Chapter 15: Travelling out of Irella

For the next few weeks he spent most of his time in the back room of the accounting office. He was very good at his job, keeping track of all the money that came in and going out. At the end of every week, he would report his findings to Ralen and collect his job payment, he had pretty much kept the same room at the inn so had made it a temporary home.

Inbetween this he would still take quests as and when they were available and even got some D level quests that involved small dungeons now he could go do them on recomendation. Dungeons were just as he expected from a fantasy point of view, dark stone corridors, monsters and traps. He made good progress while using his magic.

Kayden was now level 19 and slowly making his way to level 20 but he felt like he hit a bit of a deadlock in his progression. When he finally broke through 20 he realised why, he had become a Minor Vampire. His passive abilities increased greatly and included; Enhanced Senses, enhanced regeneration, and Darkvision, these allowed him to see further and heal faster.

His physical abilities also rose slightly, his speed was faster and his health and stamina regenerated quicker than before.

Unfortunately he didn't have any information on how his race and level worked together, he needed to discover this for himself.

He had earned quite a bit so he decided that he would travel to Etrin City to see what he could learn there, it was the next biggest city and was known for its high educational standards, there public libraries and scholars were abundant.

He was planning to travel for upward of a month until he finally arrived in Etrin City, stopping off Tivvum then Newstead where he would commision some new gear before heading into the city. Kayden made sure he marked a map for the locations where he was planning to camp during his travel, he wanted to make sure he was near a water source since he couldn't use water magic.

He was packing up for the day at the guild when Hale approached him. "Are you ready to set off tomorrow?" he asked, "It seems like you're ready."

"Yeah I am." He responded and put down his bag.

"It's a shame you won't be staying around here," said Hale "You've done a good job here."

"Thanks, i'm glad you gave me the opportunity to work in the guild."

Hale nodded and passed him a letter. "Here, take this over to Etrin's Guild. Although you have now moved up to rank E you can take on quests higher than this. If you want we'll keep giving you low-level quests, but with this you may be able to get another rank promotion. Its been approved by myself and Val so take it"

Kayden thanked him once again and headed back to Galleon Inn to pack his things. He made sure it was tidy before he left, Sarah-Ann and the inn staff all looked after him well even if they knew each other a short time.

Lyn was not so excited to leave after experiencing the cushy life of living in the Inn, he had stayed in the room most of the time while Kayden went to the guild and enjoyed food and sleep at his own leisure.

Kayden set off at the crack of dawn, he took one last look around at the place he was staying before he turned on his foot and started walking towards the gates of the city out into Dreadwood Vale. This place had become a regular hunting ground for Kayden now so he was confident in where he was for the first part of his travel and what sort of monsters he could encounter here, but he didnt know what to expect in his journey later on as it would take him into unknown lands.

His trip began smoothly as he walked through the lush green woodland, the path was well beaten down as a common route for adventures and merchants to take. As he walked he kept an eye out for anything strange or unusual, but there was nothing of note, no monster sounds nor any suspicious characters lurking in the shadows. Kayden had travelled for several hours now until he found a signpost on a fork path that showed the direction to the city of Etrin. He decided to turn off the path and go into the woods to continue his trek, this was one of the first rest stops and there should be a small creek nearby. Picking up a stick he moved the undergrowth aside to get to his destination, he decided to take a short rest during the day and stay up during the night as he didnt know how dangerous it would be at night.

Lyn was the first to run off towards the creek so Kayden decided sat down leaning on a tree behind him not too far away when he heard a slight rusling noise. Kayden deemed it to be a small animal as it didnt make much noise but he was still slightly alert, he watched carefully as he saw the creature move out from the bushes, it looked like what would be a small milk snake back on earth except it had a long thin body covered in black scales with some white markings along its body.

It didn't move for a bit just looking towards Kayden like it was judging something.

Lyn came hopping back at this time

''Im so hungry!'' Lyn yelled to Kayden

Kayden was about to say ''I'm sure you are'' when the creature suddenly launched itself at Kayden. It was a quick strike with the creature leaping straight at Kayden's ankle and bit down. 'Hiss!' It was a slight sting that Kayden felt but in the second of distraction it struck.

''Ah ah no!'' Lyn ran back to the creek and started splashing water around.

Kayden tried to pull his leg from underneath his weight and stand up, however his body was starting to numb. But at least he didnt feel like this was a toxic poision more of a paralysis,

'What do I do?'' He said to himself

The snake was slowly making its way up to his chest as he is slumped on the ground. All Kayden could do was move his eyes and he could sense the snake turning to his necklace with its tail as if hypnotized.

Then the creature moved forward and bit into it with its fangs, pulling the necklace from around Kayden's neck and ripped the jewel out of it's socket.
