Chapter 2: Chapter 2- New school

I was woken up by someone shaking me gently, It was Kendra, the head maid. She was always so kind and sweet and I would have loved for us to be friends -even though she twice my age- but the only time we got to see each other without my parents around was when she woke me up in the mornings.

“It’s your first day at your new school, you don’t want to be late.“Kendra said breaking me out of my thoughts.

I smiled tiredly at her and went to the bathroom. After taking a quick shower, I came into my room with a towel wrapped around me and found my clothes laid out on my bed.

It was a simple dark blue dress with stockings. I got dressed and Kendra came back to do my hair and makeup. I had never been allowed to do that myself but if I was I would have skipped it altogether.

I just don’t see why I need to have my hair styled to perfection and my face caked with makeup. Well, at least for school it was kept to a minimum but for social events, I wouldn’t have the tiniest bit of my actual skin revealed.

I was brought out of my thoughts as Kendra told me to go downstairs for breakfast. I didn’t bother looking in the mirror as I walked out of my room and down the stairs.

I found my parents and brothers waiting for me at the table. We all had our own chairs and of course, my one was already chosen by my parents when I arrived for dinner on the day we moved.

I sat down and had breakfast quietly because apparently it’s inappropriate to have a conversation while eating with your family. After breakfast, Daniel, my older brother went to his car and Braden, my little brother went with him. Daniel always dropped Braden to school because they wanted some “bro time.”

Our family driver always drove me to school. Mother and Father always said that it was a “special treatment” just for me. I just think it’s because they think I’ll skip school if I went any other way, but I wouldn’t because it’s the only place I can get away from this suffocating family a little.

I finished my breakfast and made my way towards the front door when my father’s voice stopped me.

“Wait, I’m coming with you” I didn’t dare question him so I picked up my bag from the table beside the door. Someone had already packed it.

My father walked ahead of me as we made our way out the door and into the car. The car ride started in silence. I was getting anxious to know why he came with me since this has never happened before.

At last, my father opened his mouth to speak without looking at me. “You are not to make any friends or sit in the cafeteria for lunch. We are not to get a word from the teachers about your behavior and you will most definitely not lower your marks.”

His words and tone were harsh and cold but it didn’t affect me anymore. “Yes, father” I said those words about a million times every day. He still faced forward and continued to speak “The family moving is no reason for you to start disobeying us. I will be closely monitoring you at home and anywhere I can but at school, Braden will be watching you and will report back to me every day.”

Great. I have people babysitting me, not that it’s a new thing but it gets more and more frustrating every minute. It’s not like I’ve ever broken any of their rules before, why would I do it now? I stay quiet this time and it’s completely silent for the rest of the ride.

Just as I’m getting out of the car he grabs my hand and says “And remember, no boys what so ever” I just slid out of his grasp, eager to get away from the suffocation I felt inside there.

I look at the school in front and read “Northwood High school” and sighed as I started walking through the gates. To my great luck, there were signs directing which way the administration Office was.

I followed them and went inside finding that there were already some other people there. I waited for about 3 minutes until a nice lady in her early 30s came to me.

" Sorry for the wait, love, it’s just always so busy at the start of the year. Now, what came I help you with” I smiled at her and replied, “My name is Iris Faith Jones, I’m new to the school and I’m not really sure where to go.”

As soon as the words left my mouth, she started looking through a huge pile of papers. “Yes, yes, Iris Of course” she kept mumbling some words that I couldn’t make out until finally, she pulled some papers out.

“Here you are, your schedule, locker number and code and a map of the school, Have a great first day of school” and she was off to help someone else.

I exited the Office and went looking for my first class which was English, My favorite. I didn’t have anything that I needed to put in my locker so I would just find it later.

Following the map, I found my classroom entered to see that it was mostly full. I found a seat at the back of the classroom and luckily it was right next to a window. While I was waiting for the teacher to arrive, I stared out the window at the trees surrounding and watched carefully as the leaves danced in the wind, wishing I could be out there and dance freely with them.
