Chapter 7: Chapter 7: Atlas

A small elderly man looked up at the sky, analysing the cosmic energies far in the distance.

"What are you here for old soul?"

His voice was rough yet somewhat melodic, a strange combination that made Raven feel a sense of familiarity.

"You can actually tell the age of my soul?"

The old man pulled on his beard with a light smile.

"This old man is quite experienced, I have met many travelers in my time but none of them are as strange as you."

"How so?"

"It feels as if you contain something foreign, something unfamiliar, something that should not exist yet does."

"That could be said of many people old man. Simply being different does not make me some type of monster. I am more human than you are."

"I never said you weren't human, simply that you are made of something different than others."

"And what would that be?"

The old man get up from his chair and beckoned Raven to walk alongside him.

"I have ventured deep into the creation of life. Through magic, many strange and peculiar things have been born, some even more bizarre than yourself. Even so, they all pale in comparison to the raw potential you have."

"You still aren't answering my question old man. What exactly is different about me?"

The old man paused and turned to Raven. His eyes seem to be mocking him but after a few seconds he changed his expression to one of annoyance.

"I'm just an old spirit that can't do anything, why won't you tell me what magic created your soul?"

'So he thinks it's magic. I thought he'd have a more profound perspective on the system.'

"You're a serious threat to me old man. I'm not telling you anything about me."

"Ah!"

The old man ran his hands through his tangled white hair in anger. In truth, Raven knew the old man wouldn't actually harm him.

When considering learning magic the first two people he thought of were master Makarov and this old fellow, Roubaul, the future leader of Cait Shelter.

Both of these old man were extremely powerful wizards in their hay day and had pleasant personalities. Makarov was a man who deeply cared about his family and guild members, treating them all as if they were his own children.

Roubaul on the other hand was a just man who greatly cherished peace and spent most of his life protecting people and stopping wars with his strength and inventions.

The reason Raven choose Makarov in the end was due to his identity as one of the 10 great wizard saints and because he leads Fairy Tail.

Roubaul, while powerful, has practically no identity at all. This is a time when Cait Shelter didn't exist and no one knew of a random spirit floating around this random spot being the mountain range up north.

No one knew of Roubaul and it would continue to be this way until Wendy and Jellal eventually showed up. Raven wanted protection from extremely powerful threats like Acnologia and Zeref, and only a wizard like Makarov could help him.

Roubaul was just a spirit, slowly fading away as the years went by and his soul lost its once great power.

Even so, Raven knew that Roubaul's refined skill in illusion magic would aid him greatly. That is the reason he still came here even after beginning his training with Makarov.

Illusion magic wasn't as simple as creating imaginary figures that appeared real. No, illusion magic at its peak could mimic life itself, creating physical beings that could breathe, eat, sleep, think and posses their own personality.

That is the level of skill Roubaul possessed, the ability to turn magic power into something physical that truly seemed alive in every sense of the word.

"Tell what secrets you have brat! I'll give you anything you want in return."

"Anything?"

"Well..."

Roubaul slightly hesitated as he looked Raven in the eyes. He knew that Raven was here for something, something that no one else could provide but him.

All of his weapons and inventions had already been destroyed by time. The only thing Roubaul had left were his memories and knowledge gathered over his lifetime.

"You want to learn magic from me?"

"Not exactly, I want to know everything you do. The magic you've learned, the information on relics and ancient magic items that you've uncovered, and most of all, the location of the last remaining dragons."

"That's a lot to ask for for young man. Are you sure you can pay the price?"

"Depends. What do you want in return, would you like me to destroy Nirvana?"

"No, no. You are not the fated one who will destroy Nirvana. But I'd like you to take care of another problem."

Roubaul flicked his fingers in the air creating a life like version of a demon.

It has a large fat bulbous body and dark red skin. It's hideous face contains eight eyes and two separate mouths. On top of it's head lay four horns that curve up then down like goat horns.

"This is the demon known as Atlas, the titan who once held up the sky. He's a terror that's been rampaging in the Guiltina continent for the past few hundred years."

Despite Raven's knowledge of the plot he couldn't remember any demon named Atlas.

"Is he one of Zeref's creations?"

"No, this monster was once a titan who ruled over most of Guiltina and Alakitasia along with the other members of the titan race after the demise of the dragon race."

"Interesting, how did such a being fall to becoming a mindless demon?"

"That is a question I also have. Although I don't know the answer there is an old story of Atlas and Chronos, the god of time. In it, it's stated that Atlas was cursed into becoming a demon by Chronos after failing to slay a dragon."

'So gods really do exist in this world. That means that besides Chronos, Ankhseram, Ikusatsunagi, Kemokemo, and Yagudo Rigōra are all also gods that exist in this world.'

'If there is a dragon that even a god wanted dead wouldn't that only leave Acnologia? It seems I've gravely underestimated the limit of this world.'
