Chapter 8 - God Emperor

"Master, the transport vessel is in range now." Snips looked over the clone's shoulder, looking at the screen.

"Get into contact with the captain, say we're conducting an investigation."

The Mandalorian and the Kriegsman traded blows, and while the Mandalorian tried to dodge the blows, the Kriegsman would take the punch and respond with his own.

With no clear winner in view, the Mandalorian swept the Kriegsman's feet and dived for the blaster on the floor.

After scrambling across the floor to grab the gun, she flipped on her back to shoot the Kriegsman, but she only the backside of a shovel smack into her face.

Her nose squirted out blood as she reeled in pain. Taking the opportunity, the Kriegsman wailed at her with his shovel, beating her until she was knocked out.

The Kriegsman stepped back, huffing and puffing, staring at the woman's swollen and bloodied face.

The Kriegsman folded his shovel and hooked it back onto his pants, before grabbing the Mandalorian's ammunition and refilling her equipment.

"Now, you will join me." Although he was talking to himself, he needed to say it.

The Kriegsman threw the Mandalorian over his shoulder and walked out of the storage room. The hallways felt old, some rust had appeared at the corners of metal that had peeled from the wall.

The Kriegsman had no idea where to go, but he followed the stairs until he couldn't go up anymore. How he wasn't seen by any guards or such was a surprise.

He didn't have a plan, he just needed a confined space to control the situation when the Mandalorian woke up and to get away from the storage, cause someone might stumble upon it.

When he arrived at an imposing door with some biometric scan lock, putting the Mandalorian down on the floor, the Kriegsman jammed his shovel into the little gap between the door and the frame.

After a few minutes of unsuccessful prying, a voice sounded behind him.

"Excuse me, what are doing to my door?"

The Kriegsman turned to the voice, revealing a Xeno. The Kriegsman yanked his shovel out the door and approached the Xeno.

Moments later, the door opened to the decapitated head of the Xeno.

The Kriegsman dragged the Mandalorian to the bed, removing the armor, and exposing her voluptuous body. After putting the armor and weapons away, he laid down on the other side of the bed, drifting into sleep.

The Kriegsman didn't think he would have a dream, but now he was standing in front of a giant throne, where a colossal skeletal corpse seemed to be seated, with hundreds, if not thousands of wires emerging out of its back, disappearing into the darkness above.

The Kriegsman felt immense pressure around him, the feeling of kneeling outweighed his caution of this being a heretical figure. This corpse's presence was one of dimming light, a little comforting, a little warm, the opposite of what demons give off.

Looking around, there was only darkness, a wall of wires connecting to the corpse, an intimidating throne, and the corpse itself.

Against his better judgment, the Kriegsman approached the throne, and as he got closer, he began to hear a whisper.

"Can... You... Hear... Me?" Something about the voice sounded inviting, but the suspicion that this could be a chaos demon was enough for him to keep his distance.

"Can... You... Hear... Me?" Though the Kriegsman didn't want to answer, he felt compelled to.

"Yes."

The presence that this corpse gave off grew, now the feeling of kneeling was almost making the Kriegsman comply.

"So... Long... It... Has... Been... Since... I... Heard... A... Voice."

The Kriegsman wanted to charge and kill it, the urge was as strong as the one to kneel, but, the corpse also didn't feel like a threat.

"Are you a demon?"

"No..."

"Then what are you."

An image flashed across the Kriegsman's mind, the image was of a man, made in light, flowing black hair, and his presence felt welcoming, comforting, warm, the Kriegsman could not dear meet his eyes.

"I... Am... The... Remnants... Of... The... Emperor... Of... Mankind."

The image passed and all that was left was the corpse on his throne.

The Kriegsman dropped to his knees and began to pray to the emperor.

"Praise the God Emperor of Mankind for his infinite wisdom and compassion-"

"STOP!"

While in the middle of his praise to the emperor, the Kriegsman's ears ruptured, his brain bounced around in his head and his stomach turned, he would have continued, but he was compelled to stop.

"I... AM... NOT... A... GOD!"

Each word made the Kriegsman sink into the floor, as he felt a massive weight on his back.

After a few seconds of struggling, the weight was lifted and the Kriegsman stood up in pain, confused as to why he was punished, but he dared not ask.

"Why... Do... You... Call... Me... God?"

"That is what everyone calls you in the Imperium."

"WHAT!" The immense pressure fell on the Kriegsman's shoulders, throwing him back to the floor with his bones threatening to be crushed.

The pressure was lifted once again.

"Has... A... Lot... Changed... Since... I... Died?"

The Kriegsman rose from the floor, but remained silent, because he was only made to do one thing and that was to kill Xenos, so he did not know.

"I don't know, I have been made to only kill Xenos, in an attempt to pay for my ancestor's transgressions."

"What... Are... You?"

"I am a guardsman belonging to the Death Korps of Krieg."

The corpse stayed silent to when he didn't know anything, almost like he already knew in some way.

"What... Year... Is... It?"

"The 42nd Millennium."

After a few seconds of silence, the corpse spoke.

"Touch... The... Throne."

Though the Kriegsman would have been reluctant if he didn't know the corpse's identity since it was the God Emperor's, he had to comply, it's who he fought for, it's who he prayed for, so he complied with no hesitation.

Once he placed his hand on the throne, images started to flash across his vision, the visions passed so fast that he couldn't focus on a singular one, by the time he found a detail, 10 had already passed.

After what felt like hours, the Kriegsman retracted his hand from the throne, he now knew things that he didn't before, his mentality has been changed, and he felt new.

"I... See."

The Kriegsman had forgotten he was standing in front of the God-Emperor and immediately backed away out of respect.

"I... Will... Contemplate... On... This... New... Knowledge."

After a few more seconds of silence, the image of a giant man embroider in light, wearing golden armor, and black hair with a halo above him formed in front of the Kriegsman.

"Now that you and I have connected brains, I know to see through your eyes, I now know of the heresy the imperium has committed, you shall become my wrath that will descend upon the imperium, but first, you shall conquer this galaxy, purge it of Xenos that threaten our will and return to the imperium, where you will eradicate the inquisition and battle the chaos gods."

The words fell on the Kriegsman's shoulders, the words made him inspired, and felt like he could do anything, but the weight also came along with it. If it's the Emperor's request, who is he to deny it?

"I have shared some of my blood with you, you are now one of my sons. Go now, conquer this Xeno-infested galaxy, we shall talk next time you sleep."

Before the Kriegsman could get a word out, the image of the Emperor disappeared, the darkness of his dream enveloped the light and he could feel himself waking up.
