Chapter 63: Unexpected request

He was down two whole monster cores.

Still, at least one of them was not wasted.

The young man thought to himself while pocketing back the reddish granules as the helpful guard was only interested in the useful crystal and not some leftover trash.

After that, back in top shape and sent off by the overjoyed guard, the young man made his way to the trading point.

Judging by the line of prisoners carrying the corpses of mole-rabbits that died in easily identifiable ways, Viria realized that despite how much time has passed with him cultivating and getting healed up, the cleanup of the monster spawning ground was not yet completed.

Well, the truth was, the time that the young man has spent on cultivation wasn't nearly as long as he thought, he still wasn't used to the ridiculous increase in the time it took for the middle grade soul artifact to help him circulate the energy from the monster cores.

But putting that aside, Viria frowned and wanting it or not, queued up and waited his turn to sell the goods.

*thunk*

"Here. It's from a rare spawn."

"What the...?"

The combination of massive femurs being casually dropped on top of the counter and the sight of the bloodstained young man putting them there made the indifferent until that point prison guard to let out a shocked gasp.

"Really tough stuff broke through the jaws of the mole-trap and basically took no damage. Bills please – at least one green and one blue preferably."

"...?!"

Viria really had no idea how to barter in the Prison Dungeon because during his short stay there he left the trading to the three kids, so his request made the guard wide-eyed.

Nonetheless, the guard materialized his soul artifact – a magnifying glass that once put above the material showed him all the specifications and potential usage.

"Oh, so that's where the femurs of that rare spawn went! Seriously, don't split such quality loot – a whole thing would have been worth much more, and splitting the bills is much easier than carving out monster parts."

The man's face brightened out and he recalled his artifact while taking the bones and carrying them to the doors behind the counter.

When he returned he had a small stack of bills in three colors.

"Five yellow ones, two green, and two blue. Sound correct, don't you think?"

The man ran his finger through the bills and smiled at the patiently waiting Viria, and then he simply put the bills on the counter and pushed them towards him.

"It really does. And thank you for the advice – when I will find reliable teammates that I wouldn't worry to cooperate with, I will definitely follow it."

The young man took the bills and smiled stuffing them in his dirty pocket already on his way out.

"Ah! Mister!"

As he stepped outside the trading post and wondered whether the condition that he set for splitting the profits from the monsters he killed will be completed soon, an already familiar voice called out to him and made him turn his head.

All three kids helping him out showed up, the resolute girl was in the front, waving her hand with an excited expression while the other two tried to keep up with her.

"Sup'. You're taking a break?"

Viria smiled softly seeing the dirty clothes and faces of his younger inmates – proof of their hard work.

"Well, yes. Here, mister – the bills that you wanted!"

Kirri froze for a moment looking at the handsome young man before she blushed and stuttered, pushing forward the large stack of multicolored bills with the black one on the very top.

"Oh-ho? Already?"

Viria gasped, honestly surprised, and first looked at the stack before taking it from the resolute girl's hands.

"It really is, huh... I really don't get the monetary system of this place."

Viria counted all the colorful slips and shook his head in amazement – there really were all there.

No.

Truth be told, there were more than he requested.

What he wanted was either one black bill and fifteen yellow ones, or fifteen yellow ones, four green ones, and four blue ones.

What he got was one black one, four green ones, four blue ones, and fifteen yellow ones.

"..."

The young man glanced at the line to the trading post – a line that wasn't getting any shorter no despite prisoners coming in and out of the post at a steady rate.

"But that means that you are done for the day, right? I have a proposition I would like to discuss with you and the guard in charge of your block. But it will have to wait until after I take a bath, how about we met in front of the Chux restaurant?"

"Eh?"

Viria fanned himself with the stack and motioned at the trio with his chin, causing them to look at each other looking frightened.

"...is it... is it because of the bills that went missing...?"

Kirri gulped down her saliva and asked, clenching her hands together and looking down while getting teary-eyed.

"That does factor in on my plans but isn't the main reason... Listen, I will explain everything in presence of the adult in charge of you. Oh, actually, if you happen to meet the gold-haired girl, ask her if she has time to show up too. With her, things should go on much smoother."

"...smoother...?"

Viria tapped his chin and furrowed his brows before shrugging his shoulder and passing the kids on his way to the bathhouse.

"...Oh, yeah. You have a bathroom at the place you're staying, use the communal one, or go somewhere that takes green bills?"

But after taking only a few steps he stopped and turned around to ask while looking at the stack of bills in his hand.

"Umm... we... we take bath in the provided area in the juvenile section..."

Laor tensed up but answered, stuttering and moving back as if she expected something to happen to her.

"Oh, okay then. See you in an hour."

The young man nodded, deciding that with the bills in the kids' possession going missing, he would keep their split on him until they would have a need for them and went on his way.

"..."

"..."

"..."

Kirri, Tir, and Loar looked at each other in silence.
