Chapter 19: No More Plot Armour?

Jack balanced himself in his seat, relaxed his arm around his steering wheel and loosened his shoulders.

He looked out through the window, dozens of fierce looking vehicles aligned in preparation for the race. A race that he must attain victory in - just for the money at least, or maybe to rub it in Jacob's face that he won.

"Weapons and gear, checked. Defensive and control systems up, vehicle power accumulated to the max."

[21] … [20] … [19]

"Shield and Missiles activated. Hydraulics, Engine and Suspension upgraded to the max."

[10] … [9] … [8]

Jack took in a deep breath, and put on his game face - a cold and expressionless mask. In a few seconds, the race of a lifetime would kickstart, and there should be only one winner…

Jack grinned, as he stepped on accelerate speeding past a few stunned players and leaving them to eat dust. His fierce headstart made him reach the Top 10 in the few few seconds.

[GO!]

"Dammit! Everyone, take that idiot down!" A player who went by the online name @Once A Shadow let out a loud roar as he punched buttons, releasing multiple homing missiles at the speeding away Jack.

Jack simply turned his head to the side to glance at a group of small rectangular screens planted on the left side of his car, the screens gave him a view on not just his rear, but overhead and under the car.

These screens that acted as his surveillance showed him the numerous missiles locked in to his car, and homing on his vehicle no matter how many times he tried shaking them off.

"Sigh, do we really have to this so early in the game?" Jack felt like crying, but had couldn't as he had no tears. If even one of those missiles hit him, not only would he be blasted a few metres back after the timed resurrection, he would also be stunned for a few seconds which will allow other players to overtake.

Jack's eyes narrowed as he took a wild turn, knocking into a car as he drove into the piles of dirt and junk by the side. He was making a dangerous, but smart move by doing this.

Although, he would lose his sense of direction in all the dirt and litter, the missiles behind him would definitely crash into the random debris, and he would be safe for a while.

"Boom!" "Boom!"

Just as he predicted, two massive explosions were heard behind him, and with the shooting up of dust into the air, Jack's vehicle was also propelled forward by the wild shockwave.

"Whew, those idiots won't let me off easily…" Jack frowned as he made a perfect curve and drove forward at insane speeds. He didn't even bother about the horrible stench anymore, at the he was only focused on winning.

Whilst Jack was busy quaking off the missiles, @Early Morning Chaos had died. As a humble and kind kamikaze driver, he self destructed at the middle of the race - taking dozens of cars with him.

This demonic behavior of @Early Morning Chaos wasn't good for him if he wanted to win - only when all he wanted was to annoy the living hell outta some players.

Now, @Early Morning Chaos had respawned far back along with a few cars and at that same time, Jack's amazing Bugatti was seen leaping over the dirt and trash, the scene was just so beautiful.

Dozens of players, looking out their windows to a car leaping over mountains and hovering above the skies, it was pure ecstasy until Jack's car rained missiles upon the frozen cars destroying them once more.

Watching as their cars were destroyed with them being stunned and unable to move an ince, the various dead players glared at the landing vehicle with hatred and anger. The looked as if they were capable of tearing the car to pieces if they had the chance.

"Damnit, that idiot didn't die to our missiles?" The player @Once A Shadow who was at the forefront of Jack's vehicle exclaimed in shock but quickly let out a soft sigh as he regained his composure.

With a righteous and calm expression, @Once A Shadow raised his hand and hit a big grey button besides his steering wheel and just above the gear switch screen.

"Hehe, as always… This would be interesting." @Once A Shadow grinned as he sped forward with all his might, his glistening red hair fluttering against the wind as he drove forward. Soon, his car was lit up in a bright grey light, his speed increasing by the second.

As his car sped forward, numerous dangerous mines were dropped behind him. The mines were not very huge and not too difficult to evade, but very deadly.

Driving into one of the was enough to blow one forever into the sky, allowing them to experience the feeling of weightlessness for a very long time. When one finally landed, they would be left disoriented for a very long time and be unable to think or move.

It was just like stun, but acted as bonus time for it. A few more seconds of being a sitting duck wasn't what Jack needed for victory, it was something he wouldn't want to experience throughout the game if lucky.

With this, Jack entered a mode of complicated and deft turns to narrowly evade the mines around him. He was already drenched in sweat after a few turns and even considered giving up this act halfway.

He wasn't a pro or some talented protagonist, settling for 2nd or 3rd wouldn't be a bad idea would it? It's not like he lacked whatever they were going to give as a prize… No! Evil thoughts disperse!

Jack nearly fainted as he made two sharp turns in a row, his knees had gone weak and throat dry. His face was shrouded in tears as he turned from side to side in evasion.

"Damnit, if only my vehicle had some special [Leap] skill or aftereffect… All these stupid missiles wouldn't be a problem for his greatness." Jack cursed, blaming everything on the incapability of his vehicle. He really felt like bawling his eyes out, but he kept his emotions in check to avoid embarrassing himself.

"Finally!" Jack cried as he evaded the last mine, albeit barely only to meet traps and boosts spanned across the track of dirt and debris. He didn't know whether to laugh or cry, as something that looked like a [Slow Down Trap] was spawned right in front of him.

And so, like an amazing racing pro, Jack performed the a beautiful sliding spin, barely dodging the mine as his car sped forward. When he glanced at his rear view surveillance screen, he smirked slightly.

Following the wake of sporadic explosions, numerous cars were cast to the sky. The road behind Jack was lit up in many colours, and all the cars not cast to the sky were engulfed in the light - including kamikaze driver, Early Morning Chaos.

"Tsk, so lucky. To think many fell prey to that simple and crude trap." Jack sneered coldly, spinning the wheel of his black ride as it's engine revved wildly, his expression fanatic as he chased after the car ahead.

Jack also took some time to spare a quick glance at a screen waiting patiently at the corner of his vision.

On it, was his currently position and the lanes they were supposed to follow. Being at the Top 15 now, he had dusted dozens of enemy cars already.

"Haha, winning this would be easy…"

Just when Jack was about to celebrate his amazing skills and plot armour, he noticed something dashing out of the light that made his choke on his next words.

Kamikaze Driver - @Early Morning Chaos! Sigh, and the car was lit up in a bright red, a big red flag to Jack who knew exactly how Robert operated in races.

Dashing after him was player @Once A Shadow and some random player @Shining Mist. They seemed unfazed by the trap and fully ready to trash the player at the front - and the poor guy was, @Jack Walker.

"Sigh… That's all for plot armour…"
