took the money, all the valuables and just ran away, why did he take off the victim's clothes?

It's very unprofessional and increases the risk of being caught.

  Very contradictory.

After Vincent's deputy team finished talking, he directly arranged tasks for the team members.

Luke was assigned to check the surveillance records , his least favorite job.

I don't know if it was a psychological effect, but Luke felt that Captain Susan's face became even more colder than usual, she said with a hint of London accent:

"Additionally, no one is allowed to disclose the details of the case to the media, they already know more then enough.I don't want to see any more informations about the case on the news, understand?"

  "Yes, captain."

  ...

Luke took a cup of coffee and sat down at his desk and started watching the surveillance records.

Investigation and monitoring is a common investigation method used by the Chinese criminal police.

The number of cameras in the United States is much less than that in China, and it is a bit of a nonsense to talk about the per capital land area of the same country.

Americans pay more attention to privacy, and there are not many cameras for the purpose of monitoring public safety, but more are private cameras, which brings certain difficulties to the investigation.

This tried-and-true method of investigation in China does not work very well in Los Angeles.

There were two robberies in total, both on Friday nights, and Luke checked the surveillance time between 8:00 p.m. and 12:00 p.m.

As for why the suspect chose to commit the crime on Friday, Luke feels that it may have something to do with the American salary system.

Many companies in the United States adopt a weekly salary system or a biweekly new system, and wages are generally paid on Friday afternoon.

Of course, this is just his guess, and there is no relevant evidence.

In the morning, Luke has been checking surveillance video, drank three cups of coffee, gone to the toilet twice, and smoked two cigarettes.

At noon, he ate a beef burger, a french fries, a fried chicken leg, and a grilled chicken wing.

In the afternoon, he continued checking the monitoring, and still found no valuable clues aside from the pantothenic acid in the eyes and the numbness of the buttocks.

At 6.30, it's time to get off work.

Luke stood up, moved around, and packed up to leave.

The bald white man standing by the printer looked at Luke and smiled, "You're better than my alarm clock? Do you like this new nickname?"

Luke winked, "Alarm clock? Want to put me by your bedside? Your wife will definitely move on."

The bald white man said contemptuously, "Asshole."

"Don't always praise me, I'll be proud. Guys, see you tomorrow." Luke said then left the office. .

The other team members all looked at the joke with different expressions, some with envy and contempt, but none of them left, it is common sense to them to work overtime when faced with such difficult cases.

The silver-haired old man spread his hands, a little helpless, "The robber may commit another crime the day after tomorrow, but this kid doesn't give a shit. Why is this irresponsible kid is still staying in the 'robbery-murder division'? does he think it's a nursing home?"

  "Haha..." Colleagues burst into laughter.

"He's always been a jerk, but he used to be more attentive in investigating cases." The white man pointed to his bald head. "The person has changed since the head injury. Could it be due to some 'post-traumatic stress disorder'?"

The silver-haired old man sighed softly, he spread his hands, "OK, let the captain worry about it. I'm just a deputy."
