Chapter 2: Books, ink and tea(1)

After going out of the study and slowly creeping into the halls, I thought all of a sudden to the so-called gala that my mother informed me about. A tumultuous wave of emotions was going through my head

"What will I have to do this time?"

"Will I have to dance with my peers?"

"Am I going to get ridiculed by some kid of a purer blood?"

Those demotivating thoughts kept plaguing my mind as a sort of wild beast, knocking and chipping at my self-esteem.

The gilded halls and the crystalline, coloured chandelier's glow were all dimmed and obstructed by the beast's temper.

Very slowly as if walking through a marsh, my path ended up in front of the library, place of divertissement.

I entered and looked around. It was a place full of different shelves stocked up to the brim with books of all size and genre.

Inside of this sea of books and ink, there was a small isle which held no bookshelves in its area. It was empty except for a table on which an old lady was busy at work. She had ashen grey hair and a very pale skin. She was wearing a simple robe fitting for a librarian.

Her name was Hecate, and she was slowly and steadily verifying transactions which were made in order to buy all kinds of books about history and various other topics.

All of the numbers were in a perfect column, as if just standing out of order would land them an extreme punishment. It was an organized army of number were order reigned supreme.

All of a sudden, the lady's head went up. Hecate looked at me and said "Oh? Is that the young master?" "Come, have a seat with this old lady, I was just about to make some tea"

I knew that a cup of tea could calm down my worn-out nerves. I was also relieved of my duties as it was already getting late in the afternoon. As such, I accepted.

"Yes, I would appreciate deeply having a cup of tea with you." I replied, smiling

She then smiled back at me and with her worn down hands she helped herself get out of her chair. She then proceeded to walk over to a small cabinet and took out some bagged tea. Once she opened it, it started smelling really good in the library.

"I have to say, the scent of tea and aged books is quite pleasing." I said

She didn't reply, but one could guess from the little smirk she had on her face while walking to a small buffet that she agreed to my previous statement.

The librarian thus took out two sets of cups and spoons. After she dropped the sets posed on a small, beautiful silver plate on top of the mahogany table, she took out various snacks and started preparing tea.

She had a very relaxed expression while making tea and took great care of making it as perfect as possible. After she finished preparing the snacks, I started feeling better about myself.

After I finished eating, she asked:

"So, why did you come visit me at such a late hour?"
