She had broken up with him. 

I was caught in between throwing a party to celebrate, and grief. I can't lie and say I wasn't happy that Rhys was finally out of the picture, but seeing my sister so depressed was eating at me. She was trying her best to appear normal but the more she pretended to have moved on, the guiltier I felt for incessantly urging her to break up with him. 

I almost wished she could reconcile with him just to wipe the grief off her face. 

But when I remembered how much harm he was causing her by being with her as his paramour while keeping his engagement intact, I dropped that thought. It was better to nip this in the bud. The more time she spent with him, the more it would hurt when they inevitably broke up.
