Chapter 8: Starting Off
After the Introductions were finally carried out the group dispersed as they no longer had anything to add to the discussion or even change it. As an agreement was reached between the group before they remembered the importance of manners, the only thing left to do, Ironically enough was to leave
The flock flew away after the group decided to start the training sessions from the next week onwards. An agreement that would help both sides out in the long run
The pack also left after assuring that they would find a pup who could live with Eric, of course they also said the whole ' or else ' thing, but that's just them being protective so that didn't sadden Eric or Psy
While the pup would only arrive at their home the next week didn't mean that they didn't have new housemates. The abra duo were joining their humble home today
' Hopefully joining the team as well ' I could hope, no?
Anyway, Psy helped the Abra duo with the location and all of us were quickly teleported home. As I watched the Abra duo gaze at the house I motioned at Psy to get a few more berries for them
While the Abra duo was intelligent they apparently had not chosen their names. In their own words " We do not wish to regret our names due to lack of wisdom " Which pretty much said they didn't want to jump the gun
I admit that I had some names in mind as one does, but that's only if they ask me or are interested in it in the first place.
' Maybe they won't grow up to like names, it can happen '
But it's going to be a little difficult as Abra doesn't have much to differentiate between males and females in their appearance. I actually believed that both of them had advanced telepathic capabilities and communication wouldn't be a problem.
' But I was sadly and unfortunately mistaken '
Apparently, while they were intelligent enough to speak, they did not have the power capacity to do so and they were only able to speak so clearly because Psy shared energy
This checks out as first-stage pokemon no matter how intelligent it is should not be able to communicate so clearly, especially when they are young. Most experienced pokemon in the first stage can at most share a certain word or nudge via telepathic power
That problem can be somewhat overcome as Psy is here, but Psy will soon have other things to do.
I remembered that there was a certain island called Fairchild island in which the pokemon grew larger, not large enough as their giant gene counterparts but larger nonetheless. It was theorised by the fans that the food source was the reason for this change
And as I have several new companions to feed I need food and if by some chance this island's source could boost my pokemon, then I'm taking a gamble
However, it should be noted that Fairchild island is protected by the league and the pokemon that inhabit the island are uncatchable as far as the law is concerned. Which did prove the issue difficult when I spoke about it with Psy initially, but I made him realise that I was more interested in berries and fishes
' Granted I don't know that much about gardening and it won't work like in the games, but I have to try it '
Psy agreed somewhat reluctantly, especially as he wasn't strong enough to teleport there in one shot and had to make stops on the way
That did throw a wrench into my plans but It had to be done. But that did not mean the work was done as there were still some things to be done at home. As Psy wasn't available to help me, I had to do it by myself. But that could also be considered somewhat physical training so I am not complaining
The first thing I did was instruct the duo on what to do when they were awake
" Abra have to sleep 18 hours a day, which leaves us only six hours to train. The first thing we do is to adjust your sleep cycle in a way that will let you be awake at a time when I can assist you " After much consideration and deliberation we decided that these 6 hours should be from noon to evening
' I have school and none of us is fond of losing sleep without gain '
" Now we have 6 hours of training. I want you to focus on bettering your capacity and control first and for that, I need you to work hard enough to be completely exhausted when you fall asleep"
At this they nodded at me, taking it as a good sign I explained further
" We will change some exercises after each of you can actually be experienced enough to see what type of combat suits you "
' Because psychics have many options. They can abuse their opponents via mind or with the environment or with techniques. All three are okay with me '
So for their current training, I divided it into three sessions. The first section was about control. Here I wanted them to use their telekinetic power to enclose a fistful of water in their psychic energy and basically play catch.
' I originally planned on them using a ball but this way is even better and the amount of water can increases as we move forward '
The second section was power, what mattered in this session was the intensity of the powers and the force behind each action should be large. This can be accomplished by simply expelling large amounts of energy in a burst or teleporting something
' I included teleporting after realising that there had to be a certain energy requirement for the teleportation to occur. The larger the matter the more energy consumed, and I've got a pool filled with water. This way their teleportation can also be refined, Psy volunteered for this session '
The third session is called the suicides, this should only be done in the last hour. I want them to try their best to create and maintain a barrier. It doesn't have to enclose them yet, but a bigger size would be appreciated.
My plan for this was really simple, you remember the sealing barriers in Naruto and the perfect cube of Merlin from seven deadly sins... that's it
' Imagine training a barrier to the point that it naturally acts like the move Protect. That's invaluable in attack and defence ' I can't help but shiver in anticipation as I think this
The Abra duo were similarly greatly interested in the effects of the third session, Psy even said that "it would be a genius move if it worked". So naturally, I'm excited
On the very first day the Abra duo came, Psy had to leave to get things and I could not but think that wasn't an auspicious sign. But Psy reminded me it was my plan in the first place so I didn't have a leg to stand on
So I bade a temporary bye to Psy the next day as he left to gather the requested materials, though I really hope that he doesn't forget the points I made on a certain fish
The discussion about berries went fine, I could even say that it went great as Psy had some personal experience with identifying certain berries and was knowledgeable about them. It was the fish part where we had trouble
It started like this
" So the seeds and berries without causing harm to the ecosystem " Psy said in a calm tone
" Yep " I nodded along
" And Magikarps for the pond "
That is when I had to stop him
" No. No Magikarp, if you only find Magikarp's then don't bring them "
My face is absolutely stern as I say this, well as stern as could make my face
Psy is plainly confused by my refusal about the Karp as he audibly asks me
" The Magikarp will be easier to manage, their low intelligence will allow for more control over them "
" Yes, but Magikarps evolve to Gyarados. An evolution that can occur with panic, I don't want to deal with mass evolutions, do you? "
Psy just looks at me while speaking in a mocking tone
" While your caution for Gyarados is acceptable, your caution for Magikarp is not. Our pool can hold at most a dozen Magikarp, 3 more if the size is the same as usual. Mass evolution will not happen as long as there is no visible danger to them, their mind has to panic. With enough caution you have about them, they will not evolve as long as you do not do anything stupid "
" I still think it's an unnecessary risk " And I'm sticking with it
" And what is your preferred choice? "
" Goldeen. Both forms can be contained "
" How so? "
" Gyarados can breathe without water. Goldeen or Seaking cannot "
He visibly hums before relenting, not before retorting one more time that Magikarp can be managed without trouble but he does accept my words so that was my concern addressed
Armed with objectives, well wishes and personal opinions Psy left for Fairchild island with a map and an incubator we had. I mean he can't make it in one try so it's best if he brings eggs and fish eggs can be of very small size and thus easier to transport
' I wonder why the egg size differed. I shouldn't because that's what logic dictates but still... '
After I bid farewell to Psy, I began to clean the pool which didn't take that long as we maintained it better thanks to Psy. Then I went and ordered an underwater breathing mask for the pokemon.
The company's entire site had specified options highlighted, which would have been nice if I didn't lack money. But I had to be conscious about my spending and as such, I decided to buy only mouth covering mask with a tank instead of a full face mask
It is as I went to the purchase section that I stumbled upon another gem. The ad proving the device's capability had underwater shoots but it also showed a few seconds of a large tube filled with water where Audino waved
' That would be incredibly useful '
Originally I was planning on using the pool divider we have when we start pressured underwater training and the tubs for non-pressured training.
However, if I could buy a few of these then that would be better
I immediately searched the rates of these things after purchasing 5 masks. The mask themselves were expensive, so I obviously can't buy the tanks this month or even next month but it never hurts to know the exact price we need
Unsurprisingly the tank was pricey, pricey enough that I could buy one more mask before reaching the price for two of them. This was not ideal
When I reached that conclusion that I could not afford this product as any child raised in the twenty-first century would do, I looked for alternative products. I made the tank smaller and looked for suitable replacements, after looking at many products no less pricey I relented and looked in the five-minute crafts for inspiration on how to tackle this problem
And I got it
' Some people might ask why a kid needs a tank. But not an aquarium, and a wall aquarium of suitable size should do the work. Granted there will be questions there as well, but I'm sure I can try something to make it more believable. '
But I'm reminded again, that you need a license to own a pokemon and that included fish like pokemon as well
' Well there goes the aquarium idea, guess we're back to square one '
I'm sure something will come to me and even if it doesn't the divider can still be used
After that, I went to the Celadon gardening shops closest to me and brought two bags of soil, I don't know if it will be a difference but we have to try every combination, right?
I also brought something that I knew would make a difference, fertilizers. After watching many videos I somewhat knew how to make a garden bed, at least somewhat correctly and I accomplished my mission after an hour or so. It also made me break out in a sweat, which immediately let me know that I had to exercise more
' I mean I have to trek mountains and grasslands after three more years, I can't get tired just making a garden bed. '
I kept that thought in my head as I attempted the Saitama routine and stopped halfway through thanks to the sheer exhaustion I felt. Even the embrace of bed as I slipped into dreams could not let me rid my sorrow of knowing that I didn't complete the routine even after taking too long intervals. The fact that I had to do this every day from now on to get in shape also soured my mood
