Chapter 119: Metal claws
This was obviously unacceptable for Alex since it meant he would need to change his entire way of fighting. Were he still human this wouldn't be a problem since there were a huge amount of martial arts tailored for pretty much any type of body you could thing of. Unfortunately not even a genius at martial arts could create a style from scratch that worked perfectly for a draconic body such as Alex's. The reason for this was due to how different the two types of bodies were whether it was bone structure , musculature or even the extra limbs that he had.
Thankfully however Alex had the system that let him gain new traits as well as improve the ones he already had. The [sharp claws] trait was no exception to this as it also had requirements to level up however they sounded irritation to do. In order to improve this trait Alex needed to grind his claws fifty times with a whet stone. This was easy enough to but Alex was hesitant because anyone who had ever scraped their nails across a chalk board could tell you the feeling was far from pleasant.
'I need a few more claw enhancement traits as well since no matter how sharp they are if they snap easily it is pointless.' Alex thought seriously. He frowned however as he thought about this as he had discovered a problem. 'The only only monster I know for certain have claw traits are the odogarons.' he reasoned with a frown. sure there were other monsters who also used their claws frequently but the problem was that unlike the odogarons these monsters claws were usually not their greatest feature. Alex knew that the lessor jagras , shamos and giros had the [sharp claws] trait since in the game it was one of the items you get from carving them.
The problem was that while he was sure he could use those species to level up his own trait thanks to the repeated trait being converted into levels for his , he would still have to worry about his claws not being strong enough to hold up against harder substances. Alex could think of at least four different possible claw traits that he could aim for to fix this [tough claws] ,[enhanced claws] , [piercing claws] and [weaponized claws]. Each of these trait could logically exist already but Alex was unsure of which monster or animals may allow him to obtain them himself.
The only trait Alex had an idea about how to get was the [weaponized claws] trait since he was sure that he could gain it by subjecting his claws to the same treatment as the materials used at the smithy. Alex acted on this idea immediately by collecting some astralite and a bellows from the stockpile much to the foreman's confusion and heading back to his nest. First Alex tossed the astralite into the brazier in his nest and pumped the bellows to stoke the flames hotter and hotter.
Once the metal showed signs of melting Alex reached into the fire with his right claw flinching as the fire immediately started to burn it and grabbed the metal. gritting his teeth Alex sunk his claws into the semi-liquid metal causing the material to coat them. He repeated this process five times until his claws were thoroughly covered in the rough shaped material. It was a very painful process but in the end it paid off as Alex got the notification from the system that he had unlocked a trait , [metallic claws].
Over night as alex slept his old claws including those he subjected to the process fell out and were replaced with organic metal versions that looked like the claws before the process. Alex was thrilled to discover this since he hated how rough and ugly the claws subjected to the process looked. Alex of course didn't waste the previous claws and astralite as he ate them all only to be shocked as the dull iron color of his new claws shed a layer of their outside to reveal a shimmering black metal with white spots within. Apparently his [metal eater] trait had been linked to his claws so that the material that made up his claws was based on what type of metal he ate.
