Chapter 4: 04 - My Talent Is Greater Than Expected

"Oliver?" A sweet voice called my name.

'Damn, she really found me…' I thought frustrated, I knew I had put myself in potential danger, but I knew that being afraid of everything wouldn't help me get any further, so even though I was worried, I just I turned around and responded naturally.

"Wsup?"

At that moment all the other students who were chatting as they prepared to leave fell silent.

They hadn't realized that Elena hadn't left the room yet, and seeing her take the initiative to talk to someone left them even more shocked!

In all the years they studied together, Elena never made the first move to talk to anyone, she just responded to the things other people said to her, so seeing this happen now has made everyone very surprised!

Even more when seeing that she had taken the initiative to talk to a boy!

I just ignored the reaction of the people around me and pretended to be natural, while Elena in front of me also acted like it was irrelevant.

But to everyone's surprise, including mine, instead of the expressionless face she normally uses when dealing with others, Elena showed a slight expression of insecurity through her eyes, as her mouth was covered by a black mask. . "Can you wait a little?"

At this point everyone was even more shocked, but instead of staying to listen to the gossip, the students were very conscientious and rushed out of the room and left the space just for me and Elena.

Especially considering that everyone had some type of friendship with me, and most people had at least a little respect for Elena, it wasn't a very difficult thing to do.

Knowing there was no way I could escape, I just nodded and set my backpack on a side table while I waited for the other students to leave the room.

She also apparently didn't want to say it in front of the other students, so we both just sat in silence as we watched each other.

The other students' appreciation for Elena was not without reason, she was definitely one of the most beautiful girls I've ever seen. Despite having a mask covering half of the face, even with a mask it is possible to know if a person is beautiful or not.

And Elena definitely fit in with beautiful people.

Straight black hair cut to shoulder length, white skin very well cared for, relatively large breasts that contrasted with her slim waist, but slightly wider hips, making her body shaped like a guitar.

Despite the height of 1.70 m, which was probably even be taller than some of the boys in the class, for me who is 1.80 m is not a bad thing, in fact, it is something that makes her even more attractive, as it takes a little bit off of the impression of just a girl to be protected and it projects her more as a woman, adding that with her expression which is always a little cold and distant, gives even more impression of an independent woman.

And as I watched her, she was also looking at me with a rare expression of curiosity.

For some reason she was apparently breathing a little harder than usual as her brows furrowed every now and then.

When all the students left the classroom, Elena did something I didn't think she would do.

Lifting her left hand, she slipped her fingers behind her ear and removed the part of the mask she was holding. This caused the mask to come off, just hanging by the other ear, thus leaving her mouth and nose, which I had never seen, exposed for the first time.

And I was right, she really was even more beautiful when she took off her mask.

I was shocked that she would do this, but when I saw that without the mask she was smelling even more intensely, I started to understand something.

'Probably she found out I was the mage because of my scent, maybe the Mana scent on my body?' I asked myself trying to understand.

Not only was Elena sniffing the air with her expression changing all the time, she was also getting closer and closer to me.

I just stayed in place while looking at her with a little doubt but I let her keep doing it to see how far she would go, after all she is a pretty girl, it's not like it hurts to see her get closer to me.

This went on for a whole 2 minutes, every few seconds she got a little closer and breathed harder, her expression constantly changing between doubt, realization, happiness and back to doubt again.

Until she realized how close she was to me, I noticed her getting a little embarrassed before trying to revert back to the cold expression she normally kept on at all times, but as she was still unmasked, it was even clearer to me than there was something troubling her and not letting her remain indifferent.

"I'm sorry, I got a little distracted…your scent…is unlike any smell I've ever smelled." She apologized.

I just nodded and joked to lighten the mood. "Since this perfume is so good, I think I'll buy more of it then."

She doesn't seem to have understood that it was a joke and replied sincerely. "It's not the smell of your perfume, it's your Mana… the smell of your Mana is very peculiar…"

"What do you mean, peculiar?" I asked surprised that she didn't even question me about my having Mana, or maybe speak more quietly so that other people wouldn't hear, but rather treat it very naturally.

Elena looked into my eyes and explained. "I have the ability to smell Mana, both other people's and mine. But even though I only smell a little unpleasant myself, in other people I feel like I'm breathing in a sewer, that's why I use this thing." She said as she pointed to the mask that was still hanging from her right ear.

Now I finally understand why she always wears the mask.

"Are there other mages at the college?" I asked curiously.

"Wizards? That's impossible, you're the first I've seen since I enrolled." She said while shaking her head in denial.

I was a little disappointed by this, as I thought that if there were more people I would have a better chance of copying their abilities.

But Elena soon continued. "But even though there are no mages, there are some supernaturals who study here."

Upon hearing this I was a little confused. "Supernaturals?" I asked.

At that moment Elena was a little surprised and finally looked at me with an understanding expression. "I had forgotten, you awakened your Mana not long ago, right? After all, I hadn't smelled your scent until today."

To that I just nodded, for someone like her who can smell Mana, there's no point in me trying to lie, if I had Mana before she would have smelled it the other day.

Seeing me nod my head she leaned back in a chair next to me and started to explain.

Seeing that she was apparently going to explain something important I also leaned back in a chair and listened with interest.

"Basically, there are different types of people who awaken Mana, some awaken without external influence, some awaken by somebody's help, and others are forced to awaken by various factors.

When someone awakens Mana, that person has an amount of Mana based on his talent, the more talented the person, the greater the amount of Mana in his awakening.

An average Supernatural awakens between 10 to 20 Units of Mana, a talented Supernatural awakens from 20 to 30 Units of Mana, a supernatural that awakens 35 Units of Mana or more has a chance to become a mage in the future.

Mages aren't much different from other Supernaturals, but they have several times the amount of Mana that a regular Supernatural has, so they can use more powerful spells than other Supernaturals, making them severely more dangerous than normal Supernaturals.

I have awakened 28 Mana Units, which is a high level talent among Supernaturals, while by its scent, I can say you've probably awakened more than 40 Units, right?" Elena asked appreciatively as she looked at me.

By my calculations I had concluded that I had awakened 100 Mana Units, but for now I didn't need to say that, so I just nodded.

"That's a great talent in itself and one that can definitely be trained as a wizard. You must have a conception of the wizarding world based on those books about that little wizard who goes to magic school, right?" she asked with a rare smile.

At this I got a little embarrassed and nodded my head.

"This is typical amongst the ordinary people who become Supernaturals, but our world is a little different from that fiction, while in that fiction wizards only use wands to fight, in our world only wizards use wands, but other less talented Supernaturals use other artifacts like blades, shields, bows, etcetera." Elena explained patiently.

I was quite surprised at how she was acting. Many questions I had that I didn't know the answer to were answered by her very easily.

"Thanks for the explanation, I really didn't understand these things." I smiled.

Hearing my thanks Elena froze for a second and then got a little suspicious looking at me before taking two steps back, but after taking a little breath she only took one step forward.

'Apparently she realized that she was opening up to me a lot, maybe my scent lowered her defenses?' I thought a little interested in this.

With a playful smile on my face I took a step forward and got closer to her.

Seeing me approaching she took a few breaths, showed a satisfied expression before becoming even more alert and taking two steps back again, but this time she didn't take a step forward.

I could see a bit of reluctance on her face as she breathed in, which made this very interesting.

But this was just a joke, I wasn't going to do it if it was something that made her uncomfortable.

– Elena POV Start –

'Control yourself, control yourself, control yourself…' I was mentally telling myself to try to maintain my control.

I usually repeat these words when I'm close to a supernatural with an abominable stench, I always have to control myself not to throw up because of the person.

But now it's the opposite! Since I walked into the classroom I felt like the whole place was scented with something sweet, even though there were no other Supernaturals in the classroom, because there were people who could possibly wake up walking around the college for so many years, the smell practically got impregnated here.

Who would have thought that today the smell I hate so much wouldn't be so clear anymore?

When I arrived in the classroom I didn't even notice the bad smell that usually was here, as for some reason there was a perfume overshadowing the bad smell!

Initially the scent was not so evident, so I stopped for a while at the entrance and sniffed the air again to smell it, but during classes, the scent was getting stronger and stronger.

It made me sure that it was coming from a student, I just couldn't tell who it was.

When class ended I waited for people to get up to leave and for a few minutes the smell didn't change. As I was giving up I finally smelled it getting stronger.

Turning in the direction of the smell I saw him, a boy with short, messy black hair, wearing some Adidas clothes and for some reason he was wearing sunglasses in the classroom.

If I'm not mistaken his name is Oliver, right? I think I heard some girl talking about him. Unfortunately I didn't pay enough attention at the time, so I don't even remember what it was.

I paid attention to his appearance for just a second or two, after that the smell coming from him was melting my brain.

Seeing that he was leaving I got up without realizing it and called him.

During the whole conversation his scent was getting more and more evident, I had to concentrate very hard to be able to speak properly.

Especially after I took off the mask, the smell became several times more intense!

Until at one point he thanked me for explaining these things to him and I realized, since when do I enjoy talking to a person so much? I don't even talk to my family that much, since the smell on them is so strong.

'I need to be careful, this is dangerous for me!'

Then I took two steps back, his scent getting much weaker.

'Maybe just one step forward isn't dangerous, right?' I wondered as I took a slow step forward.

But while I was enjoying the scent, Oliver suddenly took a step towards me.

The smell got strong again! My mind was on alert!

Without thinking twice I took a step back and looked at him intently. If he takes one more step forward I might draw my sword!

But after smelling that smell again that idea disappeared from my mind.

For someone who lived 21 years surrounded by so much bad smell, being able to smell something so fragrant too good…

– Elena POV End –

To change the subject I decided to ask something that was on my mind. "Why aren't you afraid to talk about it in a place like this? Aren't you afraid of normal people listening?"

With something to say to take her mind off the scent, Elena responded quickly. "You don't have to worry about that, many years ago the most powerful mage in the world was tired of the witch hunt as it was causing a war between the Supernaturals and normal humans so he made a formation that covered the world where whenever something magical was going to happen, ordinary people would automatically be distracted and wouldn't notice it as long as it wasn't directed at them.

Even if someone stayed to listen to our conversation, because of this formation they probably got distracted by something and already stopped listening to us for a long time."

This really shocked me, was there a mage so powerful on earth that he managed to cast a spell that covers the entire planet? And not only that, but what affects thousands of humans every second?

'The magical world is really magical.' I thought getting more and more excited to get involved in that world.

Elena apparently noticed my excited expression and shook her head, this is something very normal among ordinary people who didn't come from a Magical Family.

So after that Elena thought for a while and finally asked something a little nervous. "Can you give me your phone number?"

Seeing how nervous she was, it was clear that it was the first time she had done something like this.

I smiled once more and opened a QR Code that I already have on my phone.

As I always go to a lot of parties and meet a lot of people, instead of telling everyone my phone number and my social networks, I just grouped everything into a single QR Code that leads to a page with a link to everything.

Elena was confused by the QR Code I showed her, but she still took out her cell phone and scanned the code.

When she saw the page with the link to all my social networks, she was quite surprised at how practical it was.

"That's a good idea! I'll send you a message so you can add me too, if you have any questions you can ask me ok?" she asked a little excitedly.

"Fine, so I'll bother you if there's something I don't understand." I replied with a smile.

With that, I felt more relaxed. There were still a lot of things I didn't understand about the magical world... or rather, supernatural, that I still wanted to ask her, but with her contact on the phone it's easier to answer those questions.

Not to mention it's a good feeling to exchange messages with a beautiful girl like her.

'I was lucky, apparently Elena is a good person. With it I can start to integrate myself more into the supernatural world without having to try so hard to get every little piece of information.' I thought excitedly.

Ding

My cell phone beeped with a notification.

[Heey, if you want I can show you some magical places tomorrow.]

Seeing the message with the unknown number, a smile appeared on my face.

The way Elena was acting was completely different from my perception of her, apparently my scent is more attractive to her than I imagined, as even she was surprised when she realized it was affecting her.

[That would be great!]

I replied while getting excited for tomorrow.
