Chapter 3: The scolding
Chapter 3
It's in the morning,on Friday. I woke up even before everybody could. I swept wherever was necessary, woke my cousins up to go and shower as I prepare our food for lunch in school.
I hurried ,so I will go take my shower. We all got ready for school and waited for mum Rhyda and dad Emm.
"Debbie, kindly help Lois out with her assignments, Brandon forgot to to help her out yesterday."
Oh goodness,so they couldn't do all this yesterday,after staying home all day. Now that we are late for school,....hmm I said to myself.
Okay dad right away. He drove us off right after we finished. I was very late for school . Even our first lesson had passed. I joined the class and later submitted my assignment for marking.
I was feeling very exhausted so I started to doze off.
After class, some of my teachers who knew me so well later called me to find out what the problem was but I smiled over it and refuses to utter any word. I just said to them "I'm just tired from yesterday".
When school closed , I stayed behind and made sure I did all my assignments before leaving to the house. Since I wouldn't get time to do it .
I know for sure that thunder storm awaits me in the house. But if I don't take plan 'B' I will fail all my subjects. I'm ready for whatever comes up next.
I set off to the house after an hour.
Good evening mum, I greeted her upon getting home. She glared at me waiting for explanation but I didn't mind. I headed to the room forgetting whatever she would say . For she would be the same person to complain if I draw back in academics. A moment later, I heard her on phone.
I know it's definitely my dad .
Rhyda: hello , Ernie.
Ernie: hi Rhyda, how is the family?
Rhyda: the family is in good shape but Debbie....
What about Debbie ? What's wrong? ....
Hmmm now I don't know what's come over her . She returns from school late and doesn't do anything in the house. She's become very lazy.
Ernie: what? Oh really, where's she . Let me speak to her.
I know this man is going to scold me without getting to know the other side. Indeed mum has painted everything black.
I rushed to where she wouldnt find me to call.
Debbie!! Debbie!!! Where are you , dad is on the phone Come over. Hurry.
Okay mum a moment. I pretended not to hear what transpired. I said dad wants to talk to you. She repeated.
Hello dad , good evening. " What is good about the evening when all you will do is to cause problems for me."
But dad...." Oh keep mute. You've really got guts. You want to defend yourself .
"Now listen , the next time I receive any complain about you ,you will be taken away and will never come back again understood? So it's better you be of good behavior."
Okay dad.. I gave mum a stare, handed the phone over to her and left the room.
I'm not really shocked because it's her usual thing.
I went to the kitchen and did whatever I was supposed to do .
She never bothered to come around and check whether her children are coping with me or whatsoever. She sat and crossed her legs.
Tommorow is weekend and there's no school. I would have a lot to do. I hurried and set off to rest.
