Chapter 14: Nightly Excurssion

After calming down from his excitement, Malaria picked up the orange concoction and added a small pump with a muzzle to create a miniature spray bottle. Pushing the top, a light sprinkle shot out at his wrist.

Nudging and massaging the area to spread out the concentration, he took a deep sniff to test it out. The aroma was inexplicable, somehow, he had created a smell that felt 'fresh' and 'refreshing' – but it was clearly the smell of Cinnamon!

'If the people in my past life did the cinnamon challenge with a powder of this mixture, they'd probably choke twice as hard. A burning, yet cold, that's warm, but freezing feeling.' Malaria thought.

Calling out a few mosquitoes and aiming the bottle at them, they seemed to try to dodge the muzzle. Just the residue whiffing in the air made them fear for their lives just by looking at Malaria's magical bottle.

"Good stuff!" Malaria hopped around for a moment in joy, finally he could become economically self-sufficient. The mosquitoes turned into obedient dogs whenever they see the spray bottles.

It was time to plan a good way to spread the mosquitoes to cover the entirety of Konoha. Without warning, Malaria heard someone sniffle to clear his nose in the room. 'Who's that?' was all he had time to think.

Abruptly, a black light flashed before Malaria's eyes. A kunai flew through the air and barely missed the mark.

An assassin!

Malaria recognized the stranger's identity immediately. That's one of the Uchiha police officers that barricaded off his home the other day when Uchiha Fugaku came for a visit.

The officer squinted his eyes. What sort of concoctions is this brat brewing? His eyes and nose were burning because of some strange smell in the air, leading him to reveal his position by clearing his nose and miss a basic kunai-throw.

Without hesitation, the police officer disappeared. He had to retreat for now, or he wouldn't be able to extricate himself once the guardian Anbu were alarmed of his actions.

"You want to leave, just like that?" Malaria snorted, spread his arms wide and let a swarm of mosquitoes out of his sleeves. Now that he could threaten his little mozzies with the bottle, their obedience had increased a hundred-fold.

The officer was stunned at Malaria's actions. He knew that this brat hasn't moulded any chakra yet, but he did not know that he could control his insects so well despite that fact.

The Root Anbu and Danzo observed the battle between Malaria and the police officer in silence, but Danzo's heart was not as tranquil as he appeared.

'When did Malaria develop such control over his mosquitoes? Somehow, he's not showing any signs of an unsteady foundation that's normal in other young Aburame clansmen.' He thought in the shadows.

'This guy must have a secret!' Danzo smiled thinking of that.

There were many strange geniuses popping up in Konoha lately. First Orochimaru, then Minato – and now this Malaria. The first one being obsessed with research, the second is a busybody trying to help everyone everywhere – and now Malaria, someone who stirs the political landscape through mischief.

"Danzo-sama, should we ask about the source of his ability to control his insects so fluently?" Asked the Root Anbu respectfully. "It could aid us in training new Root members from the Aburame clan.

"That's unnescessary." Danzo shook his head. "No matter how he does it, it's going to get revealed sooner or later. I won't ask something I'll know in due time."

The Root Anbu nodded respectfully, "As expected of Danzo-sama, everything is in the palm of your hand."

Danzo smiled. In his eyes, Malaria was a decent candidate to inherit the Root, so he wouldn't care too much about his little secrets. 'Just like me, he is good at stirring up trouble to then fish in the muddied waters.' he thought.

"Then, should I help Malaria, Danzo-sama?" The Anbu asked. He knew that the brat had some ties to the Hokage and the Uchiha clan but looking at this situation it's unlikely he'll make it out alive.

That police officer was around mid-chunin level, over two ranks higher than Malaria. It wouldn't end well for Malaria if the battle were to continue.

"No need to. It's a good chance for us to see his real abilities." Narrowing his almost closed eyes, Danzo stared at Malaria, hoping to find out if he could defeat an opponent in a life-and-death struggle.

In the meantime, he imagined how great it would be if he raised Malaria, who was abandoned by the Aburame clan, into another darkness of the shinobi world.

--

The night was peaceful with the sounds of crickets clamouring for attention.

Malaria chased the police officer outside the Konoha Hospital. After making his mosquitoes accelerate and cover the officer, he appeared next to him and smashed a bottle of 'pink-mix' on the ground.

"Show me some respect, don't make me into another Dobito!"

Knowing that he couldn't avoid the gas cloud, the officer raised his kunai and stabbed it at Malaria's heart. Using his other free-hand, he did a few simple handseals before blowing the gas away.

"You are too slow to be a proper assassin, Mr. Police Officer."

Malaria hurriedly backed away. His hand moved brilliantly into his sleeves, taking out the new mosquito repellent and aimed the muzzle at the assassin's face in one quick motion.

*Psschh…*

Feeling a burning sensation like his face was melting, the officer snivelled and coughed with snot hanging from his nostrils, falling to the ground squirming.

"I-i-impossible!" The assassin stammered and opened his bloodshot eyes to look at Malaria. Who could believe that a chunin-level shinobi was defeated by a 6-year-old brat without any chakra?

Most unacceptable of all, he was defeated by a single attack – a push of a spray bottle.

He had been through many life-and-death battles, and his target this time was just an abandoned child studying at Ninja Academy. Even so, he still turned out to be the loser.

"Who sent you here?" demanded Malaria, who still thought he was on great terms with the Uchiha clan. Fugaku himself had asked him to antagonize a few of his Uchiha classmates if possible, after all.

"You will never get any information from me…"

Putting on a crazy grin, the officer vanished through the Body Flicker Technique.

"Damn, not this crap again!"

Malaria's eyebrows crumpled up. With his mosquitoes covering the entire area, he soon found where the officer was hiding.

'Not good!'

Malaria was shocked. Instead of running away, the police officer launched another assault. Was he not scared that his Anbu guardian would show up and blow up the matter to the entire village?

Having no time to think, Malaria hurried to evade the attack by a narrow margin. Then, with a single command he ordered his swarm to completely cover the officer and suck him dry. After a few moments the corpse was revealed, shrivelled up like a mummy.

'I killed a person…'

Malaria backed off in fear and fell to the ground. He had been acting meanspirited and sinful, but he had never killed anyone nor had he ever thought of doing so inside the village.

On the rooftop of Konoha Hospital, Danzo and the Root Anbu were both shocked that a single attack by the mosquito swarm killed a chunin-level combatant.

Malaria's mosquitoes when his life was under threat were amazingly powerful for what they are. Not only are they stealthy and fast but contained malefic strength that did not befit someone of Malaria's rank.

The fact that Malaria could control the actions of the mosquitoes at such short notice suggested that he has great mental strength as well.

"I've never seen such a talent from the Aburame clan before!" Danzo exclaimed. "If you discount his compatibility with chakra bugs, he's a diamond in the rough."

The Root Anbu swallowed. He could totally imagine what would happen if Malaria were to use his mosquitoes on himself back when he stopped the brat from knocking himself out in the classroom.

Those guys from the Aburame clan will probably regret and panic in the future.

Thinking about it, Danzo felt that the Aburame clan truly should have made a better choice on the matter. Who wouldn't shiver just thinking about hundreds of mosquito bites under your skin? A few suicide-attempts here and there are perfectly reasonable.

"You, go down there and give Malaria some comfort." Danzo sighed and looked at the shivering brat on the ground. 'He must be hardened and get used to killing in the future.' He thought.

"Understood!" The Root Anbu bowed and leapt down to the ground floor before flickering next to Malaria.

"Who is it?"

Like an alarmed bird hearing the twang of a bow, Malaria immediately prepared for battle with his mosquitoes swarming menacingly.

"Don't be scared, it's me. I've witnessed everything from the start. Nobody will accuse you of murder, nor deliver punishment for your actions." The Root Anbu waved his pointed finger, just like he did outside the Ninja Academy the other day, calming him down instantly.

"Really?" asked Malaria. He thought murder was the capital crime within any shinobi village.

"That was self-defense. I'll be your eyewitness. There's nothing to be afraid of." The Root Anbu had a stiff fake-smile under his mask. This guy seemed to be a troublemaker wherever he goes in the village, but he was apparently scared after killing someone.

"That's good." Malaria patted his chest in relief. He soon focused his eyes on the police officer's ninja pouch. 'I wonder if this guy was rich. He was following the Uchiha Patriarch around daily, after all.'

Malaria's eyes glittered. Wasting no time, he untied the pouch from the mummy and claimed it as his own.

"Mr. Anbu, I'll be off. These are for you." Malaria tossed two bottles of 'pink-mix' to the Anbu and left in a hurry, as if he feared Danzo would show up and ask for his trophy.

The Root Anbu was dumbfounded by the two bottles of aphrodisiacs in his hands. He cursed aloud: "Brat, what kind of person do you think I am?"

Malaria waved his hand. "I know, I know, you just observe people from the shadows. Not a voyeur pervert at all, I trust you."

The Root Anbu's face darkened like a pot. What does this boy even know? This was a blatant insult – he barely has any emotions to begin with, let alone of that kind!

"Fine!" the Anbu took a deep breath to regain his inner peace and emotionless self. He had already been aware of Malaria's shamelessness from following him around for the last few days.

"You, find out who sent that assassin." Danzo sent a silent message to the Root Anbu. The chance of it being the Uchiha clan themselves are low, considering they managed to get a man into the food court from this farce.

"It seems I won't be getting any sleep tonight." The Anbu sighed. Finding no space in his pouch to place the 'pink-mix' bottles, he could only put them in his breast pocket before he left to investigate this mummified Uchiha police officer.

--

Malaria on the other hand rushed back to his home.

He examined the contents of the police officers ninja pouch eagerly, only to be disappointed. The bag only contains some shuriken, kunai, bottles of food pills and antidotes.

The kunai were even made with low-quality steel, it was a weapon that would break during melee conflicts in an instant. It was brittle like ceramic.

'Forget it, it's good that I have some extra equipment. Dobito didn't have all that much in his pouch and I can't even open the scrolls, but now I could be called 'fully kitted out'.' Malaria comforted himself.

'Right, I managed to complete the mosquito repellent just before fighting that guy. How should I go about spreading the mosquitoes all over the place?' Malaria scratched his chin in thought.

'Forget it, I'm completely exhausted. It's time to go to bed.' Malaria quickly went to sleep, taking a rest for the continued assessment tomorrow.
