Chapter 8: Ch 8 Crafting God
I traveled back to the capital and headed to the hospital as I'm still only on 120/200 HP, it seems natural regeneration can only do so much. Also while I'm here I might as well pick up some medical skills.
It takes me roughly 90 minutes to get here, I walk into the hospital and as I see the receptionist she looks up at me and says in a bored voice "Wolf attack"
"Yes, I need a quick fix-up and some lessons if possible" I reply with a smile.
"Either way you talk to Dr. Akbob he's the fourth door on the left" She says then instantly turns away to read her book.
I follow her instructions and enter an office filled with medical tools, a bed next to a large desk, a chair, and a metal slab surrounded by scalpels and tongs.
Lying in bed is who I assume Dr. Akbob, he is awake and writing in a book on the desk, even having to lean half out to do so. It looks quite uncomfortable.
I knock on the door and say "Dr. Akbob I'm here for some treatment"
"Wolf bites I'm familiar, get over here and take a seat" he said.
I take a seat and watch as he gets some bandages and spreads some bottled green liquid on them and begins to wrap the injured parts of my body in the bandage.
"While I'm here I was wondering if you could teach me a few doctor skills?" I ask as he finishes bandaging me.
"I could teach you a thing or two" he said.
He teaches me the correct way to bandage a wound, mend broken bones, and how to stitch wounds.
Skill gained Doctor lvl 1
After watching him closely and practicing the moves myself for hours I leveled it to lvl 13. It went much quicker than practicing brawling.
"How do I cure someone if they have a sickness or from poison?" I ask.
"That's a bit harder first read this pamphlet" he tells me.
The pamphlet is a description of 10 different diseases and their cures, I read through them thoroughly. When I put down the pamphlet he takes it and hands me a worksheet with 3 different drawings on them the text at the top tells me to diagnose the disease and the cure.
Strangely enough, when looking at the worksheet blue text starts appearing next to the pictures describing symptoms, before I even have time to figure it out myself, written in blue text by each of the drawings is the disease and cure.
Assuming that my INT is finally pulling through I wrote down what it provided. He takes my paper and says.
"That was quick and all correct, next i'll show you how to concoct medicine or poison" he said.
He quickly ran through some of the cures, I watched as he mixed herbs and chemicals in vials and explained what each one did. Next, I tried it as well interestingly the blue text showed up again showing me exactly how to do each step.

On the last medicine recipe it told me to use a different ingredient and I followed it Akbob raised an eyebrow at that but said nothing. After I was done came over to inspect my latest concoction.
He smelled it and looked closely and said.
"Incredible, you are a genius to increase the effectiveness after only a few hours of practice"
He grabs the initial pamphlet he gave to me and said.
"But of course, these are just the 10 most common diseases if you want to be a great doctor you'll have to memorize this" he said as he wheeled his bed to the corner of the room and handed me a massive book.
"This is a book of all the known diseases and cures the south blue if you learn this then you're a true Doctor" He stated.
"Of course, this is where all you strangers give up" he said sadly.
My INT seems to help with memorization, then learning this book should be easy.
"No I want to be a true Doctor, please let me read it" I said eagerly.
"Great here ya go I have lots of copies so feel free to take it with you and if you read that and pass my special test i'll teach you my best skill surgery" He said now bursting with joy.
Most players want an easy healing spell type of skill and aren't willing to put in the work to be a Doctor, but as someone who has seen the grand line, I know that medicine is going to be essential.
I take the book and head out.

As I'm walking I say I want to make a strength potion to the crafting system, I get the message Insufficient Knowledge. Whether that means my skill level isn't high enough or I don't know the ingredients I don't know, but I seem to have enough INT.
I'm heading to the library again but this time I'm going to read books and not just chat. Specifically, I'm going to get some engineering books to see if I can make some cool weapons for myself.
But on the way, I saw a ginger twat out the corner of my eye walking down an alley and turned to follow him.
"Hey Doux wait up dickhead"
"Well if it isn't the Tumbling Giant, what do you want?" he said in response.
"I want payback for the video you posted of me" I shout back.
"What are you here for revenge or money?" Doux asks.
"I prefer money," I say.
"Well thanks to that video I was able to start streaming with more viewers, how 2 grand sound?" he said all pompously.
"How many berries you got on ya ?" I ask him, he looks confused
"Berries… through what I gained hunting, just over 30000, surely you don't want that do you?" he says unsure and holding out a bag of money.
"Yup" I grab the money and skip off "Now we're even," I told him.
Doux just stands there stunned, truthfully 2 grand would be nice but I'd rather have some starting capital for the weapon I'm envisioning.
Off the Library.
"ODA, WELCOME BACK HAVE YOU COME TO READ MORE?" Bellman said.
"Just here to look for some engineering, inventing, and blacksmithing books" I respond.
"OH ENGINEERING AND INVENTING IS IN SECTION DELTA643 AND BLACKSMITHING IS PURPLEGGHT6"
Again with this organizational structure, I turn to leave for Delta643 but he beckons me closer with his hand.
I come closer and he leans into my ear, I expect yelling but his voice is a whisper.
"Earlier you asked about the poneglyphs, you seem more trustworthy now so I'll tell you, I've heard a rumor that there's a poneglyph on willow island"
Interesting I already found evidence of a ponegylph there has to be a good achievement for finding it.
"DID YOU GET ALL THAT!!!" Bellman screams into my ear.

"Ahh ya I got it thanks Bellman" I respond.
After that interaction, I headed for the sections he mentioned. I find some books that sound like they'll help, so I sit down and start reading and learning about different types of machines and how they're made as well as the physics behind them.
Also, there are instructions on how to make the components as well as various tools needed.
Next, I move on to blacksmithing and metallurgy books, due to the world we live in the vast majority of the book details sword smithing and little else, but I devour the knowledge regardless.
In the end, through just reading I got.

Metallurgy and inventing didn't get a skill and were likely rolled into the other 2 skills. I say aloud what I want to make and the crafting system didn't say any requirements, instead, in front of me, a design appeared with notes in blue writing as well as a component list.
I spend 2 hours traveling the streets looking in different stores for the parts, once I got them all I headed to a smithy in the city.
The smith didn't ask many questions and let me use the workshop for some money, looking around his workshop I see many identical swords and guns. So he doesn't look like some legendary blacksmith.
Find a workbench in the corner and start with a right-handed bronze gauntlet, I found a pair in the store, and then I took 3 coned arrowheads and fused them in between the knuckles of the gauntlet with a red hot metal pipe as there isn't any wielder here.
I also extend the gauntlet so the metal protection reaches all the way to my elbow
Then I detached the wrist portion of the gauntlet and reattached it with a mechanism that will lock it in place or let it move forward.
After I attached 2 long thin springs from the wrist to the elbow attached to a sliding metal bar on the forearm of the gauntlet.
I add the last finishing touches and some leather and wool to the inside comfort and it's done.
Engineering LVL 18
I call it the Spring Knuckle
It is a large spiked Gauntlet fit for a guy with long arms like me, beneath the wrist is a metal bar that can slide down to the elbow and lock in place with a mechanism.
When it is pulled out it stretches out 2 springs and when a string attached to a ring worn on the thumb is pulled taught, the springs release and launch a portion of the gauntlet from the wrist up the shoot forward 2 inches and deal explosive damage that's the plan anyway.
I walk outside to the backyard of the smithy and see a tree, I put on the Spring Knuckle and pull back the spring, it's harder than I thought, now I'm glad I didn't add more springs, seems like my INT was right again.
I pull back my fist, punch, and activate the gauntlet.

The tree bark is cracked and there are 3 holes bored into the tree.
"Know this is fighting with my head"

Finally, some progress on mc becoming a total badass
The Memorize skill gained at 50 INT saves info the player couldn't remember without years of study.
Now you understand what INT does
It gives suggestions to improve any crafting project and also skills like doctor and navigation.
And it makes players crafting requests possible as long as you have enough INT and system memorized information.
