Chapter 22: Transformation Lessons

Harry and Ron sat in their seats with sullen faces under the gaze of Professor McGonagall and the entire class.

"Slytherin scores ten points!" Said Professor McGonagall suddenly.

The other students looked at Professor McGonagall with wide eyes of disbelief. Why did Slytherin get extra points for no reason?

"Mr. Ivanov, can you tell us how you realized I was the cat just now?" Professor McGonagall said with a hint of appreciation.

Hermione looked at Iyad with surprised eyes as she waited for him to say the answer.

"I could never identify that it was you Professor McGonagall..." Iyad thought bitterly. Truth be told, he could never directly see that it was Professor McGonagall and if it wasn't because he already knew, it would just stay at that.

Professor McGonagall believes that her transformation is perfect and flawless, even if Dumbledore were to look closely, he might not be able to find it. But now Iyad, a student who had just entered Hogwarts at the age of eleven, discovered her, so she was very intrigued.

"Professor McGonagall, your transformation was so perfect that even with the help of my magical eye I couldn't tell it was you. The only thing I felt was a very low human presence and considering this class is about transformation, I just assumed it might be you." Iyad replied eloquently and said, "However, I couldn't have noticed if we weren't in a classroom like this."

Professor McGonagall in terms of transformations is one of the seven members registered with the Ministry of Magic within the Animagus registry and she was possibly one of the most powerful witches in terms of transformation magic.

Her answer was satisfactory enough, wasn't it? Iyad thought to himself as he sat back down.

"Very well, Mr. Ivanov. " Professor McGonagall gave Iyad an admiring look.

It is not a wizard with great strength that can be called a great wizard, in most cases, a wizard with extraordinary wisdom is more worthy of admiration than someone extremely powerful.

Like Professor McGonagall, her strength is not strong, it can be said that she is only slightly stronger than ordinary wizards. But she is very skilled in both transformation and transfiguration, and she herself decided to be an Animaga to better explain in detail her classes.

Therefore, if Iyad is interested in studying Animagus in depth, Professor McGonagall would be happy to help him as well as any other student interested in her class.

It takes skill, practice and patience for wizards and witches to become Animagus.

The process is long and arduous, and has the potential to backfire and cause the transformation to go horribly wrong. Many witches and wizards simply feel that their time could be spent in other ways, as the skill is of limited practical use unless one has a great need for disguise or concealment.

Iyad, who knew that, was very curious about what his animal would be if he decided to become an Animagus.

After all the initial interruptions, Professor McGonagall began by giving a warning to young wizards and witches who are very naughty.

"Transformation is one of the most complex and dangerous things you will learn at Hogwarts. Anyone not paying attention in class must leave and will not be allowed to return. You have been warned." Said Professor McGonagall solemnly.

After saying that, Professor McGonagall began the class in a matter-of-fact manner.

"Alright, now transformation or transfiguration is also a type of spell but these differ between form and function to matter and energy. Transformation has to do with the object or matter, while spells have to do with what the object or matter does. It is not as complicated as it sounds, conventional spells have a certain time limit, this means that the effects and side effects magically induced by the caster are not meant to last or be eternal."

Professor McGonagall pointed out, "First of all you should know that transformation and transfiguration is a type of spell that alters the shape or appearance of an object or person." After saying that, Professor McGonagall cast a spell on a caged bird and turned it into a teapot.

"Spells in this group can be separated into true transformation spells to alter an already existing object, and spells where the desired object manifests out of thin air. An example of the first type of transformation is the spell 'Vera Verto', where an animal is transformed into cups of water while an example of transfiguration from nothing is 'Avis', a spell that produces a flock of birds."

Professor McGonagall uses spells as her explanation moves quickly and continuously. For many young wizards, this is much more shocking than what happened to the transformed cat that turned into Professor McGonagall just now. Now, not everyone knows that Animagus transformation is much more difficult than transforming objects.

When the students saw the spells that Professor McGonagall used, they wanted to learn how to turn a bird into a teapot and summon birds out of thin air from the tip of her wand, but then they realized that to use the 'Avis' spell would take a little longer. After they jotted down a bunch of complicated and esoteric notes, Professor McGonagall handed them each a match and asked them to try to turn the match into a needle.

"All right, Mr. Ivanov! Slytherin gets ten points." Professor McGonagall praised Iyad and added points to his house as a reward for completing the small task assigned.

All the Slytherin students looked at Iyad with admiration, who in just one class gave Slytherin twenty points. It was generally known that only professors who considered the student's performance to be excellent would be rewarded with ten house points.

Professors who are heads of house prefer to praise and teach in a more attentive manner to students who are from their own house, something that Snape does not mind by openly announcing his preference for Slytherin.

However, Professor McGonagall is known for being stern and fair, subjectively taking a neutral side. And for those who already know Professor McGonagall, it is very complicated for her to reward students with ten points in her classes.

Until the end of the transformations class, except for Hermione who was the most accurate in the transformation and Professor McGonagall gave her ten points for Gryffindor, no other student made an outstanding achievement in the match.

Of course, most of the students who knew how difficult the transformation class was were not very interested in striving to excel in Professor McGonagall's classes.

Instead, many of the Slytherin students were looking forward more to the Defenses Against the Dark Arts class. What young wizard isn't interested in shining and becoming a powerful wizard? But Iyad, who knew how disastrous the classes would be in the first and second year of Hogwarts, was very disinterested.

Professor Quirrell made one of the most important classes at Hogwarts a disaster.

His boring lectures and slow, shaky voice caused many to fall asleep in class. The only interesting thing was the supposed scarf that smelled of garlic, which everyone assumed was a protective measure he used because of his fear of vampires after the attack he had in the Black Forest, Albania. But Iyad was the only one who knew what Professor Quirrelll was hiding and that that scarf was supposedly given by an African prince for eliminating a zombie just to keep that secret hidden.
