Chapter 33: Primordial God of the sword

It didn't take long to find this third zone, after about 10 hours he had found it. From around a couple miles away he could clearly feel the dense divine might coming from it. He debated on going closer and taking a look, but eventually, James decided against it. The monster guarding that place would surely have keen senses, so if he wanted to take a look, he had to clear them out too. He wanted to go on a God crystal hunt first and foremost for the next 3 days before attempting to clear that place.

And that is exactly what he did, the next 3 days were spent traveling between training grounds and killing the projection guarding it. James could find a new temple around every hour, giving his skills just enough time to come off cooldown. With every temple he found he couldn't help but marvel, he had only been searching relatively close to the third zone, yet there were seemingly hundreds of temples here. Every day in god's domain was 48 hours so after a full 3 days of constant exploring James had looted a total of 139 temples, only taking a total rest of 5 hours over the course of these 3 days.

Even though he was exhausted, James couldn't help but feel that it was worth it. He had pocketed another 3 advanced silver combat techniques related to swords, the drop rate was extremely low but he didn't expect it to be high from the beginning, they were advanced silver combat techniques after all. Only 1 rank below the almighty gold combat techniques. The second part of his loot where a total of 417 God crystals, bringing his total to 431. James honestly couldn't believe it, even in the greater god's domain this was a fortune.

Looking at the loot James fell into a dilemma, this would probably be his only chance to get this many god crystals, but he didn't like the idea of staying here too long and worrying his team, and delaying his other plans. He couldn't make any contact with the outside world while he was here after all.

"I would suggest you clean this place up and collect as many God crystals as you can."

A sudden feminine voice said.

'Angelina? Why are they so important to you.'

"Well, I haven't told you this, but the spirit weapon orb unlocks a feature when you absorb your first weapon, Skill enhancement. It upgrades the rank of a skill. This feature was added to prevent the orb, a divine weapon, from walking around with only skills at the level of legendary weapons, but this power comes at a price. As you can probably already guess, this price is god crystals and a lot for the higher level skills."

'And you couldn't have told me this earlier?'

James said, in a slightly annoyed tone.

"Don't be so difficult about it, I'm telling you now when it counts, I would suggest you clean this place out regardless of how long it takes."

James just sighed.

'Do I really need that many?'

"You bet ya, about a 100 give or take if you want to upgrade a skill that came from a Legendary rank weapon, but it can vary quite a bit depending on the power of the skill. The highest price I have ever witnessed was 195 god crystals."

James's eyes became wider and wider the more Angelina spoke, he thought of himself as rich only a moment before, but it turned out that he could barely upgrade 4 skills from Legendary weapons. What a joke. On the other hand, Jake felt slightly relieved that he could upgrade his skills. In his mind, the skills were one of the biggest weaknesses of his divine weapon. Sure, he could have a lot of them, but quantity over quality doesn't work when the quality of the skill is that of a divine weapon. Now it seemed that he didn't have to worry anymore.

Standing up James yet again set off to raid more temples. With the newly gained info from Angelina, he was more determined than ever to sweep the whole second zone clean. He didn't know how long it would take him to loot every temple, but it shouldn't be more than another 5 days. His guildmates could fend for themselves for some time, and his future plans weren't on that much of a time crunch anymore now that the first couple of days had passed in gods domain.

That guess seemed to be pretty spot on as James spent the next 5 days clearing all the temples in the second zone. He didn't gain any new combat techniques this time, but he didn't really care about that anymore. You can only utilize so many combat techniques in battle, having too many would just leave the majority unused. He didn't raid the temples for combat techniques anyway, he was after God crystals, which James got plenty of, 720 to be exact, making his total a staggering 1,151.

Sitting a couple of miles away from the third zone James woke up from his rest, he had totally exhausted his physical and mental energy by constantly grinding for 8 days straight with barely any rests. Even now that he had rested James still didn't feel totally fine, but after one quick look inside his inventory, he felt all his exhaustion leave his body. Working that hard for a couple of days was truly nothing in comparison to all of the gains he had made.

Looking at his interface James also noticed that his nutrient solution had been refilled, which gave him some piece of mind. He had really been worried about it since it was almost empty when he took his rest, which could've been bad for the big boss fight. Luckily some of the staff must have noticed.

Thinking about the Nutrient solution James reminded himself to get to the greater world as quickly as possible. The reason was that the S-grade Nutrient solution just didn't cut it anymore, all of the commanders had reached the Mental strength master realm while he and Iron were in the Mental strength grandmaster realm, and all of them were stuck, even the other members who were close to reaching Mental strength Master where in the same boat. They had used the S-grade Nutrient fluids too much, it simply didn't have any effect beyond recovery anymore, and Life potions were too expensive on earth to make it worth purchasing them in the quantities he needed. James wasn't that upset over it though, that they had lasted this long was already a miracle. Normally it was impossible to even come close to the mental strength realm with only S-grade Nutrient fluids, talent really was something.

Feeling the pressure of the guards of the final temple James set his thoughts aside and focused on the human-sized golems holding longswords.

[Holy guardian Golem] (Golem, Mythic Rank)

Level 20

HP 50,000,000/50,000,000

Just by their aura and the way they moved, James could tell that all 5 of the Golems were at the fourth-floor standard, but only by a thin margin.

[holy aura]

[Void Walk]

Disappearing into the void James appeared only a fraction of a second later next to one of the Golems standing in the middle, it seemed that they couldn't detect him in the void, but once he left, they could pinpoint him instantly.

Seeing the silver blade already moving at him with unprecedented speed James had no choice but to block.

[Parry]

The Golems blade deflected, giving James some time to use one of his most effective combos.

[Firestorm]

[Lightning discharge]

-4,457,410

-2,602,753

Now that all the Golems were stunted for a moment James took this chance to shower one of them with as many holy sword lights as he could muster.

-1,963,754

-1,963,754

-1,963,754

Before any of them could even react the first one had already fallen. He couldn't use the same tactics as with the golems from the second zone, since these guys could somewhat keep up with him if they all worked together that is. So, James resorted to dodging their attacks, but for safety, he still put up a void shield.

Even though he was a pseudo-fifth-floor expert, James still started to feel rather tired and had a few close calls fighting these golems, so he decided to use some extra skills to quicken the process.

[Divine Steps]

36 clones of James appeared around all of the golems, making it much easier for him to distract the rest while he was focusing on 1 in particular. Thanks to that strategy he managed to slay the last one just before Holy aura ran out.

Just like all the times before James waited outside the temple for an hour for all of his skills to refresh, before taking one last deep breath and going inside.

The inside looked much like the temples in the second zone, only a little bigger and grander. The training zone was also relatively the same, the only difference where the divine engravings were much bigger in this one and looked more powerful overall.

Walking in James found a second big difference, the opponent that he was about to face wasn't translucent in the slightest. He looked like he was a god for real. Inspecting him James found that he was already suppressed, but that wasn't the biggest shock he got when looking at its stats.

[Primordial God of the sword] (Primordial God, [Tier 1])

Level 20

HP ???,???,???/ ???,???,???

James looked all over but he couldn't find any sign that this was a fake, a real God in a Tier 1 trial, he couldn't believe it. Even if this could be considered a God-grade difficulty trial, which he was pretty sure of, it was still ridiculous. It wasn't a normal Ancient God either, but a Primordial God, putting him up there with Cronos.

Just thinking about all of this made James's head hurt, for a Mental Strength Grandmaster that was quite something. Before he could even back away though he seemed to have frozen, unable to move. When he saw the Primordial God of the sword coming closer, he had basically already resigned himself, it was truly no use. He had no high-level mana body or a race matching the Primorials, he didn't stand a chance. In the future, once he had all of those things and had completely built his foundation, he was planning on standing far above them, but at the moment, he didn't stand a chance.

When James had already given in to his fate, instead of attacking him, the middle-aged swordsman spoke to him in a friendly tone while laughing a bit.

"Don't worry young man, my test isn't the same as the one before me. they were mere projections after all, killing me, a real Primordial, would not be possible even for most other Primordials, so why would I ask that of you, a Tier 0 swordsman? Even if you are one of the most outstanding ones I've seen."

Silence fell for a second and James sighed with relief, followed by a curiosity about what the test was. Before he could even voice his curiosity the God of the sword had already picked it up and started explaining.

"My test is purely about the sword, we will have a mock battle, and if I determine your skills with the blade to be satisfactory, you pass the test, and I will give you a personal reward. O, and to clear up a quick misunderstanding, this isn't a God-grade difficulty trial, it's a Primordial God-grade difficulty trial, 2 grades higher."

James was stunned, he had only ever heard of a God-grade difficulty, and that was already considered close to impossible to complete. Only young masters from apex factions who could get their hand on extremely rare legendary equipment that could be equipped from Tier 0 if you passed some of the other requirements could hope to complete that difficulty, but his is 2 grades higher?

The primordial God of the sword could already tell James was surprised and a little confused, so he kept explaining, he was so eager to keep talking in fact, that he didn't seem to have had a conversation with another human being for a long time.

"Yes, this is a Primordial God-grade trail. You have a legacy of one of the strongest Primordial Gods after all, so the 3 trials that you can attempt are God, Ancient God, and Primordial God, Cronos seems to have high hopes for you considering that he gave you a relic that let to a Primordial one. I can see where he is coming from though, your legacy contains such dense power, even in other Primordial Legacies, I've never seen something like this, it feels like u just straight-up consumed Cronos."

Hearing that James just awkwardly sniffled, technically he did consume Cronos after all. After that, though he got rather curious about other players wielding Legacies from Primordial gods, those would be big competition after all, and seeing that the God of the sword was in such a talkative mood he decided to just ask.

"Sir, are there many players who have legacies related to Primordial Gods?"

Hearing this the God of the sword raised his eyebrow while looking at James.

"Trying to get some info out of me, are we?"

Everything became deadly silent for a few seconds and tension hung around the air, but all of this went away a few seconds later when the man burst into laughter.

"HAHAHHA, you don't have to look so scared young man, that isn't secret info, it's just hard to come by, so there is no problem in me telling you. To answer your questing, there are 10 including you that I know of but expect there to be many more. Not all Primordial gods are in good grace with me after all, a lot of them would rather keep their disciples a secret from the others, you know, to protect them. And I'll add in some extra info, from all of the ones I know, your legacy and power, at Tier 0 at least, is far above the rest, so keep working hard."

Feeling that his curiosity had been answered James gave a slight bow towards the God before speaking.

"Thank you for answering all my questing, I think I'm ready to undergo your test."

The Primordial God of the sword turned around upon hearing this and made his way toward the end of the arena while saying some last formalities.

"Don't mention it, young man, Cronos is one of my oldest and best friends, and now that one of his students has come, not to mention a student that wishes to walk the path of the sword, how could I not do such a simple task as answer some questions. Now, let us begin, may the best swordsman win."
