Chapter 2: Chapter 2: The Daggers

As the shadowy figure, stood between me and the rampaging werewolf, my heart raced, and my breath caught in my throat. I could hardly believe what I was witnessing; the stuff of legends and nightmares had come to life before my eyes.

The werewolf, wounded but far from defeated, snarled and lunged at the figure once more. With uncanny speed and grace, the figure sidestepped the attack and plunged the gleaming dagger into the beast's side. A pained howl pierced the air, and the werewolf stumbled back, its monstrous form convulsing.

I watched in awe as that warrior continued their relentless assault, never giving the creature a moment to regain its bearings. It was a deadly dance, a life-and-death struggle in the dimly lit hospital room, and the human seemed to be winning.

But just as I dared to hope for the creature's defeat, it managed to land a swipe with its razor-sharp claws. The figure staggered backward, blood seeping from a gash across their arm. It was a grim reminder that they were not invincible.

Despite the pain, the figure pressed on, determination etched across their hidden face. They circled the wounded werewolf, their every movement calculated and precise. It was clear that they were a seasoned fighter, someone who had faced these horrors before.

As the final blow was struck, and the werewolf crumpled to the floor, lifeless, the human let out a heavy breath. They turned toward me, their hooded gaze locking onto mine.

"You're safe now," they said, their voice low and steady. With gloved hands, they wiped the blood from the dagger onto a piece of cloth and sheathed the weapon. "But you shouldn't have been left unguarded in this place. The hospital is no longer a sanctuary."

I struggled to find my voice, my mind still reeling from the surreal encounter. "Who... who are you?"

The Dagger hesitated for a moment before pulling back their hood, revealing a face that bore the weight of countless battles. They were not much older than me, with sharp eyes that held a hint of sadness.

"I'm Alex," they replied, their gaze softening. "And you're in the midst of a world that's been overrun by monsters. We are the Daggers, a group of humans who fight back against these creatures. You've been asleep for two years, and much has changed."

Questions swirled in my mind like a storm, but before I could ask anything else, the intercom crackled to life once more, this time with a more urgent tone.

"All available Daggers, report to the central courtyard immediately! We have another outbreak!"

Alex's eyes met mine, and they moved toward the door with purpose. "I can't stay here long," they said. "But you'll need to come with me. It's not safe here anymore."

I nodded, still in shock but realizing that I had no other choice. With Alex's help, I struggled to my feet, my body protesting every movement. As we made our way out of the room and into the dimly lit corridor, I couldn't help but wonder what other horrors this new world held and what role I would play in it.
