Chapter 13: 13 - Shadow
While Sarah lounged around waiting for the end of the school day to go pick up Angelica at the school bus stop, Jack checked his status.

'8% for scaring David earlier.' Jack thought as he prepared to use the rest of his energy to regain it later tonight when the family is all here.
Sarah was watching one of her favorite shows on television, Jack saw that she was particularly relaxed during it, so he walked a little out of the living room.
He focused on his feet and walked to the entryway of the living room, taking about 5 steps.
Just before he reached the entryway he focused his will to appear as a shadow figure.
A few seconds before Jack started, Sarah was watching her show and suddenly heard footsteps heading toward her from the front door.
As Jack was halfway to the entryway Sarah was already standing up in fright and looking around for anything she could grab to protect herself while keeping the entryway in sight and moving to the side of the room in preparation as her terror increased with every step closer.
Unfortunately, before she could find anything she heard the footsteps stop and a shadow figure stepped into view that quickly located her and watched her for a second or two, before dissipating in front of her eyes.
Sarah stared back at it as her heart leaped into her throat, her hands clenched while cold and clammy.
When she saw it dissipate she took a few deep breaths before she slowly and shakily made her way back to the couch as she clutched herself to soothe her fears.
'Sorry, but I need to do this.' Jack seeing how affected she was, felt bad and apologized in his heart.
He checked his status expectantly, almost guaranteed an experience increase with that kind of reaction.

Jack stared at the percentage with excitement although he felt bad about scaring her with such an increase he almost completely forgot about it.
As a result of Jack's scare Sarah who had almost calmed herself debated on whether to stay here or go out somewhere to just be out of the house.
Eventually, she decided to stay. she doesn't know how long this spirit will be here so she has to get used to seeing things. After all, she does have to still live here.
She then continued to watch her show while being visibly tense and with shoulders shaking with every creak in the house.
Jack who was out of energy after that could only watch television with her and saw her shaking, and feeling worse and worse about it.
He could scare David all day and not feel much, he's a man who'll toughen up but she is a woman, the fairer sex. He was always taught by his parents to be gentle with women.
After a little while of watching tv Sarah's stomach started growling indicating her hunger so she got up and made lunch while Jack stayed and watched the television.
After Sarah ate lunch she still felt some lingering fears after the incident so she went around the house to sweep and clean up to take her mind off of everything.
A few hours later Angelica should be getting dropped off so she got ready and then left to go get her and left Jack alone.
Not long later Jack heard the door get unlocked and open with Angelica running in.
"Sweetheart how many times do I have to tell you to not run in the house." Sarah lovingly reprimanded her daughter although exasperated with her energy.
"Sorry mommy." angelica stopped mid-hallway and pouted cutely at her mother.
After Sarah entered she closed the door behind her and walked to her daughter's side.
"Come on, let's just play." Said Sarah as she gently took her daughter's hand and pulled her to her play area in the living room.
The pair then played for an hour or so before they heard the door being opened.
"I'm home!" David's voice came as he shut the door behind him.
"Daddy!!" Angelica ran to hug her father.
"Sweetheart!!" David mimicked her excitement and got down on his knees with arms open ready to receive her, a big stupid-looking smile on his face.
Sarah followed behind her daughter as she saw David stand with Angelica in his arms, her arms wrapped around his neck for support.
"Welcome home, Honey. " Sarah said as she made it a group hug.
"What's wrong?" David saw something from his wife and asked.
"Let's talk later, I found a medium close by. " Sarah diverted his attention.
"That's great. " said David and they all made their way into the living room.
Jack checked his energy and saw it still needed an hour to fully replenish his energy stores.
The family eventually settled down in the living room and a few hours later, Angelica ran off to her bedroom to play with a dollhouse.
Seeing they had some alone time David pulled his wife into his arms and questioned her again.
"What happened while you were alone?"
"I was sitting here watching T.V when I heard loud footsteps coming toward me so I got up and went to the side out of direct sight." Sarah started to explain as she held onto her husband for comfort.
"When the footsteps reached the entryway I saw a dark shadow just stand there and it felt like we exchanged glances before I saw it dissipate."
David hearing his wife's description remembered his encounter in the basement.
"Well, at least I'm not the only one who is going crazy and seeing things in this house." David joked to help calm her.
Sarah smacked his arm angry for joking at a time like this when she is serious.
"So what did you find about the medium?" David changed the subject to get away from the tension.
"I found one close to us, all I have to do is call and schedule an appointment. " Sarah explained what she found.
"What will it cost?" David questioned.
"$200 for an hour home visit." Sarah hesitantly told her husband the price.
"So expensive... they better be damn good." David asserted as he heard the high price for just an hour but he knew they needed to spend this money to get help.
"Well, they had a lot of good reviews." Sarah consoled.
They both fell into silence before Angelica made her way into the living room.
"Daddy, come play with me." Angelica grabbed her father's arm and started tugging on it to get him to come with her.
"I'll go get dinner started." Sarah excused herself as David got up to play with their daughter.
Jack whose energy is full debated on who to scare and how. After considering it for a bit he decided to scare Sarah again even though he feels bad it's that or David with Angelica.
Decision made, he moved to the kitchen and supervised her preparing dinner. After seeing she needed a knife to chop some veggies he decided to "help" her.
He moved to the knife holder and focused on his hand while wrapping it around the handle and pulling. He made it halfway behind him about a foot or two from the knife holder to where Sarah was preparing food and ran out of energy making the knife clatter to the ground.
'Damn lifting things and sustaining all that weight is draining compared to a simple quick use of force.' Jack thought as he looked at his emptied energy.
Sarah was startled and turned around to look at what hit the ground and suppressed a shiver as she saw the knife.
Her thought instantly went dark speculating the ghost is trying to kill her.
She hesitated on whether to call David it not as she picked the knife up and put it away.
Deciding to keep it to herself for now because Angelica would be curious if she called for her husband right now, so she continued making dinner.
As Sarah continued dinner Jack checked his experience percentage.

'Not much huh...' Jack lamented.

A few hours later and the family was in the living room after haven't eaten and Angelica
Angelica and Sarah were playing tic-tac-toe while David watched television.
"Alright, sweetheart it's time for bed. I'll be in there soon to tuck you in." Sarah saw it was getting a bit late and instructed Angelica to her room so she could talk to David.
Angelica pouted but obediently did as she was told and went to her room.
"Honey something happened again earlier when I was making dinner. " Sarah explained
"Are you ok?" David asked worried about her demeanor.
"I think it tried to kill me. I heard something drop to the ground behind me and saw a knife on the floor." Sarah recounted her experience to David.
"Are you sure it wasn't trying to help with dinner?" David joked to comfort her but in fact, got it right.
"I'm serious!" Sarah asserted.
"Listen I'm sure it wasn't trying to kill you. You are just misunderstanding its intention." David grabbed her hand and insisted as he didn't think it was evil.
"Yeah, Ok. Maybe you're right..." Sarah conceded.
"Come on, let's go to bed me and angelica can stay home with you all day tomorrow." David said as he let go of her hand and went to the master bedroom to do his nightly routine.
Whereas Sarah went to Angelica's room and put her to bed before joining David in preparing for bed.
