Chapter 24: 24. You Ruin My Heart
Forth was standing with his hands on his hips when Javin entered, supported by August and Leon.
Javin's right leg was wrapped in a cast up to the knee. Behind them Kwan enters holding a paper bag and carrying Javin's bag.
"Just take him to his room," Forth said to Auguts and Leon. He only glanced at Javin before speaking to August and Leon.
Kwan placed his luggage on the dining table.
"What happened, Kwan?" asked Forth as he pulled a dining chair and sat on it.
"I don't know exactly what happened either. August called me and just said they needed help. When I got there--"
"There, where?" cut Forth.
"They're at the junction between the campus and the road to the nearest supermarket," Kwan answered. "A guy was swearing at them and looked like he was ready to pick a fight with August and Leon. I got there when Javin called you because he couldn't reach me anymore. My phone ran out of battery and died immediately after receiving a call from August."
"Who is that man?"
"It seems he is one of the lecturers in the university environment."
Leon came out of Javin's room and approached the dining table. "Sorry for bothering you, Phi Kwan," Leon said politely. "We just don't know who else to turn to for help in something like this."
"What happened, Nong?" Forth asked.
"The three of us are planning to buy some stationery needs at the supermarket, Phi," Leon replied, looking at Forth with reluctant eyes. "Javin has been daydreaming since he came to campus early in the morning and when he was about to cross, he suddenly swayed right when a car passed. Even though the car wasn't very fast, Javin got hit too. The driver got angry and accused us of doing it on purpose, pretended to get hit to squeeze him out. We were overwhelmed because Javin was in pain while the guy kept cornering us and he had time to kick Javin in the leg because he couldn't believe he really sprained."
Forth pounded on the table, making Leon startled and almost jumped out of his chair.
"Who's that guy, Kwan? Have you looked into him?" asked Forth sharply.
Kwan smiled a little as he saw Leon's pale face. "Don't worry, Forth, I've taken care of him."
"Then, how is Javin?"
"He sprained from a fall and has a bit of a crack in his ankle. However that has been resolved and the doctor asked Javin to keep him in a cast for a week. Also he is anemic due to lack of sleep and doesn't seem to have eaten in a few days."
Forth took a deep breath. When was the last time he saw Javin eating? Is it at the beach?
August came out of Javin's room not long after and joined three others at the dinner table.
"Javin is asleep," August said calmly. "He's already taken his medicine and vitamins."
"I thank you for being with Javin," Forth said formally.
"It's okay, Phi, after all we are always with Javin," answered August. "But now we have to go back to campus because we have assignments to hand over to the lecturers this afternoon. Javin's assignment is in my hands and I will hand it over together with the permission letter from the doctor earlier."
"I'll take you to campus. Your car is on campus, right?" Kwan asked August and Leon. "Come on."
August and Leon said goodbye to Forth, who then walked them to the door. Forth opened Javin's bedroom door slowly and entered the bright, vanilla-scented room carefully.
Javin lay straight on the bed, his eyes closed and his breathing even. Forth approached the bed from the unoccupied side and climbed carefully next to Javin.
He lay on his side with one hand supporting his body. His other hand reached out and caressed Javin's head slowly, removing the strands of hair that fell on Javin's forehead.
The young man stirred and slowly opened his eyes. It looked like he was confused looking at Forth.
"Phi? Why are you here?" muttered Javin. "Where are August and Leon?"
"Already gone. They have to return to campus to turn in assignments," Forth answered. "Why do you force yourself to go to campus when you're not feeling well?"
Javin didn't answer, just looked up at the ceiling.
Forth grabbed Javin's chin and turned his face gently so it was back facing him. "Javin?"
The young man bit his lower lip and blinked rapidly.
Forth rubbed Javin's lips with his thumb. "No. Don't do that! Your lips will be cut and bleeding."
Javin's face blushed because of Forth's actions. "I'm fine, Phi, just a little tired and sleepy," Javin answered softly.
"What keeps you from sleeping?" asked Forth softly. "Is there something bothering you? And why didn't you eat properly so the doctor said you were short of food? Even though this morning when I woke up, I saw you prepared food for me with a complete and delicious menu. You didn't eat it yourself?" Forth's voice was getting sharper and sharper.
Javin felt the tips of his fingers and toes turn cold at Forth's words. He looked into Forth's sharp and cold eyes.
"I-I just don't feel like eating, Phi," Javin replied nervously.
"Javin, you want to be a doctor, right?" asked Forth, still in a sharp tone.
Javin nodded.
"You'll be doing your residency in a few months, right?"
Javin nodded again. Ford took a deep breath.
"Then how can you do well if you can't take care of yourself properly from now on?"
Javin's cheeks warmed and blushed. He swallowed his saliva with difficulty. He has been unable to sleep and has no appetite for the past few days after returning from the beach because of his feelings for Forth.
He found it hard to breathe around Forth, realizing that his feelings for the handsome man had changed and might never be reciprocated. He is feeling heartbroken, even though he hasn't started anything yet and this is something ridiculous but painful, falling in love and heartbreak at the same time.
Forth got up from his lying position and sat cross-legged next to Javin, very close to him.
"Tell me, what's on your mind?" asked Forth half bent so that his face with Javin was only five centimeters at most.
"N-nothing, Phi," Javin dodged nervously. The smell of cinnamon makes him feel intoxicated.
Forth stared at Javin and suddenly his body was on top of Javin. "Tell me, Javin!"
"No!" Javin shouted hoarsely. His eyes started to feel hot.
"Javin!" Forth's lips were on top of him now.
"YOU!" cried Javin with tears in his eyes. "YOU RUIN MY HEART!"
