Chapter 2: Ch 2: The Plan

As anyone else would do I also prepared for the trials ahead and began studying everything I thought could help me some of them went over my head and helped me narrow down the areas of my interests quite easily

Like every average individual in the city, I went to the school in Celadon city which was named just that. While not a bottom-list school it wasn't anything to be proud of either but while certain subjects were still the same the focus of most of these had greatly changed because of the pokemon variable

Honestly I was greatly interested in biology and computer subjects in school and I also with the help of both teachers and Psy finally made my handwriting look better but maths remained a hard one for me even now

But the simulated battles alongside lectures from reputable individuals made school interesting these days and I paid great attention to the law and history of this society I was now part of. This was mainly to not be an ignorant fool and avoid getting into troubles

But while school continued on I planned because I did not think that I had any sort of fabled armour or system coming my way. At first I wanted to believe that I could earn at least the top 10 rank in the exams and earn a Pokedex and even dreamed of getting into the top 3 and getting the royal starter

But as I started studying what I realized was that while I could arguably say some things greater than most kids there were still some things that I didn't have any idea about

Did I know how to evolve Growlithe? Yes, but how to take care of it? What is the optimal nutritional plan for it? In things like that, I was sorely lacking knowledge. So I started working on it, asked questions to my teachers, neighbors and just about every adult I deemed smart enough to answer my questions

As we know professor Oak gives three starters to the top three scorers in the trainer exam, in the game that was not that bad because we were automatically one of the three. Here though that was a very sought-after opportunity

All three starter Pokemon were beasts that were suitable to be a cornerstone of your team.

Blastoise is one of the strongest pure water types in the world, while this turtle may not be the fastest on land or water it remains a tank capable of taking hits and dishing it out greater at its opponents and its diverse moveset only sweetens the deal further

Venusuar with it being a grass-poison dual type pokemon is an excellent pokemon for controlling the field with it's moveset and it might not be that good at taking hits compared to Blastoise but is still is far better than other grass types

Charizard is the widely popular one for many reasons aside from it's appearance. Charizard is often considered a psuedo dragon because of it's sheer potential in aggressive combat, and also because of their prideful behaviour and it also is a flying type which is of great importance both inside and outside battles

So needless to say everyone is gunning for those three spots and as for acquiring the starters other ways will either cost you a leg and arm or the blessing of lady luck, both of which I'm not exactly sure about

I'm not giving up of course, but I'm more accepting of the fact that I am not guaranteed to become the top three but I have to ensure that I score high enough that I can apply for a chance at using his ranch for my future pokemons because that is the real prize as far as I'm considered

The fact that I remember certain places I could get the three royal if I'm that desperate had a slight impact on that as well. But such is life, it gives you lemons you make lemonade with it

Since the professor can't very well provide every rookie with their starters the other options are the league-offered starters, these pokemon won't be as rare or of potential as the royal three but they will be trainer friendly and some gym leaders even give out pokemon of other regions if you impress them, though that is much more depending on luck

To me that's Erika and from what I was able to gather the pokemon she has provided so far are Pidgey, Vulpix, Doduo, Oddish and Bellsprout every time and when there was a migration last year she offered Murkrow and Roselia and there are times when she was able to provide Tangela as well.

No disrespect to any of these pokemon but these are not the ones I want to start my journey with, aside from Vulpix, Roselia, Murkrow, Pidgey and Tangela the others aren't made for competitive battling, and from the five that can only three is given out usually

Vulpix is a great pokemon with Ninetails being a fire type and will be a great starter, Pidgey might be a common pokemon but Pidgeot is an awesome bird at the end of the day and Tangrowth is one of the best grass-type competitive pokemon in Kanto

And I would have considered each of them as a pretty great choice if I hadn't remembered where I was living and the pokemon present in the forest surrounding this city

As those who have played the game can remember the city has two entrances, one from the east via Route 7, and one from the west via Route 16 with Route 7 connecting Celadon to saffron and route 16 connecting with route 17 with it being cycling route as well

And you know what I have? ' A psychic type pokemon of a police officer that specified in identifying and teleportation!! ' At least that's what I have learned from Psy and the officers that come to the home sometimes

They aren't that much of friends with my parents as most of my dad's friends were in his squad which died just as dad did, but they come anyways so I treat them nice but mom's friends are the ones that mainly come

Well mainly two people come, One is a gym trainer named Dianne, and Ramsay is the gym referee and I'll admit both of them care about me much more than the officers that come out of obligation

Dianna is a very nice woman but lords above she is a loud and bubbly person, honestly I prefer Ramsay more because he's a chill guy but both of them encourage me in being a trainer and even take me out of the city for picnics when they have time

But as I was speaking there is one pokemon around these forests that I would like to be my starter, honestly speaking there are two but the second one are pack animal so the optimal choice is the first one

The two pokemon I'm talking about are Abra and Growlithe. Both pokemon are extremely good for competitive battling and don't have that much of attitude problems, sure they grow slowly but that's why I'm planning on making an early connection with one of them and the only problem is that they will require a few extra steps to reach their final stage

Obviously I can't catch them in a Pokeball but if they decide to chill in the backyard then arguably I could make a case that we were friends and were planning on starting a journey. Is it a foolproof plan? No, but even if I fail I would be back at step one which Is something that this won't change anyway ' At least I hope it won't '

I actually prefer to befriend an Abra if I can purely because of the fact that it's an intelligent creature who will be able to understand me more clearly than a Growlithe will, this is mainly so that I won't have any issues in training because they did not understand what I was speaking about

' And I doubt that Growlithe will be happy if it can't run around once in a while '

Well all I had to do now was convince Psy into doing this with me and I was all ready for it, I mean I planned a speech, printed out statistics and went the whole mile in my preparations

But Psy agreed as soon as I told him why I wanted to do this, apparently Psy wasn't keen on letting me go out with a pokemon that I hadn't made a bond with or was able to defend myself with

Hell Psy told me the plan was on making me stay for 3 months so that I was up to snuff

But there was a change in plans, well a slight change as Psy said that we couldn't really feed pokemons in our current situation so Psy said that we should look for a growlithe because Psy could catch a Pidgey or Magikarp and be done with it instead of foraging for berries

But I pointed out both were pretty much the same effort for a pokemon of Psy's level and that argument was closed without much satisfaction on both side

So the very next day we set out and when we finally entered the lush forests teeming with life that was surrounding route 7, Psy started scanning around for the pokemon we were looking for and even speaking with the pokemon we met for possible locations

Psy was even challenged three times but none of them was a match to Psy so there wasn't any trouble but the Pidgeotto Psy defeated said that the pack had already entered deep into the forests which both Psy and I had agreed to not venture into

And that was for a good reason as those parts were absolutely dangerous on a good day. Why? ' remember all those pokemon you can see outside these forests and near the edges, deep inside the forest is where their evolved counterparts live '

They all lived inside because as these pokemon are strong and dangerous they were driven deep into the forest by the league as that would ensure lesser bloodshed and as all these top of the food chain lived in the same place, their instincts and skill were very efficient in hunting

Thus we agreed to not piss off these pokemon on the general principle of not being a dumbass

Oh and I promised myself that I would not capture a pokemon that wouldn't thrive with me or didn't want to come with me. Because that would bring even more trouble in the future

So while the Pidgeotto was healing itself using roost ' Which is awesome by the way ' I negotiated with it. I asked it if It could do things two things for me in return for training matches with Psy

1. I wanted it to see if it could get word out to the pack on the fact that I wanted to ask if there was a member of the pack who was interested in being with a trainer and I told pidgeotto to make it clear that it was their choice.

2. I wanted to put a similar word out to the members of the abra line as well

3. I asked it if it knew flocks that were migrating and if it could put out these words to certain avian pokemon they had a chance to meet as well

While it agreed on the first two terms it made it clear that the third would have to be spoken with a flock leader and since the third was kind of a wild shot I agreed and asked If it could introduce these flock leaders next time we met in 5 days as it spread my request

And after introducing itself as Talon the Pidgeotto left, after which Psy boxed my ears in as this was not the plan we made but I made up a few points that actually sounded better

This was better as wild pokemon would rather hear things from another wild pokemon than a pokemon standing by a humans side

It probably knew this forest better and this way we didn't have to search for the two pokemon lines and if both of these pokemon lines didn't wish to join me in which I would have to adapt a new plan we wouldn't have wasted that much time

It could polish the rust of Psy's skills and even get stronger at a suitable pace and would enable me to see how battles are truly fought between pokemon

And as for the flock leaders, I was going to offer the same deals we had given to Talon for their underlings as well as an attempt to teach the flock leaders technique that they could learn from Psy

' I remember that rest could be learned by the Pidgey line at least and I believe since Sleeptalk is included in that package '

But that was a long time project as the migration that would take place in two months normally returns after 14-15 months if everything went well or close to 2 years as the maximum ' But hey that's cool '

But hey that's what the internet is for, so I'll research the training methods, moves and strategies for both Pidgey and Spearow lines

' Just in case '

And print out images of the Talonflame line, Staraptor line, Corviknight line and Togekiss and also resolved to talk about my great acceptance of most dragon pokemon that was interested in the deal and to see if they could be persuaded to carry those baby pokemon of certain lines I was interested in, only if those baby pokemon was also interested in me

' Though I can already say that the last point won't be accomplished with the current benefits I'm providing but it doesn't hurt to try '
