Chapter 108: CH 77.8
Back inside the building where the research department is located, in other words, the building where Elviera and Nigel are in.
Elviera and Nigel were walking together in one of the many halls present, but unlike all the other halls that have many rooms on both sides, this hall doesn't have any rooms on the sides, but at its end there was a grand opened double gate.
"Once we pass the gate we will be inside the research department, I think it will be safer for us inside, don't you think?", Said Nigel calmly while walking beside Elviera, he looked at her to notice that Elviera wasn't focusing and was looking down, deeply thinking while walking with him.
"Elviera?", Said Nigel to try and get her attention but again, she was completely lost in her thoughts, so he calmly snapped his fingers close to her and finally she broke her trance and looked at him a bit surprised.
"Hey! Oh, ummm, you want something, Nigel?", Asked Elviera while looking a bit lost, Nigel looked strangely at her.
"You completely zoned out while walking, I was just trying to engage in a conversation with you because you were awfully silent since we discussed the part where you wanted to join the defense.", Said Nigel calmly.
"Sorry, a lot on my mind lately, you know, since I'm returning to Vidin, my father wants my help in something urgent, and what's happening out there doesn't help it actually.", Said Elviera while looking depressed.
"By the gods, I didn't know that helping our people against the demons out on the battlefield matters that much to her, but I can't let her go, she's still inexperienced and will end up being hurt or even worse.", Thought Nigel while looking a bit sad at Elviera who looked in front of her.
"I'm sorry.", Said Nigel politely while looking at Elviera, she looked strangely at him.
"About what?", Asked Elviera in an incomprehensible manner.
"I know that you want to go and help them, maybe you're blaming me now for standing in your way bu-.", Said Nigel before Elviera interrupted his talk.
"Nigel, stop that nonsense, you shouldn't apologize for your good intentions, I'm not blaming you or anything, okay?", Said Elviera before smiling, that smile, Nigel smiled then felt embarrassed and quickened his pace to proceed Elviera and avoid being seen with flushed cheeks.
"I-I just wanted you to know that I'm not judging you or thinking that you're not talented enough or any of that.", Said Nigel calmly, they have now reached the gates of the research department and Nigel has already passed it, on the contrary, Elviera stayed outside and looked at the gates before looking back at Nigel who was still talking without looking back at Elviera.
"You know more than me that no one can underestimate you or your skill in divine casting, but you can say that if so-.", Said Nigel before he finally noticed that Elviera isn't following him anymore, her steps completely stopped, he calmly turned to find her standing before the entrance of the research department while looking nervously at him.
"Ummm, is there a problem? Why aren't you coming inside?", Asked Nigel.
"Sorry, Nigel.", Said Elviera calmly while looking nervously at Nigel, Nigel started looking a bit nervous.
"It's the only way, I'm sure that you will understand later.", Said Elviera in a serious tone.
"What? Stop these riddles already and come on.", Said Nigel before taking a step towards Elviera but immediately she raised her right hand towards Nigel and both of her right hand and eyes started glowing blue.
"Stand back!", Said Elviera in a threatening tone and aggressive facial expression that made Nigel step back while looking afraid.
"Hey hey, calm down, what's wrong with you? A-are you really going to attack me, Elviera?", Asked Nigel in fear, it's the first time that Elviera does something like that.
"You didn't leave me any choice.", Said Elviera seriously before.
"VELIOS!", Casted Elviera! Her right hand shined stronger and a cold breeze hit Nigel who immediately stumbled back in fear while looking away and hiding his face and waiting for the strike, but, nothing hit him? Just a cold feeling.
Nigel gradually looked back at the direction of Elviera to find a large ice barrier blocking his way towards the entrance of the research department!
"What?", Said Nigel in a low voice, he was obviously afraid, he calmly stood up again while looking at the ice block.
"I had to make sure that you won't follow me, it was the only option.", Said Elviera, her voice is lower now due to the ice blocking the way, but Nigel was seeing her through the transparency of the crystal ice, though not being too clear.
"Follow you?", Said Nigel while looking incomprehensibly at Elviera before opening his eyes wide after finally understanding her.
"No, don't do it, Elviera, you promised me!", Said Nigel in fear while walking towards the ice block.
"I wasn't trained to run away, my place is between those people who are sacrificing their lives for us.", Said Elviera before going to a side and started closing one of the sides of the double gate.
"Stop this madness, YOU WILL END UP DEAD!", Shouted Nigel while hitting with his hands hard on the ice block but Elviera ignored him as she went to the other side to completely close the double gate.
Nigel looked helplessly at Elviera as she finally closed the large double gate of the research department.
"No, please.", Said Nigel in a low voice while kneeling down and his head sliding on the ice, he was looking down and started tearing.
Elviera on the other side casted another glacial spell over the double gate to completely seal it, she wants to ensure that Nigel takes a lot of time until he becomes able to get out.
"That's good, it's lucky too that we haven't seen a single student in this section, looks like all of them escaped to the academy chambers building, meaning that no one will come here.", Said Elviera before turning back and started running away without hesitation.
"I know that you may not forgive me, but you don't understand me, Nigel.", Thought Elviera while sprinting across the hall, leaving Nigel behind her, staying helpless, alone in the research department, afraid, but not from being alone, he's afraid that his only love, the only one that was close to him during his study in the academy, she might not come back from outside, ever again.
