Chapter 3: THREE. for daniel

꒱.. "So he-he tried to trick you?" Shinju gasps as she halts in her footsteps on the pavement being warmed by the beaming sun. She huffs at her brother's whining, he was the one that started all of this anyway.
"I mean you know now, so what're you gonna do?"
"..."
"Wait! you know it's not really his fault right?"
"..."
"Fine, you're gonna do what you wanna anyway."
"..."
"I don't wanna go! No!"
"..."
"Fine, you better feed me though. Bye, big brother!" She quickly hangs up and sticks her phone in her pastel hoodie pocket, and continues on her walk.
"It's gotta be this one," she rings the doorbell, pushing up her sunglasses.
The door slowly creaks open to reveal the blonde.
"Hi, Jay!" Shinju waves sweetly at the boy.
"..."
"How did I find you?"
"..."
"Oh, about that, I uh followed you home once."
"..."
"No I'm serious, but anyway that's not important. I need your help today."
"..."
"Why I'm glad you asked! Daniel's birthday is tomorrow and I think we should give him a present together. What do you think?"
"..."
"How'd I figure that out? From one of my sources, that's where. But that's not the important part. Can I come in please?"
Jay moves out of the way to let the peppy girl inside before closing his front door. "Woah! I mean my house is something, but woah! It's so pretty Jay! So do you want to go? I already know what I wanna get him."
"..."
"You'll come? Yay!" Shinju claps her hands together in excitement. "Okay we can walk there, the shop isn't that far. And my brother and his friend know the owner so I could probably get a discount."
"..."
"Okay you go get your stuff, I'll wait here." Shinju sends Jay a thumbs-up as he walks away to gather his things.
It doesn't even take five minutes for Shinju to reach boredom.
She begins to balance on one foot and then the other before she reaches the point of spinning in the middle of the room.
Jay begins walking back to the front with his phone, coat, and wallet. He halts as he sees Shinju spinning in the middle of the room. He clears his throat which spooks the shit out of Shinju.
"Ah!" She screams as she loses her balance and falls to the floor.
"Fuck!" She winces as she sits up pushing her stray dyed hairs out of her face. She doesn't even realize that Jay had snapped a photo of her before helping her up.
"Well uh ahem," she looks down at her black boots.
"You ready?"
"..."
"Okay, let's go!"

It isn't long before they reach the fancy shop as time passes by with their chatter. Shinju yanks the door open allowing Jay to enter as he follows close behind.
"Ah Miss Shinju, we weren't expecting you this evening," Mr. Han bows as he greets her.
"Hi Hanny, I know, I wanted it to be a surprise!" Shinju whispers wiggling her eyebrows.
Mr. Han lets out a hearty chuckle, "And how are you?"
"Oh I'm good, what about you sir?"
"I've been well as always, thank you, Miss. How's Mr," Mr. Han abruptly stops talking as Shinju signals him to stop talking. "Ah, my mistake, how's your brother doing? I hope all is well."
"Yeah yeah, he's just stressed cause of all the business and stuff. But I need your help, I want to find a present for my friend. I was thinking of a necklace."
"Birthday, I presume?"
"You presume right!"
Mr. Han glances up at Jay who continues to stand silently behind Shinju, "Is this the friend?"
"No no this this is Jay, I'm talking about another friend."
"Ah well, as you know we have plenty of wonderful choices for you to choose from if you'd just follow me," Mr. Han leads them to the back where the more expensive jewelry is held.
"And these are our lovely options, we have everything from diamonds to crystals. We also do custom engraving, so call me over when you're ready to decide," he politely exits and leaves them to decide.
"Okay Jay, which one do you like?"
"..."
"That one? Do you think it suits him? Wait what about that one?" Shinju points to the diamond, chain necklace. "You like it? Aw, I knew it!"
"What if we get his name engraved in it?"
"..."
"You like it? Okay, I'll call him back over."
"Oh, Mr. Han!" Shinju loudly calls him back over.
"Have you found what you wanted?" Mr. Han inquires about the chosen jewelry.
"Uh-huh! We wanted uh that one!"
"Excellent choice miss, did you want any custom designs?"
"Yes, the name Daniel engraved on it."
"That'll be no problem, please step back Miss," Mr. Han slips on some gloves before opening the display case.
"You're being dramatic Mr. Hanny," Shinju folds her arms and rolls her eyes.
"Dramatic, you say? Do you not remember what happened?"
"Of course I do, I was holding an item when suddenly I tripped and," Shinju trails off.
"You tried running off with the jewelry to go look at it in a bigger mirror and tripped on the carpet and broke the necklace," Mr. Han corrects her with a raised brow.
Jay quickly snorts remembering what happened at his house but tries covering it up as Shinju glances at him.
"You laughing? This funny?" Shinju crosses her arms. Jay innocently raises his hands and shakes his head.
"Alright it's ready," Mr. Han announces placing the necklace properly in a gift box before heading to the front for payment. "And will you be paying with a card or cash?"
"Card, please," she hands it over to Mr. Han before whispering to Jay, "I stole it from my brother earlier."
"Alright Miss Shinju, you're ready to go," he hands her everything before bowing, "Safe travels, please send your brother my regards."
"Alright, bye Mr. Hanny!" Shinju bids him goodbye before walking out with Jay.
"Okay, Jay so let's meet up tomorrow and we can give him our presents! Bye, Jay!"

As the students rejoice about the school day over, Shinju searches for Jay so they can catch Daniel on his walk home.
Shinju pokes around the corner to see Jay relaxing against a wall as he puts out his cigarette. "Finally! I found you, cmon! He's already started walking!"
"..."
"Shh, I already told you I have sources."
"..."
"What? No! I don't stalk people! Anyways did you grab the bags?"
"..."
"Good, and of course I did, it's right here," Shinju shakes the little box of jewelry.
Shinju and Jay begin jogging around Daniel's regular route.
"Aha!" Shinju shouts as they finally find Daniel.
"Hey Danny," Shinju runs toward Daniel before tripping on a pebble.
"Fuck! Again?"
"Jay don't you dare fucking laugh!"
