Chapter 56: The war begins
Shortly after Commander Pixis' words filled everyone's heart with a motivating thought, the decoy mission began.
Groups of all soldiers were formed from the more than 1,400 troops that were on the outskirts of the Trost district.
When the decoy operation began, the group that would be in charge of that mission stood at the corners of the city wall. To act as decoys they could not hang too high, so at such a low height many titans could catch the soldiers in this operation if they were not careful, while of the titans felt they could catch them, all were not immune from risk.
As long as the titans are attracted by the crowds, most of those titans will gather at both corners of the wall. There was another group of titans that were not attracted by the crowds, so at least two hundred soldiers were divided into combat squads responsible for blocking the titans and making sure that Eren, who will be moving the rock in front, will not be affected.
Taking the elevator, Takashi went back up to the city wall and joined Ian, Rico, Matabi and the others.
Only three squads to protect Eren closely, no more than twenty people on the main mission of this whole operation. This battle would be very dangerous. At present, Takashi is much stronger than the current Mikasa. After all, he has a kind of strong aptitude and Chakra that was getting more and more powerful, but it could be said that his combat experience still remained between normal levels. After all, many of the most experienced soldiers had been in the scouting corps for years.
Although Takashi believed this wasn't for long, he didn't know why but he could mimic movements, skills and different ways to better maneuver his techniques in battle.
A perception that very few could have, he could feel his body asking for more of those intense emotions that could only be had on the battlefield.
Now, Takashi has used his three-dimensional maneuvering equipment along with his Chakra in ways that few would dare, so he has a lot of redundant actions to slice through titans. In short, he still has a way to go to become invincible.
Taking a deep breath, Takashi dismissed further thoughts and joined the three elite squad leaders, Ian, Rico and Mitabi. They had already led all the members of their squads to the wall.
Takashi called Mikasa and Eren as soon as possible. All in all, a group of no more than twenty people set off without hesitation.
It has been about half an hour since the decoy operation started to attract as many titans as possible. Now more than 200 titans have gathered at the city walls on both sides and equally as many soldiers who are carrying out the mopping up operation have already set out.
Now, many soldiers are dying and fighting directly against the titans.
Takashi, who was leading the march, looked at Eren, Mikasa and Ian and said: "Today's battle will be legendary for mankind, today it will be known whether it will be the end or a new beginning! Nothing else matters, just focus on doing your job well."
"Yes, sir!"
Many of the soldiers responded with motivation, most did not know Takashi who was the captain of this mission, but if Commander Pixis chose him, his skills would be the best.
The city wall is fifty meters high and almost twelve meters thick. You can ride a horse and obviously run. The mission cost in getting as close as possible to the Rock while running along the wall, Takashi didn't understand why they didn't choose to take horses, but considering that the mission should consist of total stealth, he didn't suggest anything.
Takashi ran forward at a regulated speed, Eren and Miaksa followed, Ian, Rico and Matabi also followed.
"So a top secret human weapon, as long as you can close that hole, we will protect you." Said a soldier in the group.
"Yes, sir." Eren replied.
Rico, a bespectacled female soldier, ran to Eren's left at high speed and said, "Let me tell you one thing, Eren Jaeger, during this mission more than one or two good comrades would die and they will die for you, they will be comrades of yours of higher or lower rank."
"Of course, everyone as soldiers is willing to die, but those people are more than just lifeless pawns. Everyone fighting today has names and families, and all the feelings that implies. Alisa, Dominic, Fine, Isabella, Tina, Jans, all of them are flesh and blood soldiers, some of whom have been with me since my recruiting days."
"Now, all my comrades are prepared to die for you. Now you have the responsibility to ensure that their deaths will not be in vain, no matter what happens, let your naive heart not forget that and be prepared to die for their lives."
With a dignified expression, Eren nodded and said, "Yes, I will, I definitely will!"
Although Eren wasn't sure, his determination was definitely resolute in getting the job done.
At this point, thinking carefully, Takashi reminded Eren as he ran, "Eren, it seems that you can't be fully conscious after becoming a titan, so before you decide to transform, remember to lift the stone! Seal the door! You must repeat these two sentences to yourself, start now."
Eren was stunned for a moment and looked at Takashi as he ran, "I see."
Since all these puzzling events happened, Eren noticed Takashi was a little different, but he definitely trusted him and started to repeat those two sentences over and over again in his mind.
Everyone did not say anything else. The group of no more than twenty members had already run to the corner where the decoy group was doing their job.
Many of the soldiers were hanging with their three-dimensional maneuvering equipment as they attracted the titans' attention.
He retracted his gaze and, at that moment, Captain Kitz, who was commanding the battle on the left side of the wall, saw Takashi's figure and shouted, "Takashi Ackerman, after this battle, if you still manage to survive, I won't bother you about my grievances anymore."
Takashi smiled slightly and thought, "Then you can watch from the wall! See how he hacked those ugly titans to death!"
Kitz snorted coldly, as he looked at Takashi's group he said nothing and remained in command of the battle. He didn't like Takashi, his supposed bodyguard, but like everyone else he hoped that the humans could win at least once, because this is his hometown, where he was settled most of his life.
Regardless of whether Takashi succeeds or fails, he has done the most dangerous thing and will not bother him again about what is now in the past.
Time passed minute by minute, in this the vanguard squads were almost near the top to the broken gate. This was the closest trip to the big rock.
Takashi ordered, "It's time to start!"
They all jumped off the city wall using the three-dimensional maneuvering equipment, quickly ran across the top of each building and quickly headed for the spherical boulder.
Eren used the three-dimensional maneuvering equipment to fly towards the large rock. As he flew into the air, he bit his palm.
"Boom!"
Lightning flashed, illuminating the entire city in an instant!
"Boom!"
The loud noise of a large object landing to the ground was heard, and a fifteen-meter tall titan, black hair, green and blue eyes, pointed ears like elves, and covered with strong muscles, appeared in the air and stood in front of the rock.
However, Eren apparently turned into a dazed titan, with no intention of moving the large rock.
"Eren..."
Miaksa shouted a few words, but Eren remained motionless. Mikasa then used her three-dimensional maneuvering equipment and yelled at Eren to move the boulder, but Eren seemed to be dead.
Takashi looked at all this expressionlessly, he knew it possibly wasn't easy. Early in the series, Eren was unfamiliar with his titan's power.
This was actually not a bad thing. Originally Eren had tried to hit Mikasa after he became a titan. If Mikasa had not reacted quickly to dodge, he would have quite possibly died.
This time, Eren simply did not move.
Mikasa returned to the roof and shook his head at the crowd, indicating that he had nothing to do.
At that moment, the soldiers of Mitabi's squad who were in charge of keeping watch in the vicinity, approached and hurriedly announced, "There are titans approaching on both sides!"
Rico said, "Takashi, we failed, we will have to leave it here, as I suspected, there is no secret weapon against the titans." Then, she was about to raise the gun to warn that there was an accident.
Takashi stopped her, "Wait, it is not certain that we have failed. Matabi, take care of the titan coming from the rear, Ian take care of the titan on the left. Mikasa and Rico sweep the titans down the path to the right."
Rico froze for a moment upon hearing the orders and said in disbelief, "Takashi, we have already failed. After Eren became a titan, he has remained motionless. Why do we still have to fight and die? it would be facing a meaningless death!"
With a cold expression, Takashi stared at the silver-haired woman, "I'll try to wake him up later, we have to eliminate the titans!"
With cold sweat on her forehead, Rico shook her head, "What if you can't wake him up? The probability is too low, we can't take the risk, let's retreat first."
Takashi looked at Rico and asked, "Where can we retreat, there is no retreat, we can't fail and I won't let them die in vain!"
"Tell me all of you, how will you reason with those titans? Those huge monsters can't understand human words, Eren can. Are you ready to surrender?"
"We have to fight! It's time to fight!"
As he said that, Takashi approached Eren in his titan form.
Rico was stunned for a moment, her expression struggling and she was very overwhelmed. Ian approached them and looked at her, "Let's execute the battle plan!"
"Ian, you too..."
Ian took a deep breath and looked calm, "I can see why Commander Pixis chose that cadet as the leader of this mission, that gleam in his eyes inspires me to keep fighting, Rico, how can we know we have failed without trying everything for victory?"
Rico was silent for a while, she looked at Matabi, who also didn't flinch. She reached out to tie the red rope tied with her glasses: "All right, men, go crazy! Squad two, let's take out the titan!"
Mitabi, the burly man, gave Takashi a deep look and smiled at his colleague Ian. "Ian, I used to underestimate you a bit, I won't talk nonsense, shall we celebrate for the dead our victory? Sure, if we still have bodies."
Before Ian could answer him, Mitabi led his squad members towards the approaching titan.
Ian looked at Takashi's slightly immature face, turned his head and advanced to sweep the titan without a word. Even a recruit has this kind of awareness, he won't stop today!
Takashi felt that he had gained knowledge, who said that the elite garrison troops were useless!
Mikasa hesitated and looked at Eren with concern.
Takashi said, "Go and help Ian! There are a lot of titans who just entered through the broken gate."
"But, Eren he..."
Takashi walked up to Mikasa and looked at her, "Listen, he's not a three year old, he's a soldier! You still have to worry about yourself!"
"I can assure you that he won't die unless I die!"
Mikasa looked at Takashi, she lowered her head a little and pulled up her red scarf, Takashi couldn't see her expression under her black hair, still she turned around and walked away silently.
"Don't die either."
Hey, this is really flattering coming from Miaksa, Takashi turned to the approaching titan.
"Whoosh!"
Takashi used his three-dimensional maneuvering equipment to fly towards Eren's back. He knew Mikasa couldn't wake Eren up, so he had to rely on other factors and that included his friends.
"They are all dying now, I can't do anything for them but what I can assure you is that I will fight for the future of this world and that includes all their families."
