Chapter 10: Chapter 8.5 [Chapter Interlude]

Emily, Michael and Nathan were all inside the coffee shop, staring at each other. The person who would usually spark up a conversation was strangely absent for the time being, so now they had no clue what to talk about. Safe to say, the atmosphere around them was quite awkward.

You see, to understand why they were in such a situation, you must first understand Anna's brilliant plan.

The issue that Emily had was that she would only talk to Anna and not the other two. That made sense as it was rare for both Michael and Nathan to be free together so it was even more rare to see them both at the cafe. But when they were present, Emily would never talk to them unless Anna started a conversation.

So to remove this over reliance on herself, Anna decided that it would be a good idea to essentially force them to talk to each other. And how would she do that? Well, she simply had to create an excuse to leave for a few minutes whilst keeping Emily here.

"Good afternoon Anna. I would like some coffee, please." Emily asked as she entered the store after a long day.

"Sure. Lemme see…" Anna Feigned searching for the ingredients. "Ahh, looks like I left it behind. Lemme go grab it." And then she disappeared behind the curtain blocking the rest of the building and the cafe.

Emily looked around and saw the two guys staring at her, not knowing what to say. They continued looking at each other awkwardly, not willing to start a conversation. But unfortunately, or rather fortunately, Michael's impatience got the better of him.

"Nathan, you coming today?" He started

Nathan turned to his side and nodded. "Yeah, I have time. Speaking of, I heard you play volleyball too Emily. How good were you?"

Emily was slightly startled at the fact that she was even mentioned, but she quickly composed herself and answered. "I don't anymore but I would say I was quite decent…"

"Decent my ass, both you and Anna used to destroy the competition." Michael replied. "Both of you would defeat teams alone." He continued.

"Really?" Nathan asked, looking at Emily.

"That's an exaggeration…"

"No it isn't." Micheal replied. "The only reason I was even interested in volleyball was because I was enamoured by both you and Anna's performance."

"Hah, never thought I would see Micheal give someone a compliment." Nathan added.

"Oh shut up, I compliment people sometimes…"

Nathan raised his eyebrows and said, "Give me one example."

"Umm… ummm.. Umm…"

"See?"

"Yeah, b-but… Fuck you."

Michael has admitted defeat.

"Anyways, you should come play with us." Nathan asked Emily

"I have other stuff occupying me for now, so maybe in the future. " She replied

"Ah. Well, you can ask Anna whenever you're free"

"I will…"

Nathan and Michael both took a sip of their coffee as they waited for Emily to get her's.

"And here's your coffee." Anna entered in with a burst of her usual energy.

"Thanks. I'll take my leave now."

"What!?? So early?"

"I have a bunch of work to complete, so we can talk tomorrow."

"Awww, fine. Bye" Anna waved her hand as Emily did a slight wave behind as she exited the cafe.

"You weren't subtle Anna. She definitely realised that you were watching." Nathan started, monotonously

"HUH, What do you mean"

"She was throwing glances at you."

"Oh for fuck sake."

"What are you both talking about?" Micheal asked.

Nathan and Anna looked at each other before both replying at the same time "Nothing."
