Chapter 92: Tryouts round 2
*Narrator pov*
The atmosphere of the dueling room was palpable, the sheer energy was electric almost animalistic in a way. The students watching wanted to see a good battle and the students dueling wanted to crush their opponents.
Professor Yowie took the stand, "With the first duel out of the way let's move on to the next, as you can see Madam Pomfrey is only a shout away to give it your all! Now can Gryffindor Lily Evans and Ravenclaw Olivia Green join us!" Yowie announced causing the crowd to burst into applause
Olivia Green is a tanned girl with glasses who is easily at the top of her year. One could say she is a rival of Lily's. She stood confidently on the dueling platform, her glasses seemed to reflect her Hazel eyes as she stared down Lily.
Lily stood wand at the ready, her breathing was normal but her heart was thumping in anticipation, "May the best witch win," Lily said with a smile
Olivia grinned, "May the best witch win,"
Olivia initiated with "Floralis Lash," conjuring vines that lashed out toward Lily. Quick on her feet, Lily countered with " Repello," creating a translucent shield that bounced the vine back
Lily pressed on with "Lumos Radiance," a dazzling light that momentarily blinded Olivia. Olivia, undeterred, dodged to the left avoiding the rebounding whip, and then responded with "Petrificus Totalus!" the body bind spell launched toward Lily
Lily skillfully dodged the spell rolling to the right then with "Ventus Levitas," she sent a gust of wind to disrupt Olivia's focus. Olivia, in turn, cast "Folia Obscura," creating a cloud of bewitching darkness to conceal her movements.
Lily seeing an opportunity looked at a piece of the stage that broke off and muttered, "Draconifors," the small piece turned into a small harmless dragon
As both of them were shielded by the cloud of darkness neither could see the other very well.
"Finite!" Lily heard from the haze, "Stupefy!" a bolt rushed at Lily when the haze disappeared
Lily jumped out of the way while casting at the miniature Dragon, "Engorgio!" the miniature Dragon grew rapidly in size creating a formidable being
The audience watched in awe as the duel unfolded. Lily continued casting "Ignis Florum," creating a beautiful but controlled burst of magical flames.
Olivia overwhelmed managed to dodge the dragon but entered the path of the flames, she quickly yelled, "Protego Durus!" the shield flickered into existence before shattering and blasting Olivia away but keeping her from receiving burns
The crowd seemed to have their breath taken from them. They didn't know how to react, this was just third years right?
Lily held her knees while gasping for breath, "That was a good duel," she said with a wide proud smile
Olivia who was struggling to get on her feet mumbled, "Yeah, I guess it was,"
Madam Pomfrey who was now done helping Stiles entered the stage to check on Lily and Olivia. Both seemed to be fine, Olivia needed a little medicine but nothing major.
The day continued like so, different pairs would go up and duel. Many different styles and specialties were shown shocking the professors, they assumed everyone would use similar spells because no one was taught any other spells but it seems like the students tool it upon themselves to self-study.
Several boring fights happened before an exciting one started, "Severus Snape against Sirius Black," Yowie announced with a small semblance of nervousness
Everyone knew the grudge they held.
This duel would be a good one.
Severus and Sirius stood on the stage, Sirius barked in laughter, "Finally I can beat you without breaking any rules," he laughed
Severus smirked not feeling irritated, "Finally I can get some much-needed payback,"
Sirius initiated with "Fulgur Lux," casting a blinding bolt of light toward Snape. Quick on his feet, Snape countered with "Aquila Obscura," summoning a shadowy eagle to deflect the oncoming light.
Severus retaliated with "Glacius Serpentis," conjuring a serpentine stream of icy mist. Sirius, displaying agility, dodged the freezing attack and responded with "Ignis Fulminis," a burst of fiery sparks that crackled through the air.
The crowd gasped as the magical battle intensified.
Severus, with a hint of cunning, cast "Invisibilis Tenebrae," shrouding himself in magical darkness to obscure his movements. Sirius, relying on instinct, countered with "Ventus Flamma," creating a whirlwind of flames that dispelled the darkness.
The two wizards circled each other, each waiting for the opportune moment. Sirius, with a mischievous grin, unleashed "Stellae Umbrarum," creating a constellation of shadowy stars that danced toward Snape. Reacting swiftly, Snape cast "Protego Durus," erecting a shimmering barrier that deflected the astrological assault
The audience watched intently as the duel intensified. Snape, with a steely gaze, cast "Petrificus Totalus," attempting to immobilize Sirius. Sirius, however, swiftly countered dodging to the side and using a stunning spell, "Stupefy!"
Snape dodged the spell swiftly.
In a bold move, Sirius unleashed "Incarcerous Ignis," conjuring fiery ropes that surged toward Snape. Snape, thinking on his feet, transfigured the stone to act as a shield, *Pah* as the stone shield tore into pieces on contact Snape smiled darkly, "Depulso!" he yelled causing the shrapnel to rush at Sirius
Sirius tried to use a shield charm but he was too slow by the time the shield went up some pieces already found their marks, "Argh!" Sirius gritted his teeth in pain
Both wizards locked eyes neither willing to show defeat.
Sirius grit his teeth casting "Liberacorpus," attempting to disarm Severus. Thinking quickly, Severus used "Expelliarmus" to deflect the disarming spell.
As the duel approached its climax, Severus, with determination, unleashed "Petrificus Totalus," attempting to immobilize Sirius. However, Sirius, displaying quick reflexes, countered with "Repello!" a powerful shield that repelled the petrifying spell.
The tension in the air was palpable as the two third-year wizards faced each other, wands at the ready.
In a final flourish, Severus cast "Expulso," releasing a burst of forceful energy. Sirius, however, responded with "Impedimenta," slowing down the incoming spell.
Severus flicked his wand once more, "Langlock!" he yelled
The spells seemed to soar through the air at the perfect time hitting Sirius on his left leg as he went to dodge. Sirius turned to cast a spell but realized his tongue wouldn't Move, he couldn't speak!
"Stupefy!" Sirius heard snapping his head upwards, out of habit Sirius tried to counter but no words would form he watched as the stunning spell struck him in the chest
Severus Snape won.
The silent crowd burst into cheers as Severus stood proudly on stage, he felt as if a weight had been lifted from his chest and he could finally breathe again.
'Finally, finally, I beat that bastard!' Severus thought grinning to himself
Morpheus who was watching the whole thing had an odd smile on his face, 'Tom will want him more than ever' Morpheus thought
He could practically feel the greed coming off of Tom's subordinates in attendance.
As the day winded down most of the third-years had the chance to duel and now only
One more remained James Potter Versus Maxwell Mulciber II .
James stood eager on the stage while Maxwell wasn't as confident.
The duel was about to begin when Professor Abara said, "Let's continue this tomorrow it's getting late, and most of these students haven't eaten all day,"
Everyone agreed to put off the duel in order to eat.
