Chapter 2: Bound by blood

~There was magic in the air, and something was bound to happen.

Young students walk hastily towards their lockers, preparing for their upcoming classes. Other students just hang around, talking about the vacation and happy to see their friends again. While everyone was busy, doing what they wanted to do the most, something was about to happen...

Pearl's red blood drips from her wrist onto the bracelet's dark ropes. A cool, ominous breeze blows through her hair and down the school hallway.

The small hairs on Kayla's neck stood up abruptly as a chill embraced her body. She swallows and takes a deep breath. "Everything okay babe", Tyler asks. Kayla nods and swallows. She assures herself that whatever this feeling is, it's nothing. The teenage couple wrap their hands together, oblivious to the bizarre apparition that slowly develops beside them.

A young boy slowly appeared next to their side. His figure becomes clearer as Tyler talks about his mother's request for dinner. The young handsome man slowly opens his deep brown eyes and cranes his neck. Wearily, he rubs his face and blinks his eyes twice, as if he had just awoken from a deep sleep. He licks his lips, rubs his thumb over his nose, and his index finger over his temple, and growls softly. It takes him a moment to realize where he is exactly. Once he has pulled himself together, he looks at the duo in front of him. "I have practice. I'll see you later" he asked. Kayle nods and kisses him back. Kayla nods and kisses Tyler. "Love you" he says. "Love you too", she answers.

"What in the bloody hell's name is this?" The duo, unable to hear or see the ghost next to them, hurriedly say goodbye.

The ghost of the youngest Mikaelson vampire, Kol Mikaelson, growls irritably and takes a step closer to the young girl beside him. "I'm sorry, have we met? Do you actually believe that ignoring me is a wise decision? "I will see you after class," says Kayla. "Thanks for the present, it's perfect". "I'm so sorry for hurting you" says Tyler, and takes her hand. He lifts it up and kisses the back of her hand. Kol's eyes get big when he recognizes his bracelet around her wrist. "Excuse me but I believe that one is mine" he shouts angrily. "If you want to live mate, you will put that back where you found it." Tyler hurriedly walks away down the hallway. "Don't pretend you didn't hear me" roars Kol and walks after Tyler. "What in the bloody hell" is this asks Kol angrily when an invisible force drags him backwards. Cursing, he falls down on his buttocks, next to Kayla, her feet. "Oh you gotta be joking with me", he curses and looks at Kayla. Kayla closes her shoulder bag and takes a deep sigh. Kol continues to gape at Kayla with his mouth open. He used to be a witch, and so recognizes witchcraft from a thousand. This was a classic bonding spell.... But why? And why her! And more importantly, why him? He watches Kayla slowly walk away from him. Before he realizes it, she is several inches further from him. Again, it happens. The invisible force slides him over the ground as if a strong force pushes his back. Closer to Kayla. And there's nothing he can do about it. "What is that? God please make it stop" says Kol angrily. Kayla abruptly stops walking and looks into her shoulder bag. It is only when Kol is next to her feet that he stops sliding. "This has to be a joke". It suddenly all becomes clear to him. "This can't be?" The young girl whose side he can't leave, his bracelet around her wrist.... "Don't tell me I'm stuck with the emo teenager with a bad attitude" he growls. "Bloody hell" in shock, he jumps right when she walks into the classroom. Afraid of sliding across the floor again, he follows her. He wipes the dirt off his dark blue jeans and looks at his new outfit.

At least that was something positive. A new trendy outfit. His black leather vest and deep V-neck olive green shirt seemed expensive. "Bloody hell" he cursed when it happened again. His neat sneakers slid across the floor toward Kayla. He sighs when he stops next to her table. "So this is how it will be" he sighs disgruntled. "I could just kill you, you know" he asks rhetorically. "Then I'd be relieved of... whatever this is." He exclaims loudly in her ear. "And of course you have no idea" curses Kol, "I swear, being invisible can drive you crazy". Kayla, unaware of the boy's tantrum beside her, does her best to survive her first day of school.

"Once our home state of Virginia joined the confederacy in 1861, it created a tremendous amount of tension within the state. People in Virginia's northwest region had different ideals than those from the traditional deep south. Then Virginia divided in 1863 with the northwest region joining the union," says the teacher. "Wrong again" sighs Kol, and rests his chin on his fist.

Bored, he sits at the bench next to Kayla. "I didn't know drawing monsters was part of history class. Kol puffs and looks at the drawing of a sexy, voluptuous witch on her pad. Deep black eyes and black veins adorn her countenance. Droplets of blood are splattered across her outfit. Kol had no choice. He just had to accept that he was stuck with the emo teenager with a bad attitude, as he said to himself. It didn't take away the fact that he didn't agree. Still, it stopped him from complaining. Even though he knew no one could hear him. Of all the disasters he had gone through, this was by far the worst for him. Dead, restless as a ghost, tied to a teenager he couldn't touch, let alone talk to.

He wasn't sure yet what irritated him the most. That he was stuck with her or that he had to listen to the teacher who said the dates were wrong every time. Kol now knows why he never went to school; this is one of the most boring events he has ever done. And he has done numerous boring events.

"The Battle of Willow Creek took place right at the end of the war in our very own Mystic Falls. How many casualties resulted in this battle? Ms. Bennett?? " Bonnie looks up from her phone. "Um...a lot? I'm not sure. Like a whole lot." She looks embarrassed when her classmates start to laugh. "Cute becomes dumb in an instant, Ms. Bennett. Mr. Donovan, would you like to take this opportunity to overcome your embedded jock stereotype?" "It's okay, Mr. Tanner, I'm cool with it. Again, his classmates started to laugh out loud. Kol, on the other hand, doesn't seem amused. "Nobody else? Miss Kayla? You aren't, by coincidence, drawing one of the town's most significant historical events," asks Mister Tanner rhetorically. "Busted" jokes Kol. A playful grin appeared on his face. Surprised, Kayla looks up at her teacher. Mister Tanner scoffs. "How much...miss Gilbert?" "Uhm" begins Kayla."346," whispers Kol, as if the teacher could hear him. "450?" Kol sighs and facepalms himself. " Wrong Love." "I was willing to be lenient last year for obvious reasons, Kayla. But that privilege ended with summer break." Kayla nods. "What obvious reasons darling," asks Kol, suddenly interested. "What happened before summer break? Is this why I'm stuck here with you? Like I'm a bloody guardian? Trust me, you got the wrong vamp for that...I'm not..." He stops talking when he hears a familiar voice.

" Oh Hello," he says, suddenly interested, and looks over to the young new classmate who helps Kayla out.

"There were 346 casualties. Unless you're counting local civilians." " That's correct. Mister...?" "Well, well if it isn't Stefan Salvatore" smiles Kol. "Too bad you can't see me... I know some things I would love to do with you mate," Kol smirks and stands up. He slowly walks over to Stefan. "Bloody hell" he curses, and falls to the floor in a failed attempt to hit the student. "Salvatore. Any relation to the founding fathers here at Mystic Falls?" "Distant." "Well, very good. Except, of course, there were no civilian casualties in this battle." "Actually, there were 27, sir. Confederate soldiers fired on the church, believing it to be housing weapons. They were wrong. It was a night of great loss. The founder's archives are, uh, stored in the city hall if you'd like to brush up on your facts, Mr. Tanner." Surprised, looks mister Tanner at the young student. "Hmm." He slowly walks away, unaware that he almost ran over the young vampire spirit, who scribbled uncomfortably straight. "Just wait till I get that dagger out of my body mate" growls Kol.

Kayla took a deep breath when the school bell rang loudly. "Hey wait" called out Kol, surprised at how quickly she had her stuff together.
