Chapter 8: Chapter 08 : Lessons (2)
I and my friends walked into the transfiguration classroom. There was only Hermione and two other students while a cat sitting on a desk. I went toward the cat and said." Good Afternoon, Professor."
All of the students including my friends gave me a crazy look but soon their faces filled with amazement when the cat morphed into Professor McGonagall.
"Good Afternoon, Mr.Malfoy. You have quite keen eyes." She said.
"You are over praising me, Professor. Also, there are not many known Animagus. And a cat in a classroom is not common either." I said with a smirk.
I went to sit and one by one students started to show up.
"Transfiguration is the art of changing things into something else. It is one of the most powerful magics you will ever learn. If you are talented and hardworking, you will gain the power to turn into anything you like." Saying this she turned into a cat again.
At the same moment, Harry and Ron ran into the classroom. "Phew, Can You imagine McGonagall's face if we were late," Ron said while I was trying to hold my laughter. Then McGonagall turned into a human and walk right into their faces.
"That was bloody brilliant."
"Oh Thank you, Mr.Weasley. Perhaps I should turn one of you into a clock, that way least one might be on time."
"We got lost," Harry said.
"Perhaps a map then."
"Like I was saying Transfiguration is some of the most complex and dangerous
magic you will learn at Hogwarts. Anyone messing around in my class will leave and not come back. You have been
warned." Then she continued to explain about Transfiguration.
Then we were given a match to turn into Needle.
It was a little bit harder than turning a button into a rock. Changing material was easy but creating the needle head was quite hard. If you put too much magic it will be deformed and if you lose focus it won't transform at all.
After five minutes I was able to transform the match into a silver needle.
"Professor, I think I've done it," I said raising my hand.
McGonagall came to me and inspected the needle. "Nicely done Mr.Malfoy. Ten points to Slytherin."
"Now try to give it more details. Make it fancier."
She left, inspecting other students and advising them. I could see Hermione getting her fighting spirit high.
"Wow Draco, You are very Talented," Pansy said.
"Of course he is," Crabbe said proudly. I guess having a powerful gang leader made them proud.
"You both need to focus on your magic," I said.
After I tried to add more details to the needle. At the end of the period, I was able to give it golden stripes While only Hermione was able to make a difference.
While Flitwick introduced students to magic making it look easy, McGonagall gave a near-impossible task for most of the first years. It was a simple plan to make first-years interested in magic and encourage them to work harder.

After classes ended I decided to make myself familiar with the castle. There were a few abandoned classrooms in the Dungeons which I could use to practice magic. I was tempted to find Room of Requirement but I decided to check it later.
Somehow while walking I ended up in front of the library. I decided to take a look.
There were Thousands of books neatly stored on bookshelves. A witch who should be the librarian was sitting behind a table. She gave me a look and went back to reading her book. I walked to her and asked, " Is there a book for beginners in Charm?"
"twelfth shelf, right corner." She said. "Loud sounds, foods, and damaging books are not allowed in my library. If I found you doing one of these, you will never step in here again. And don't go to the restricted area it's not allowed."
I nodded and went to look for the book. I found a lot of beginner-level books in the area librarian pointed out. I picked a book name 'Way of the Charms - 1st volume' and went to a desk nearby. There was a familiar brown-haired girl reading a huge book.
I sat opposite side of her and started to read. Few minutes later I noticed a gaze on me.
"What?" I said looking at her.
"You never said you can do magic that better?"
"You never asked and you were great too."
"I could only turn the match into silver." She said in disappointment. "But, I find out this book about Transfiguration. Did you know Professor McGonagall was an Animagus? I just learned we can not just transform something, we can animate something too like giving intelligence to inanimate objects. I think it's brilliant."
" You need to start from the basics," I said. " Without strong fundamentals, it will become harder in the future ".
Or have a system like me but I was pretty sure she doesn't need one to master the magic.
After reading for an hour or so I returned to the common room. I was a little interested in the restricted area, I need to ask about it from Snape.
"Draco where were you? I was looking for you." Pansy said walking to me with two other girls.
"This is Tracey Davis and Millicent Bulstrode." She said noticing my questioning look.
"Nice to meet you," I said.
"Nice to meet you too." Both girls said
"I was just walking around by the way have you done the Herbology work?" I am not very good at Herbology even with the system. "Can I borrow it?"
"Only if you agree to help me with Transfiguration."
"Deal"
