Chapter 9: RAPID LEVELING UP

Shiro pushed open the rusty blue door leading inside their classroom.

"He came back! We're saved!" Someone exclaimed and everybody was filled with relief.

Shiro, who always felt separated from the class, ignored their talks.

"Hina, please, I need you to stay with them and look after them." Shiro begged Hina.

With pouty cheeks, she replied. "Fine, I'll stay with them till you return." She walked inside and sat on one of the available chairs.

When Shiro closed the door and she could no longer hear any signs of him, she stared at the other fifteen students in the class.

"I'm sad right now, no one should come close to me at the moment, no matter what happens." She warned them all.

'Is this really the Hina we know?' Someone questioned what he was seeing right now.

Shiro was standing on the fourth floor of the school building, the top floor.

He planned to sweep the whole school starting from the top.

He walked into the classrooms one after the other, searching for signs of living people.

"Hello, anybody here?" He would randomly call out as he walked around.

As he made noise, all the undead on the floor slowly got attracted to his voice.

They slowly approached in groups until he was in their line of sight.

"Grrr!" One of them growled and ran towards Shiro, leaving the rest behind.

One by one, they bolted after the first one.

"Player Stats!" Shiro ordered and the panel popped up again.

After looking through his player stats, he smiled. "That's great."

He pulled out the red sword and slashed off the head of the first undead to arrive in front of him.

The second one didn't stop and clawed at Shiro. He swung his blade and the whole wrist of the undead went flying in the air. He rushed and chopped off the head.

He didn't wait anymore and rushed to the next victim. He directly chopped off the head of any undead within a meter radius.

The more he killed, the more came. One turned to two and two turned three.

Soon, bodies covered the fourth floor. No one had survived on the fourth floor.

With a bloodied body, he walked back to the third floor.

He didn't directly return to his classroom. He cleaned the floor too before returning to the class.

The classroom's door slid open and everyone became tense.

Shiro walked in with blood all over his uniform.

"I've got good news and bad news. The good news is, I've cleared the floor above and this one. The bad news is that I've cleared both floors and found no one." Shiro informed them all.

"You're now free to walk around this floor and the floor above. That is if you can bear to look at the scene above and outside here. I'm heading over to clear out the rest." Shiro continued speaking and when he was done, without waiting for any form of response, he closed the door and headed downstairs.

Now, he was at level four and he was brimming with energy.

He cleared the second and first floors within an hour and while he was clearing the floors, he found a total of eighteen students.

"Run up to the third floor and knock on the only door that's closed on the floor. There are survivors like you there. If they ask who you are, just tell them Shiro sent you up. They'll open up." Shiro repeated this to every survivor he met as he cleared the floors.

When Shiro returned to the third floor, he was at level five. His whole face was covered in blood and even his red hair was now darker than its usual color.

Opening the door, he asked. "Who's got an extra pair of shorts and a shirt?"

A few people raised their hands signaling that they had. Giving an extra cloth to him was the least they could do for him to show their appreciation.

He took the clothes from a junior with a similar build to him. "I'll be back, I need to clean up." Shiro walked out of the classroom.

Now, there were thirty-five survivors including Shiro and Hina.

Shiro returned twenty minutes later in new clothes. Now, he completely addressed them.

"I've done the best I could do, that is making sure there's not a single undead in the school. There's no reason for me to stay here anymore, is there? There's food on the first floor. I don't know how long it'll last but it'll help out a lot if you manage it. Teacher Nero, here's the key." Shiro handed the key to his teacher.

"Thank you very much. I don't know how you managed to pull this off but I thank you on behalf of all of us." The teacher dipped his head to show his appreciation and all the other students did the same thing.

"I really want to bring you guys along as I leave but I need to meet up with someone. I need to get there alone." Shiro informed them all and Hina looked like all her blood was drained.

Shiro noticed and laughed. "You're coming with me. I don't think I can leave you behind and I don't think you want that."

"That's great. I would've committed suicide if you left me alone." She smiled.

"There should be no problem protecting the school. There's a supermarket ten minutes away from here. You can restock there if the food gets finished. I'll try as much as possible to pull the undead away as I leave." Shiro announced once again.

He turned to Hina. "Let's go." She happily stood from her chair and walked toward him.

"I hope to see you guys if I ever return to the school." Shiro bid farewell.

"Thank you very much." All the survivors said in unison.

Soon enough, a loud bell rang nonstop from outside the school gate. Shiro was trying to pull the undead toward himself.

They were all moved to see him risk himself for them all. Little did they know he had other plans for the undead.

They were his key to leveling up.
