Chapter 3: MYSTERY I

" NOT ALL HAPPINESS LAST LONG, SOME ARE JUST A LINK TO FURTHER MISERY.

SO BEWARE! THE SAME WEAPON THAT DESTROYS A MAN'S ENEMY CAN CAUSE HIS DOOM, MAN BE WISE."

"THE MOST PAINFUL PART OF BEING WEAK IS NOT BEING ABLE TO SAVE ONE's LIFE AND THAT OF THOSE YOU LOVE, NOT BEING ABLE TO STARE DEATH IN THE FACE AND SAY I'M NOT AFRAID OF YOU.

AND IN THE END, RESORTING TO AN AGE LONG LIFE OF COWARDICE."

~AMAZING DESTINY

In a magnificent ancient castle hidden in canopies of even taller trees in a dense forest, a man was communicating with what seemed to be a dragon. The man looked like an average human except that his eyes were abnormally bright and he emitted an intimidating aura, one which was easily belittled by that of the dragon though.

The dragon had a pair of human buttocks, enabling it to sit comfortably on the golden chair carved in a way that it resembled a throne.

A closer look around the castle will reveal a little town of similar buildings, the dragon seemed to be in charge of the little settlement.

The catchy thing about the settlement was that it didn't have humans in it, only young gods and a few older ones who acted as cabinet chiefs to the dragon king. This seemingly gave the settlement an aura that made an average human feel like death was staring him in the face.

After a legnthy but seemingly productive discussion, the man's eyes glowed brightly for a few seconds after which he and the dragon let out a loud maniacal laughter. The whole settlement seemed to join them as the atmosphere was crouded with creepy laughter.

After a period of long menacing laughter, some of the young gods rushed into a dark cave. As they moved in, the man with glowing eyes shouted out loud "the volcanoes must not erupt, at least not now". The cave had carvings of gods and demons in battle, it had the aura of sacred place.

In the Southern part of Zho kingdom which had fast become a city, there was an earthquake which shook the whole region.

Foundations shook endlessly without any buildings sinking in or crashing down, this continued for about thirty minutes.

Emergency agencies were evacuating the region and moving them to the other regions of the city, television stations were carrying news on evacuation instructions given by the government. The city was becoming a beehive of activities, people were running in all directions and panic was evident in the atmosphere and it wasn't helping matters.

The earthquake persisted, this time more intense and it was beginning to crack open the ground and active volcanoes were beginning to show signs of eruption.

A deep voice then rang out "ENOUGH!, Proceed to the next stage."

As he said that, the earthquake stopped instantly. Those who hadn't left the region yet celebrated feeling the ground calm beneath their feet again, they watched the volcanoes from a distance as the raging fires calmed down slowly but surely.

But not every happiness lasts long, some are just a link to further misery.

Just as they began re-tracing their homes, dark creatures sprung out of the ground throughout the vast land.

They looked like scorpions but were a giant form of them, they were dark and seemed like rocks brought out of the center of a boiling volcano. They also possessed spikes like those of porcupines but they contained dark fire, one quick look and them and one could tell the damage those could cause to anything they touch.

The hope the people had just encountered vanished before they could even grab it. The lilly hearted ones had began fainting while the stronger ones tried to find ways to escape the unknown creatures, but what a dream it was. The faster they knew death could not be cheated the better for them.

'spheew spheew' spikes were flying in the air, the creatures attacked without mercy. They weren't afraid to spray blood in the air and to soak the ground with it, the stench of blood filled the place as the creatures cleaned up every single human that remained.

The most painful part of being weak is not being able to save oneself and that of those you love.

A child of about eight years old watched on from a crack formed by the earthquake as his entire family and friends were murdered, hot tears trickled down his eyes as he struggled to stay awake. Just as he was about to give in he felt a strong hand pull him out, and that was all he could remember.

In Northern Zho, Alex and Cynthia were in Thibaut's base. Thibaut still hadn't given them an answer on what kind of power they possessed, and who they truly were and they weren't taking it from him.

Thibaut was sitting in couch ready to give Alex and Cynthia an answer, the siblings had thrown energy blasts at him all day which he had little problems with by the way.

The only problem he had was that thepower behind their energy blasts were amazingly destructive and it wouldn't be long before the take down his supposedly indestructible base.

"Go on, speak!" Cynthia was becoming inpatient, she couldn't take much blame though. It wasn't easy not knowing if you're some secret weapon needed to destroy the world someday, this was her greatest fear. She had lost her parents at a tender age and didn't want to do the same to any other kid anywhere.

" During the early stages of Earth, the gods and demons fought for rulership of the planet..." Thibaut began, " the demons were usually at the disadvantage during such wars as the supreme God was the most powerful being in existence, and moving in to battle usually sealed the war for the gods.

However, he wasn't interested in that particular war. He considered it too trivial for him to interfere.

But that wasn't the case for the demons, the supreme demon Lucifer was so much interested in the planet for reasons best known to himself that he didn't care if the war was unfair. He fought with so much motivation and single handedly slayed a thousand high ranked gods, this feat boosted the morale of the demons in the fight.

But things are not always as they seem, the gods had a hidden weapon all along, his name was Thermo. They just needed to get him powered up, he was the second strongest god but his powers were controlled by his emotions. After watching the humiliation of his fellow gods, he finally kick started and that was the doom of the demons.

Only a few survived the ugly massacre, while Lucifer escaped badly injured and hasn't shown face till this day.

However, Thermo had overstretched himself far past his limits and was almost dying. The gods tried all they could to revive him, but all efforts proved futile.

Just as they made to return home, a new batch of demon warriors ambushed them. That's when the two mightiest creatures emerged out of the blue, they shone so brightly they could blind a regular human. The woman shone like the sun and the man like the moon. They wiped out the demons in the blink of an eye making the gods bow before them.

As the gods proceeded to thank them, they ordered them to stop. They said they had limited time to live as it was tradition for protectors to die after each era, and that they should find their successors before the next mid-era or the universe will be wiped out." Thibaut finally finished, he conjured a cup of water to quench his thirst.

" So we're the decendants?" Cynthia asked still looking dazed, "yes you are" was the short response from Thibaut as he helped himself to a healthy meal he had just conjured.

Cynthia was looking relieved and excited, she turned sharply to her brother expecting him to have the same expression but she was wrong. Alex's eyes had a cold stare, he was glowing a light red and was looking obviously terrified about something.

" Alex, what's the matter?" Cynthia asked while Thibaut just looked on from a distance. Alex's eyes remained fixed on a spot for a long time before he finally moved, he paced about the room and finally spoke.

" Thibaut, you have an ancient calendar around here?" he asked. Thibaut was taken unawares by the question, but he rushed down to get it anyways. Cynthia watched her brother, he was always so collected and seeing him this way made her panic.

Thibaut was back in no time " Here it is" he quickly delivered it to Alex who quickly turned it old covers, searching earnestly for something. He hadn't searched for long when his eyes widened, shock was evident on his face. Cynthia rushed to see wat he had read and so did Thibaut who was reluctant at first.

It read 'an era is a period of time in which a present generation of gods it demons fade away for the entrance of a new one. It usually lasts about 5,000 years.'

They didn't seem to get why that statement would get Alex agitated until he spoke

" don't you guys get it? The universe is doomed. The protectors said every protector must die to make way for the new ones, and the new ones must be found before the next mid-era. Since then till now has been nearly 4,000 years which means it's past mid-era and we just found ourselves out" Alex paused to make his words sink.

" What now?" Cynthia asked with a shaky voice, but she got no reply the boys were as confused as she was.
