Chapter 2: Chapter Two -- As I gazed upon fields of red

~~ On a planet in a Star System owned by the Legion ~~

The cool breeze sang its eerie whisper of a song as it wound around the nearby cliffs, and then traveled along the plains that stretched in front of me, giving some sound to this soundless place. I glanced and settled my eyes on the face of everyone around the stainless rock that I had perched on, wondering if I would see an old friend among the crowd, but none succeeded in ringing the bells of familiarity. I felt.. faint. My Arcane Energy was at less than 10%, and my soul was exhausted from the constant refining. I looked up to the sky, finding it bright and smiling back at me with flowing streams of white and red.

I focused on the small golden orb hovering by the edge of my vision and summoned the familiar interface.

[Alert]: Contact request from (Adella).

"Accept."

I looked back at the crowd around me who were spread endlessly across the red dirt and I gazed into their lifeless eyes, wondering what their last words would've been.

Then, the background dimmed and blurred as I found myself within the contact room.

I wandered over to a window and gazed out across the empty landscape.

"This place… has always intrigued me. The way the walls seem like a liquid, flowing consistently, yet not even the most destructive weapon can change its flow."

I spun around at the familiar voice, and bowed.

"Sovereign Adella."

"Rise, Leonard. No need to bow. Our relationship is closer than that of a commander and soldier."

"I will continue to bow to you, my sovereign. If not because of your position, then because of your power."

The room went back to the silence that it seemed to be embedded with.

"I fear that the power you praise me for will not be enough."

"My sover-"

"Hold, Leonard. Hear my request before rushing to open your mouth." She said, her tone of familiarity disappearing without a trace.

I nodded, signaling my attention.

"My daughter. Take her and leave to the reaches of my territory. Our expedition force in the Glowing Domain has found a stable foothold on its outskirts."

I looked into her eyes, trying to find some reassurance, some confidence, anything that reflected her position as Sovereign, but was only met with the frightened gaze of a worried mother.

"Keep her safe, Leonard. This is my final command." She said as her figure fizzled away.

I closed my mental eyes and my sight changed back to what my physical eyes saw.

Two Gold panels and a Gray one now hovered in sight.

[Milestone Achieved: Specialized]: Leonard, Spacetime's Apostle

The overseer, Spacetime, has noted your vast achievements using its power and has anointed you a part of its Apostles.

~You can feel the spacetime particles more active throughout your body, and your soul will refine them at a much faster rate.~

[Milestone Achieved: Common]: Army's End (Flawless)

On this day, an army stood against a single man.

On this day, a planet was painted red with the blood of a million men.

On this day, a planet went silent, only to leave the whisper of dying souls.

On this day, a legend was forged.

~When fighting armies larger than your own, you'll find your army's individual strength rises considerably, and the enemy will have a higher chance of falling into chaos. Your presence to enemies evokes their primal feeling of fear.~

[Mission Triggered (Unknown)]: Keep her safe.

The Sovereign Adella has confided in you and sought your help. Protect her daughter and make sure she reaches the Glowing Domain, or turn her in to those hunting her.

I let my soul adjust to the new milestones that were engraved on it.

I replenished my Arcane Energy, then returned to the soundless war being fought in the sky.

– Celestia –

A red light flashed around in sync with the alarm.

'Intruders. Back Hull: Breached.'

My head rang and throbbed as if I had been trapped inside of a bell that was consistently ringing, my body ached and throbbed, and the threat of blacking out loomed over me. My vision had an inky overlay, as if someone had dropped black coloring in my eyes.

"Wh..t… appening… Leo…" I mumble, the words, like fire against my throat.

He didn't respond, but his hand clenched harder down on mine as he stumbled faster towards the head of the ship.

Thump Thump.

Thump Thump.

My heart beat louder and louder as the cursed energy embedded itself deeper into me.

I was… dying.

My vision blurred, and only returned back to the black sight from before as I was pulled into the drivers' room of the ship.

Leonard released my hand and with it went any support for my body, making me collapse against the wall. I pulled my lead-like eyes up to watch as he stumbled over into a chair and began to talk to the captain. He looked like a dead man walking. His skin was ghostly, his veins were bulging and blackened and his eyes had turned completely dark.

"... black… sun's curse…" He began to say.

Then he suddenly jolted upright and began to channel his arcane energy. It was a beautiful blue and silver mist that seemed to stream out from his eyes and along his arms, then onto his hands.

The entrance to the room turned monochrome, and the computers next to the door all froze.

It was Leo's TimeLock, the ability to separate an area from the flow of time and prevent any external influence on it.

"Sir.. the ship's compromised… we can't-"

"How loyal… are.. to.. reign Adella…?"

"Long live Adella." The captain replied, saluting and holding his gun to his chin.

The ting of an electromagnetic shell hitting the floor synced with the sound of the outer doors being blasted open.

"...don't.. worry… princess…." Leo said, attempting to give me a reassuring smile.

He pulled himself off his seat and trudged over to me, dragging his legs like metal weights.

My vision began to fade in and out of the black haze as he dragged himself closer.

My vision went out with the sight of blue and silver mist enveloping me.
