Chapter 24: Entanglement

Keisha's heart was racing in her chest as Luka lowered his head, the small distance between them fading into nothing.

Was Luka Haydes, her number one enemy and the biggest asshole in the history of assholes, about to kiss her?

Horrified, Keisha instinctively jerked her leg up, kneeing the unsuspecting vampire in his balls. Luka doubled over as he pushed away from her, groaning in pain as he clutched his crotch.

"What the fuck!" he growled angrily, cradling his loin.

Using the opportunity to put some distance between them, Keisha moved away from the wall, watching the angry vampire who was huddled over, glaring daggers at her. A pang of guilt hit her for putting him through such pain, but she immediately dismissed the feeling.

He deserved every bit of pain he was feeling.

"That's for trying to kiss me, you creepy pervert!" she yelled back, equally pissed. "What do you take me for?"

"You crazy bitch! I wasn't actually going to kiss you!"

Keisha raised a perplexed brow. "You weren't?"

"Fuck no!" he thundered, supporting himself against a nearby table, still hunched over. Wincing, he finally managed to stand up straight, shooting her a deathly glare as he did. "I was fucking with you, moron."

Cringing at his incessant swearing, the freshman crossed her arms. "Well, it was creeping me out so I had to do something. Who gets all up in other people's personal space like that anyway? Do you think this is a telenovela?"

"It sure fucking feels like one. How else would you explain the pile of hot shit we're in?"

"Can you stop swearing? It's cringe," Keisha said with a grimace. "You sound like your entire vocabulary is literally just the f word."

Ignoring her request, Luka studied the girl who stood nervously before him, shuffling from foot to foot. His experiment had proved his theory; he could feel her emotions.

The only reason he'd pinned her to the wall and tried to kiss her was to elicit a reaction other than fear out of her. He needed to see – no, feel – just how deep their accidental bond ran and unfortunately, it ran deep.

He had literally felt the arousal burning within her. Not that he could blame her though, vampires were incredibly sensual creatures. Even the most chaste of humans would crumble at their seduction.

"Damn it," he cursed, muttering under his breath. "I'm in real deep shit now."

Mr. Samuel sat at his desk, his foot jerking anxiously as he furrowed his brows in thought, processing what Luka had just told him. The younger vampire sat casually in his chair; the human girl quiet beside him as she nervously watched their exchange.

"So, you're saying you're still mind-linked?"

"Yup," Luka mused, popping the 'p'.

"This is bad," Mr. Samuel got up out of his seat, casting a worried glance at both his students. "This is very, very bad."

Luka scoffed, crossing his legs. "No shit, Sherlock. We can't wipe her memory because I'm connected to her and that might end with either one of us getting mind fucked. We also can't kill her because I'll definitely end up mind fucked. Basically, either way we're fucked."

"Unfortunately, you're right," the older vampire agreed with a frown. "And that's not even the worst part. If word gets out about this, we're all finished. The Supreme Assembly will not take kindly to treason."

Luka groaned at that, casting the human a nasty side glance. "All this wouldn't have happened if we'd just let you die."

Keisha flinched at his words, shrinking further into her chair. Clutching at the amulet beneath her clothes, she muttered, "I never asked you to save me."

The pureblood growled angrily, his mouth opening to respond when the dean cut him off. "That's enough, Luka. We can't blame the human for our choices."

"Our choices?" Luka hissed with venom, "Aren't you the one who insisted on saving her? If I'd known you'd be such a pussy I'd have killed her myself!"

"My job is to protect my students! How could I let her pay for your reckless behaviour?! Do you think I don't know that you're involved with her getting into the forest in the first place?"

Luka narrowed his eyes at the dean. "You don't have any proof."

"You're right, I don't. But now I can compel the human to tell the truth, she's cured, remember? Her confession would make an excellent piece of evidence to present before the Supreme Assembly, don't you think?"

The younger vampire fell silent at that, resigning to huffing angrily as he fumed in his chair. Mr. Samuel turned his gaze to Keisha, who had been watching them wordlessly.

Offering her a soft smile, he spoke. "I'm sorry you had to witness that, Keisha. This must be especially hard on you. I can only imagine how confused and scared you are. There's not much I can do to ease that, but if there's anything you'd like to ask, feel free. It's looking like you're going to be sticking with us for a while, so it's only fair you understand what you're getting into."

Keisha peeked up at the dean through her long lashes, searching his face for deceit. He simply smiled kindly at her as he awaited her reply, earning a scoff from Luka. Finding nothing but sincerity in his eyes, she decided to put her trust in him.

It's not like she exactly had a choice.

Not wanting to beat around the bush, Keisha addressed the elephant in the room. "Are you going to kill me?"

"Of course not," Mr. Samuel chuckled, sitting back down in his chair. "I'm sure by now it's pretty clear that we don't want to harm you. If we wanted to, we would've by now."

"Why? Aren't you vampires? Vampires kill people!"

"Not exactly, Keisha. Yes, vampires can kill people but there are laws regarding that. We can only kill for legitimate reasons, like out of self-defense or in protection of our secret. We can drink from people and have a little harmless fun, so long as it isn't fatal."

Keisha furrowed her brows curiously, her eyes gleaming with interest. "So, you're not vicious monsters?"

"No, we're not – "

"Don't let him fool you," Luka interjected, leaning back into his chair. "There are way more vampires who wouldn't think twice about killing you than ass-kissers who actually follow those stupid laws. Humans are nothing but prey to supernaturals, so don't get it twisted."

"Stop scaring her, Luka," Mr. Samuel chided sternly, before turning his gaze back to the human. "Is there anything else you'd like to know?"

She nodded gingerly, and the older vampire motioned for her to speak. "What were those creatures in the forest and why were they there? Why didn't you do anything to stop them?"

Letting out a deep sigh, Mr. Samuel proceeded to explain. "Those creatures are called ghouls. They are remnants of lost souls, and can only be summoned by black magic. Nobody knows how they got there, or else we'd have stopped it."

"They can only be summoned?" Keisha queried, connecting the dots in her head. "So, you're saying someone at the campout summoned them?"

"The person may not have been at the campout, but someone definitely was behind the attack. The question is who and why?" the dean mused, stroking his chin in thought as Keisha watched him keenly.

Noticing her inquisitive stare, he shot her a small grin. "You don't have to worry about that though. I promise you soon the perpetrator will be brought to justice, there's already several supernaturals investigating. For now, we should get you back to your dorm room."

"About that," Keisha drawled out, casting a glance at Luka who didn't acknowledge her. "I was planning to tell you about something, Sir."

Mr. Samuel rose a questioning brow. "Go ahead, I'm listening."

"So, ummm…I don't know how to say this but…I kind of don't have a room anymore."

"What?"

With a sigh, Keisha explained her whole situation, ratting out Luka in the process – much to the pureblood's annoyance. By the time she was done, Mr. Samuel was glaring at the unmoved and unrepentant vampire, who shrugged casually.

"You destroyed school property?"

"I was merely teaching her a lesson, Bowers. You know I'm capable of doing worse"

Mr. Samuel groaned in frustration, rubbing his temple with his fingers. "Luka, why do you enjoy doing this? Do you know how much repairs will cost, not to mention finding housing for the girls who stayed there?"

Luka rolled his eyes, crossing his arms in disinterest. "Am I supposed to care?"

The dean frowned at his response, displeased by his indifference. "That's it, I'm done putting up with your terrible behaviour. You're suspended indefinitely."

"Oh, the horror! Whatever shall I do without my education?" Luka mocked, dramatically gasping as he batted his lashes. "You've taken away my everything!"

"This isn't a joke, Luka. Not only are you suspended but you will be bearing the cost of fixing the dorm room."

The pureblood yawned exaggeratedly, much to the annoyance of Mr. Samuel, who narrowed his eyes at the badly behaved vampire.

"And finally, since you enjoy destroying people's living spaces so much, you will be housing Keisha until a new dorm room will be provided to her."

"What?"

Both Keisha and Luka yelled at his words, eyes wide with shock. The dean smirked smugly, leaning back in his chair.

"You live in a big condo all by yourself, it would do you some good to learn to share. So say hello to your new roommate, Luka."
