Chapter 44: A New Villain Emerges? (3)

After the incident with the bandit camp, two weeks passed with no more incidents involving the shadowy figure. It was as if they had disappeared.

Olivia had her scouts keeping an eye on multiple bandit camps outside the city, but nothing. She even had a few scouts keeping an eye on some of the most notable figures within the town, but nothing.

"Maybe they left the city, hoping to avoid you and the royal guard." Knight-commander Logan suggested

"We've been here for nearly a month and were nowhere near catching them. Why would they be afraid of us?" Olivia said with a bit of irritation creeping into her voice. "No, they're waiting for something." She said after a moment and didn't fail to notice the knight-commander tense up for a moment

"Something to add, knight-commander?" she asked, turning toward him

The knight-commander took a deep breath before replying.

"Our scouts have picked up signs that members of the Graycrest clan are currently within the city." He paused for a moment before adding, "The disappearance of this shadowy figure coincides with the appearance of Markos and his clansmen."

The Graycrest clan is a clan of werewolves, rumored to have at least 500 members. Markos, the leader of the clan, swore a blood feud on the king roughly three years ago. The reason was never discovered as neither Markos nor the king divulged any information.

"So, your theory is that Ang Anino works for the Graycrest clan, and for whatever reason, they have been attacking random people?" Olivia asked as she looked at him

"Princess, I'm just stating that it is a coincidence." He quickly added

"Why am I just now being informed about this?" She asked

"It was only a few members, nothing to worry about." He said as he became tense

"But you just said they may be working together. Isn't that something to worry about?" She asked with a confused look on her face

The knight-commander froze for a moment as he realized he had backed himself into a corner with nowhere to escape; he sagged his shoulders and told the princess the 'truth.'

"Princess, your father, the king ordered the royal guard that if we found anything related to Markos and his clan, we were to report it to him directly. Your father also ordered us not to tell, as he didn't want you to worry." The knight-commander said as he bowed

"I see, so my father ordered you to keep quiet, even at the cost of delaying my investigation. I'll inform him that you have done an admirable job, knight-commander." Olivia said as she closed her eyes for a moment

"Apologies, princess." He said as he bowed again

"No worries, you are under order by the king and just doing your job." She said as she waved him off and looked at the reports again, looking for something.

Later that evening, as she was resting, she was suddenly alerted as she felt a presence. Quickly jumping up and beginning to prepare for a battle, she froze when she saw the shadowy figure appear from the corner of her room.

"So, you finally came." Olivia said as she sat down on her bed

"Expecting me, princess." The figure said in a husky voice as they took a step forward

"I've noticed you've been watching me, so it was only a matter of time before you visited me" Olivia said calmly

"Most impressive." They said, sitting on a chair

"Why visit me now?" She asked as she looked at the figure

The figure, when standing, stood over six feet tall. With an athletic build and was dressed in entirely black clothing. What stood out the most was that their head was covered in a shadowy smoke that seemed to have a mind of its own, and when they grabbed the chair, she noticed that his hands were not covered by gloves but were also covered by that same shadowy smoke.

Is it magic, or a magic item, she wondered?

"To kill you." The figure said, a matter of fact

"No, you're not." Olivia said confidently as she crossed her arms

"Keke, is that so, princess." The figure said as they chuckled

"You need me for your plan. That's why you won't kill me." She said, looking at the figure

The silence between the two lasted for more than a minute as they stared at each other. Without knowing what the other was thinking. Finally, after more than a minute, the figure chuckled.

"Keke. You truly are most impressive, princess." The figure said as they leaned back in the chair

Olivia was becoming impatient, she wanted to ask the one question that had been weighing on her mind, but she knew that she had to wait. Something within her was telling her to wait, and she decided to trust her instincts she asks something else.

"What's your plan?" She asked after a moment

Watching the figure's shoulder slump told her that this was not just a simple question, and she decided to be patient to hear their answer. What happened next would set her down a path that would shake the world and give rise to one of the greatest villainesses, The Bloodless Ice Queen.
