Chapter 6: Chapter Five

I named them June, Jane and James!

What was that supposed to mean? There were three of them? Eve... had a brother and a sister? She actually had siblings? Why didn't her mother tell her? Did something happen to them? Were they alive? Where are they? She wished her mother was alive and here with her. Maybe then, she would have her answers to these questions.

Even if by some miracle, she had survived and was here with her, what would she tell her? That she had been reading her journal?

No, she wouldn't be able to tell her. But she needed to know if all that was true.

"Eve?" she heard a knock on her door before hearing a familiar voice. Alex.

Alex was her Grandma's assistant. Grandma Martha owned most of the buildings and shops in Melas; And Alex helped manage them. He lived in the mansion with us and had been a very good friend to Eve; Kathy too.

Kathy even moved to Melas, living with her grandpa just so she could be there for Eve. It was nice of them. She really needed her friends. But sometimes, she wanted people to stop looking at her with pity.

"Eve? Are you safe?"

By safe he meant decent. Ever since the day he had barged into Eve's room and accidentally saw her in her birthday suit (although she had her towel wrapped around her body), he would always ask that silly question before coming in.

"Yeah. Come in." Eve smiled.

He enters and sits on her bed close to her, looking tired. Though he still looked cute. But not as cute as Mr C&C. Till date, Mr C&C remains the cutest guy she had ever seen.

"Have you noticed anything strange about Mrs Martha?"

"Hello Alex. Good to see you too."

"Have you noticed anything strange about Mrs Martha?" He completely ignored my greeting and asked again.

"No. What's the matter?" Eve responded ignoring the fact that he had shoved her greeting under the bed. He was lucky she was not totally in a bad mood.

"Nothing. She just acts differently."

"She just lost her only child. You don't expect her to act like nothing's happened." something about the topic made her snap at him. Her mom was still a sour topic for her.

"But you're still speaking the same way, you walk the same, and your personality hasn't changed." Alex reasoned.

"So what you mean is that Grandma's personality changed."

"Yeah. It is like she is a whole different person."

A whole different person. That reminded her of the day she had seen grandma looking young. Maybe it was not her imagination. Maybe she was not seeing things at all. But if what Alex said is true about her she seeming different, then she was different. Alex spent a lot of time with her grandma at work and he had been living with her for years.

"Grief can do that to a person." She tried to end that topic. If there was something going on, then she would rather be ignorant. Ignorance like they say was bliss. Her grandma was the only living family member she had with her. She could not afford finding something wrong.

"Yeah. Maybe"

"Do you know James Crystal?" She asked casually and he flinched.

"Do you?" she asked again. She found him suspicious.

"Where did you hear that name?" he asked her a question instead of answering hers. Eve hated that tactic.

"So you know him. Please just tell me and I won't overreact."

"I'm not worried about you blowing up. I'm worried about your safety. It's...." he contemplated on what to say. " It is.. kinda complicated."

"Then I really do have a brother and a sister out there." She realised three things then. First of all, Someone removed her memories. Secondly, she had a family somewhere out there. And lastly, fairies were real and she could be one of them. But, Mr C&C had called her a Grand witch. Maybe, it really was complicated.

"Why?" Out of the many questions in her head, that was the only one she could utter without being a total emotional wreck.

"Calm down, Eve" he tried to reach for her hands as it had already balled up to a fist. So, she shoved his away.

"Don't tell me to calm down...." she was so angry her lips trembled when I said her next words. "....tell me the truth! All of it!"

"I will. Just.... don't be mad at me, okay?" The look of hurt on his face made her feel a little guilty. After all, it was not his fault her family lied to her. But, she did not care right then. All she wanted was to know. Especially when there was a huge possibility that she had a family somewhere out there.

"I don't really know how it went. All I know is that Queen Elena, your mother needed to erase your memory. The fairy side of you was becoming unseelie. And like every fairy, you feed from magic. So she made sure you forgot about magic and left faeland with her guardian Christian."

Guardian Christian.

Her father's name was Christian Emerald. It could be a coincidence, right?

"Guardian Christian is the one you knew as your father. I know you have a lot of questions but I'm not the one to ask. Just don't be mad at me." He explained before placing his hand on hers and gave it a tight squeeze.

"So... you are saying that my dad is not my dad?" she could not stop the tears from slipping down her cheek. The father she had known was the best dad she could ever wish for. And now, she had just found out he was not her real dad. He was not her real dad. So what? He was the only father she knew.

"Come here, Eve" he wrapped his arms around her and held her close.

"Alex?" With his arms around her, she felt warm and...less distrustful.

"Yes?"

"About grandma Martha, I think she's been acting strange. I don't want you to think I am crazy but she looks.... younger every night."

"Hmmmm.... when did you start noticing this?"

"You don't think I'm crazy?"

"I just told you you're part fairy. You're not the only one saying crazy things tonight"

"I guess you're right."

"Then?" Oh! The question.

"The night she came to get me."

"Hmmmm"

"Hmmmm? Is that all you're going to say?" she pulled away from him so she could see his face.

"What do you expect me to say?"

"Anything. But not "hmmmm". You can tell me what you're planning on doing next. I mean if you think she's not the same, you're going to do something, right?"

"Yeah, maybe. I'll have to use a truth spell on her."

"So spells and witches exist?"

"Yeah and warlocks too. Y'know you're part witch. A Grand witch just like your mother and Mrs Martha." He said cautiously gauging her reaction.

"Who erased my memories?"

"Mrs Martha"
