Chapter 3: Chapter 3: The Dawn

Jingfei heard loud yelling when he slowly woke up. That was it. Jingfei groaned, placing his hands on his ear. The yelling stopped instantly, only the sound of soft whispers remained. Was he in Heaven? Was this it for him? He could only feel things around him. His body was cold, even for it to be mid-spring when the weather was supposed to be warm. Warmth was the one thing that was missing. His body wasn't hurt. There wasn't any stinging sensation, however, it was numb.

Was he even in his body?

He slowly sat up, rubbing his eyes. He opened them, being hit with the street. Was this the street he was on? It was now brightly lit. Only there were still no lights, yet Jingfei could see everything. "Are you okay?' A voice asked. Jingfei turned to a man who crouched over him. He seemed to be Jingfei's age, if not a little younger.

The man seemed young, his eyes a dark red. However, his hair mostly covered it, with browns and tans. It went down to his jaw, which was sharp. Smooth thin eyes greeted him, with red lips. His nails were painted black on pale skin. His clothing was sleek, however, with a button-up under a sweater and black trousers with dress shoes. He looked like he worked for the government.

He seemed fined. He just didn't know what happened to him. Slowly he felt parts of his body once again, going down from his arms to his shoulders to legs. His clothing stuck to his body, as he sat in a puddle. Was he by the alleyway? He slowly looked up at the strange man and nodded. "I- I think so.." Jingfei whispered. The man sighed, slowly sitting up. "Do you remember-"

The other man, slightly taller than the one talking before, pushed him aside. This man seemed nicer than the one before. He had darker eyes, with tan hair that combed to the side. He was handsome. Very handsome. His nose and lips were slightly red, but barely anything too noticeable. He adjusted the tie on his shirt before pulling up his long coat. His shiny watch shimmered in the dark. "You seem very confused and lost. So let me explain this to you. My friend Ying accidentally hit you with his car. And…. killed you-" Jingfei widened his eyes. He looked down at himself. His body. It wasn't a puddle he was sitting in. Well, it was. But of his own blood. His clothes, skin, and concrete were all covered in crimson blood.

Jingfei screamed loudly. As loud as he can. The man wrapped his hand around Jingfei's mouth. "You aren't dead. Not anymore." The man assured me. But it wasn't so assuring. He held his stomach, before looking at his hands that were now smeared in blood.

Jingfei couldn't breathe, couldn't think, couldn't do anything. The man sighed, patting. "Listen to me, or else this will only be hard," The man said, turning Jingfei's head forcefully. "You are a vampire. Not a fictional, fairytale vamp, but an actual one. My friend turned you into one to save your life. For some reason."

Jingfei pushed him away. How could this man be joking in such a serious situation? Vampires weren't real, but dead people were. And Jingfei didn't want to be one of those people. "What are you talking about?!" Jingfei asked. He scooted away from the two men. The man, supposedly named Ying, sighed. "You don't believe us, do you? Fine." The man reached into his coat pocket, which was when Jingfei noticed how nice both men looked. Ying had on a turtle neck, with trousers and a long coat. They both dressed like it was winter, somehow.

Ying pulled out a mirror, tossing it to Jingfei, who barely caught it. "Look at it." Ying said, crossing his hands. Jingfei didn't know what to do. He slowly opened the compact mirror, seeing nothing on the other side. It went right through Jingfei. Right at the bricked wall behind him. Jingfei was breathless, air not going into his lungs like his body craved. He lifted his hand, nothing being shown.

He can't see himself in the mirror.

For the second time, Jingfei screamed. How was that possible? How could he not see himself?? Ying placed a hand on his shoulder. "I know this is going to be hard, I totally understand that. But you're going to get through this." Jingfei couldn't tell if he was mocking or being secure. But Jingfei nodded all the same.

"Am I… actually a vampire? Or is this some sick joke?" Jingfei asked. The other man shook his head. He held out his hand for Jingfei to grab. "Stand up and come with us." The man said. The urgency in his voice wasn't there anymore, and instead, there was kindness. Jingfei was hesitant, but he grabbed the man's hand, pulling himself up. He looked at his body. He was soaked in blood.

"My name is Ying, and that's Wei. We are both vampires. He transformed me when I was about to die. So, I did the same to you. You can think of us as your vampire parents." Ying explained. Wei shrugged from behind him. Jingfei slowly nodded. He still couldn't wrap his mind around this. He couldn't understand how this happened. How he could be a vampire. How vampires could be real.

Wei slowly stepped closer. "Open.." He says. Jingfei did as he was told, opening his mouth.. The older vampire pulled Jingfei's lip back so he could see Jingfei's teeth. He put pressure on one specifically. Before going to the other side. He did the same, this time swiping his thumb off the tooth.

He looked down at his thumb, Jingfei closing his mouth. "Hm, they are sharp. That's good." Wei whispered softly, Jingfei looking down as well, seeing his bloodied thumb. "We can't stay here too long, people will get suspicious. Let's go back to my apartment. Then we'll talk to you about what you should know." Wei continues, walking back to his car, which seemed to still be running.

Jingfei was silent, feeling as if there were four walls surrounding him. Not making him able to do anything. He still couldn't believe it. Believe that he was a vampire. For all his life he believed that vampires weren't real. Yet here they were, right there. Right in front of him. He was one now. He had to be. There wasn't any other option besides that.

Jingfei wasn't the type to only think negatively. He's always positive about what he does, with only one goal in mind. One thought. Yet now, his entire life plan, seemed to be drifted of it's path, by a single step into darkness.
