Chapter 1: HE NEVER CAME BACK

Daniella Collon

I stared at the huge frame which was on the wall. Six years, it's been six years since he turned his back on me, just for the sake of his business. I should have taken down this frame a long time ago, staring at our wedding picture, how we held hands, and smiled so happily.

I heaved. Today, I was gonna get a job as a housekeeper in that mansion, no matter what!. I checked my purse for any change I could use in getting a can, but my face fell flat. I was so poor that I couldn't afford to even get myself a burger. I just lived on the leftovers the customers leave at the cafe, where I recently worked.

Noah was my first love in highschool, the only man I thought I would love, and be married to for the rest of my life. But, in life, we don't always get what we bargained for.

Noah and I, started dating at a very young age. I was 14 and he was 16, our age gap didn't stop us from loving each other. Noah's parents were gamblers, while my foster parents, yeah, 'foster', my real parents or mother sold me to this old woman, who was called, Mam's lulu, when I was younger. Mama Lulu, sold children to either rich or poor people, as far as they could afford what she wanted. I was sold into the family of Mr. and Mrs. Collon.

They were very nice people, and they took good care of me. They also loved Noah, but were worried about his parents excessive gambling. They would call me into the room, whenever Noah came to visit, and tell me to stay clear of his parents, and I shouldn't have sex with Noah until I'm eighteen.

I didn't want to disappoint them, so I held on to their rule, but on my eighteenth birthday, Mr. and Mrs. Collon, died in an accident. I was so heart-broken. I couldn't eat, or sleep well for days. Noah's parents took me in, and I decided to find a job to help the family.

Noah, already started working in a convenience store, while I started babysitting. Things were good. Noah came home one day, and told me he was going to start working in a company. I was surprised, we didn't go to college, and I had no idea what his position was going to be in this company.

Now, Noah was a brilliant student, he toped all his classes, and he was always good in physics. He told me the company made cars, and they were starting up, and he was really excited to work with them.

I was really happy for Noah, but i had doubts about this company. Noah said he was going to the company the next day with his portfolio, I wasn't still convinced about this so called company, I wanted to vote against it, but, seeing how happy he was, I decided against it.

His parents urged him, saying it would bring them out of poverty. To sum it all up, Noah was scammed of all his saving, and our savings for our wedding. I felt so devastated. Noah became distant and didn't talk to me for weeks, but eventually he got over it.

I ended up funding whatever we needed for the wedding. I go married at the age of twenty, and Noah and I moved out of his parents home, and into our old, shabby, one room apartment. We were happy with the little we had, buy Noah started wanting more. Most times, we would argue, and he would keep on saying he doesn't want a life like the one his parents has.

Noah started trying to get into companies that dealt with cars, he would send them hi portfolio, but would get rejected because he didn't have a. degree. I, worked three jobs, so I could provide for us.

One day, Noah and I had a huge argument, and I told him he had to give up on his silly dream and wake up to reality. I could see the hurt in Noah's eyes. I left angrily to work, and returning home, I met a note on the table, the house was also quiet.

It was a note from Noah. He left me, saying he had to chase his dreams, and we didn't deserve to be together. I thought this was just a prank or some silly joke, but days passed, then weeks, then months, then a year, and Noah never came back. He never came back. I tried asking his friends, parents, and relatives about his whereabouts, but, the answers all came back negative.

To most funny part of all of this was, I didn't even know if I was divorced or still married. I moved on with life, and Now, I need this house keeping job, in order to pay my debts and my bills.

I never knew that the biggest shock of my life, was waiting for me at that mansion.
