Chapter 118: Claw problems
This showed when the beast charged at alex with it's mouth open obviously hoping to take a bite of him with it's wide jaws. Alex wasn't stupid enough to clash directly like that however as he instead dodged to the side just before the anjanath reached him and dragged his claw along it's flank adding even more poison to the beast body. Five long deep wounds now ran down the monsters left side and made it's blood loss and poisoning far worse , lethal in fact. The paleness of the monsters gums told Alex that it was running out of blood.
He retreated outside the anjanaths reach for the next two minutes before it's legs buckled and it dropped to the ground weakly. The chest shivered as it rose and fell from the effort before the anjanath finally breathed for the last time. Alex waited for another five minutes before approaching the corpse to make sure it was truly dead and not playing possum. Unlike usual however Alex did not intend to bring this hunted monster back to astera since it was a fire attribute creature and he didn't want to share any of the parts.
Bite , rip and swallow , Alex ate the corpse piece by piece and watched carefully to see if his trait went up at all. He wasn't surprised when the tier didn't increase but his [fire resistance] trait rose by one level along with his [dense muscles] trait. Alex felt slightly bloated after eating the entire anjanath even with his [compact stomach] working hard to let him eat so much. Alex unfurled his wings and took off into the air after he was done before flying towards the sea to clean up before he went back to astera as he was covered in the blood and flesh from his meal.
The small fish that lived along the coast to avoid being eaten by the bigger fish were thrilled to pick off the tasty morsels on Alex and thoroughly clean his scales of flesh. The blood was even easier to remove as the water near the shore was filled with abrasive sand that Alex just needed to roll in the scrub himself. Thankfully Alex had got the sticky stuff off before it could harden and become hard to remove. The people of astera were more surprised that Alex came back empty handed than anything but didn't say anything about it.
The foreman however noticed that Alex was bloated up slightly so he could tell Alex had indeed succeeded in his hunt but had simply ate it in the field. This was suspicious since Alex preferred his food cooked as far as he could tell so whatever Alex had hunted must have been different somehow. In the end the foreman could only drop the subject after reporting this oddity since it was simply impossible to shadow Alex when he fly's since he is way faster than the wingdrakes. Everyone was clear that if Alex really didn't want to be followed trying was a hopeless endeavor.
There was one time that Roya had tried to follow Alex in the sky and Alex glared at the wingdrakes causing them to refuse to move in fear before he left. Roya had taken the warning at face value as intended and didn't try to forcefully insert herself into everything Alex did. No one blamed Alex for the incident as everyone was clear how irritating being shadowed like that must be. Alex got back to his nest and went over the traits involved in his claws to see what he needed to do to level them up.
Looking over the list Alex was surprised to note that he actually only had two traits that worked on his claws , [venomous claws] and [sharp claws]. 'No wonder my claws are having trouble , the only trait that effects their damage is only level two' he thought seriously. Alex considered this to be quite the problem since he used his claws all the time when hunting. Right now his claws barely worked on the low rank anjanath so unless he made them better his most used weapon besides his tail will quickly become useless.
