Chapter 3: Potential
Hours turn to days and day turns to weeks. And in a blink of an eye, a full year has already passed. And with each night, Gohan's power has been growing exceptionally. Eventually, Gohan's potential was starting to become obvious to the Son Family. Especially to Goku.
Within those short months, Gohan started to reveal his talents, Learning how to communicate with his mother and father early on. Even forming complete sentences. Greatly shocking his mother and feeling a wave of pride.
But Gohan didn't stop there, as he even started learning how to properly walk! If Chi-Chi wasn't already proud enough, this sent her over the edge. Her pride and joy was already a genius!
It did help Gohan that alongside his natural fast growth, already knew how to properly walk and talk. His mind had the knowledge it was just that his body needed to catch up. It was just simply relearning what you already knew.
But that wasn't what caught Goku's attention. Course seeing his own flesh and blood growing right in front of him made him feel proud, but there was something else. Something that wasn't on the outside, but on the inside.
Goku could feel it. There was something hidden within his son, something so unfathomable that he couldn't even begin to imagine it. It was simply waiting there for the day to be finally released. And he wanted oh so desperately to help his son achieve that power. Help him unleash and control it.
Yet his wife wouldn't allow it. No matter how many times he asked and no matter how many times he begged, Chi-Chi would always just shut him down before he could even try to change her mind. Claiming that the time used for training could be used on more useful things. And that Gohan learning martial arts would be completely pointless.
Goku couldn't help himself but sigh in his head as he jumped out of the river. Holding a massive fish on top of him. "Sometimes Chi-Chi can be too overbearing about everything. It's just training. It's not like he can't learn to train and study at the same time. Just thinking about Gohan's potential going down the drain pains me".
He loved his son and just thinking about him not exploring an aspect of himself brought discomfort. He just wanted the best for him.
"Nimbus!" Goku yelled out and in a matter of seconds, a familiar yellow cloud flew down from the sky. Goku smiled as he jumped and held on tightly to the massive fish.
"It's time to go home"

After minutes of riding a magical cloud, Goku looked down high from above in the sky to see a small house in the woods. Seeing this, Goku jumped off the cloud with no worry whatsoever. Free falling before eventually landing perfectly fine like a cat.
"Thanks, Nimbus! See you later!" Goku yelled as he waved goodbye to his friend. Seeing the cloud fly off into the distance before eventually losing sight of it.
Seeing the cloud vanish from his sight, the Saiyan turned around and started making his way towards home. He was quite excited to see his wife and child again. He eventually stopped at the front door of his home, took a deep breath, and entered.
"Chi-Chi! I'm home!"
"Goku!"
Goku heard his loving wife screaming out his name and the next thing he saw was Chi-Chi running out of the corner before she gave him a big hug. Even though Goku wasn't gone for too long, he was her husband and she wanted to cherish every single moment they spent together. Along with her son.
Goku smiled as he returned the hug with a hug of his own "Hey Chi-Chi! Where's Gohan?"
"Gohan should be in his room right about now. He should be reading one of those study books that I gave him".
After completing the first year of his new life, Chi-Chi started buying some children's books so he could start early in his path of education and with Gohan's potential, he quickly picked up the skill. So ever since, Chi-Chi started buying some more advanced books for her son. And he was rapidly finishing each book she gave him.
Hearing this, Goku nodded his head and walked towards the small kitchen. Quickly placing the massive fish down on the table as he has done many times before.
"Gohan! I'm home!" Goku yelled out to his son. Trying to get his attention. Hearing what Chi-Chi said earlier brought down Goku's mood a little. He wasn't sad that Gohan was studying but was sad Gohan's schedule would be filled with nothing but studying all the time. Meaning there wouldn't be a chance for Gohan to train. Not that Chi-Chi would let him.
It seems Gohan's destiny was to become a great Scholar after all.
*Thud, thud, thud, thud*
Goku and Chi-Chi heard small pitter-patter coming down the hallway and the cause would be found out quickly as a small child would run out of the hallway corner. The tiny boy was wearing a small white tank top and green pants.
The boy smiled seeing his father "Dad!"
Goku smiled seeing his son once again. He opened his arms wide. Expecting his son to jump into his arms but was caught off guard by Gohans next words "Wait dad! I got something to show you!"
Goku, alongside Chi-Chi, was confused. What did Gohan want to show his father? They would soon find out as both their jaws drooped with shock at the sight they were witnessing.
Gaining the attention of his parents, Gohan slowly inhaled and slowly gathered his ki. His feet slowly levitated from the ground and in one quick motion, Gohan was high up in the air! Touching the ceiling! Deciding to show off a little more, Gohan started to fly around the room. And after a bit, Gohan flew into his father's chest and gave him a hug. Looking at him with a big smile "What did you think dad!?"
"G-G-Gohan! When did you learn to fly!?" Goku asked with complete astonishment on his face. When did his son get to that level?
"Every time I was done studying the books that mom gives me, I would sometimes observe you training outside the house! So when I'm alone, I tried to do those same moves! Until one I tried to do that big yellow blast you did one day. Suddenly, I felt something within my chest, and when I tried to do the move, I fired a small ball out of my hands! Ever since then, I've been trying to learn how to use that weird power within me. Then one day, I figured out how to fly!" Gohan said as he explained to his father. And he wasn't lying about it either. Well, adding a few details in there but he was mostly telling the truth. Sometimes when he wasn't studying or enjoying being a kid again, he would observe his father training. Seeing this, he would add those moves into his training regiment. Further increasing his gains.
"Wait Gohan! Are you saying that been training in secret all this time!?" Goku, who was trying to process all of this, could get out a single sentence.
Gohan nodded his head in response " Yep! I have been training to surprise you!"
"Because I want to become the strongest in the world! Just like you dad!"
Goku hearing all of this, his face turned from surprise into astonishment! He was extremely happy hearing his son making all this progress all on his own. Not only that but hearing his son actually invested in becoming strong just like him sent goku over the moon!
"Hhehe! Alright than! How about we start you're training? If you want to become strong then we got to start your training early!"
Gohan when he heard this became ecstatic! This is what he had been working for this entire time! With his father's assistance and guidance, he'd be able to gain proper training and gain more experience in proper KI control! Gohan nodded with excitement all over his face!
While Gohan and Goku were excited about the upcoming future, they seem to have forgotten somebody as Chi-Chi just stood there watching the pair. Her face was completely red with rage. Quickly, the father and son noticed that there was something wrong. As if there was an imbalance in the world. They found out instantly as they turned their head to see Chi-Chi staring right into their souls and their faces went into an "aw crap' look.
"ABOUSULTY NOT!" Chi-Chi yelled at the top of her lungs. she screamed so hard that the house even started to shake.
"But Chi-Chi!" Goku tried to retort but quickly shut up as she gave him a dangerous glance.
"DON'T GIVE ME THAT "BUT CHI-CHI" SCHMICK GOKU! I TOLD YOU TIME AND TIME AGAIN NO! YET IT SEEMS THAT IT CAN'T GET THROUGH YOUR MINIATURE BRAIN! I DON'T WANT GOHAN TO HAVE THE SAME LIFE YOU HAD WHEN GROWING UP! HE DESERVES TO GROW UP LIKE A NORMAL CHILD AND DESERVES A HAPPY LIFE! I DON'T WANT HIM TO GROW UP LIKE A MUSCLE-BOUND THUG WITHOUT A BRAIN! LIKE HIS FATHER!"
"THAT'S ENOUGH MOM!"
Suddenly Chi-Chi, who was in a fit of anger, quickly lost her temper. Quickly became surprised as she turned her head to see her own son talk back to her! Who had a serious look on his face.
Gohan in his past life was tired of his mother's constant nagging into his father's ear all the time. In the anime, it's constantly played off as a joke for the viewers to laugh at but it just made Gohan more annoyed than anything else. In this life, he wasn't going to let shit go any longer.
"Mom I understand why you want me to study but this is something I want to do. You've seen me finish multiple books already. I can train while studying at the same time It's not that hard".
"Give me a chance you prove it to you. Besides, weren't you a martial artist as well? You used to tell me all the time the story of how you and dad met and married at the world tournament. So why can't I learn when you did a long time ago?"
Chi-Chi just stood there trying to get a response out of herself but couldn't. She knew Gohans words were right. Martial arts Is what connected herself to Goku in the first place and Gohan has been doing great in his studies.
Even though she was hesitant she couldn't help herself but sigh. If this was something he wanted to do then who was she to stop him? "Okay, okay I'll let you train with your father. But you must promise me that you'll keep studying! If I find you slacking off then no more training! Got it!?"
Finally getting his mother's approval, Gohan nodded his head in excitement "Thanks, mom! I promise!"
Seeing everything worked out in the end, Goku laughed as he rubbed his son's hair. "Hey, Gohan, the sun's still out so why don't we start training immediately?"
"Yeah!" Gohan yelled out in agreement. The sooner he started his training, the better.
Seeing this, Goku smiled and still carrying his son, rushed out of the house. Excited to immediately start his son's training.
Chi-Chi just stood there as she witnessed her husband and son running off. She walked towards their window and just watched her two boys beginning to do some light training. She didn't realize until she saw her reflection that she was smiling.
"Maybe I was a little too harsh. It's just training after all. It's not like the earth would be in danger anytime soon. Even then my Goku will easily defeat anything that comes his way" Chi-Chi commented to herself as she watched the boys a little more before she went into the kitchen. She knew they would be extremely hungry so she might as well start getting food ready.
Outside the house, Gohan was finally getting some training from his father. With somebody to learn from and train with, Gohan's power began to steadily grow over time. Reaching levels of strength he never would have achieved on his own with just nightly training.
And in a blink of an eye, 3 years have already passed.
