Chapter 14: The Cult of Sin

Humans were poweful beings blessed with the ability of will and the freedom of thought. Yet that very freedom of thought was the cause of many conflicts within the course of human history. From minor disagreements to the world wide wars, and now faced with the threat of extinction, humans remain the same.

Some humans have taken their freedon of thought so far that they believed that the Sins were sent by the one true God. And thus another conflict came to be.

The first appearance of the Cult of Sin began a decade after the manifestations of the Sins. Powered humans that preached that the Sins were supposed to be the punishment of humans for having lived as Sinners. They claim that the appearance of the Sins were in accordance to the holy scriptures and that God had sent them to punish the humans rightfully.

The Powered Government had silenced them, such dangerous thoughts were deemed illegal and would require mental correction, and if required, through physical means.

Through this they dwindled in number, and yet they only seemed to grow more ferocious.

After five decades they began to organize themselves. Targeted attacks on the LSP's military headquarters occurred, each one more devastating than the last, and yet they got away with it everytime. After an attack they would disappear from the grid, as if they were wiped out from the surface of the Earth.

With the humans defending against both enemies from outside the wall and within, it took decades until they neutralized the threat of the Cult of Sin. With the help of Omni Hanks, the founder of the Last Hope, they located their headquarters and prompty made sure that the Cult of Sin and their beliefs died on that day four decades ago.

And yet here Hanzel was, with blood splattered all over his body staring at a member of the cult, a bloodied man restricted in front of him with power numbing restraints.

This man had posed as a drunkard and infiltrated the police barracks through his power of Shadow Molding, presumably with the goal of sabotaging their firearms, as when the City of Angels Police Force arrived at the armory all the weapons were broken apart.

But that wasn't what maddened Hanzel to this extent.

When they opened the metal doors that led to the armory, when he saw what waited for him on the other side, his mind shut down.

He took the body of his child and ran towards the nearest healer to stabilize his son's condition. However, they couldn't fix his face until they arrived at the nearest hospital.

"We can fix his face, but the process of his face returning to its previous form will hurt. I'm sorry but there's no other way." A nurse explained, "We'll have to forcefully mold his muscles and bone structure back to normal."

"Anything, anything as long as he lives!" Hanzel pleaded,

Then he watched. The process of his son's sunken face returning to normal was a gruesome sight for a father. It made Hanzel realize how deep his son's face was smashed in. His eyes lost their glimmer at that moment.

When the doctors were done and placed Sicarius on his own room, Hanzel had this dull look. His son was alive, and yet he had to live with such a painful experience forever.

It's my fault.

That thought repeated itself inside Hanzel's mind, until he received a phone call; the culprit had been detained. He said his goodbyes to his wife and proceeded to go to the police barracks.

The man in the power numbing restraints was severely injured. His limbs were bent in ways that shouldn't be, and his face was beaten so badly you would mistake it as having been ran over by a truck, multiple times.

This was due to the man not being cooperative, all he would say were insults, and praise regarding the Cult of Sin. Hanzel had 'no choice' but to force him to talk, repeatedly.

"The Cult of Sin will never perish!" The man yelled, which got him hit by a steel bar.

His teeth flew off from the impact and yet the man was laughing. He stared at Hanzel with mockery in his eyes, and it seemed that the more furious Hanzel was, the funnier it was for him.

"You know, I saw a kid down there, he looked just like you," the bloodied man said, "Atleast, until I smashed his face in!"

Then the man howled in laughter, as if what he said was the punchline to some sick joke.

His laughter didn't last long, as Hanzel hit the man's face with his steel bar once again. With his power of physical amplification, one could only wonder how the bloodied man's head was still attached to his chest.

"Tell me something useful before I kill you." Hanzel said,

"Its useful to know that I met your son--"

Hanzel's steel bar made contact with the man's face, a sickening crunch reverberated within the room.

"Commander, he's near death." The vice commander spoke behind him. "There's no need for this, I can simply traverse his mind."

Hanzel's steel bar was dripping with blood. His hands held on it tightly as he glared at the bloodied man.

"I know my limits, Jason, "Hanzel said in a low voice alike a growl, "Do you think I have no control over my emotions?

"No, commander." The vice commander replied, his eyes watching Hanzel cautiously.

Hanzel was silent as he took slow heavy steps to the bloodied man in front of him. The bloodied man could barely lift up his head to return Hanzel's glare.

"Search his mind, don't leave any memory unturned," Hanzel ordered as he let go of the steel bar. It landed on the floor with a clang.

"Yes, commander." Jason replied,

Hanzel backed from the bloodied man and Jacob went forward to place his palms on the bloodied man's head.

A blue glow emanated from Jacobs body and after a minute his eyes widened. The bloodied man suddenly laughed, he eyed Hanzel with a taunting grin and shouted,

"THE CULT OF SIN WILL NEVER PERISH!"

Jacob fell to the floor and Hanzel watched as the bloodied man begun secreting acid through his skin. He opened his mouth wide and acid vomit launched onto them.

Hanzel tossed Jacob away as he dodged the vomit himself. It landed on the floor, secreting an acrid odor as it ate through the ground.

As if not immune to the acid, the bloodied man's body started dissolve. His limbs that were restrained had separated from his body, causing it to land on the floor with a wet thud. The man had killed himself, and yet the anger in Hanzel's heart did not subside.

"I'll take care of the body." Hanzel said, "Mobilize all idle men for lookout, they took out our firearms. An attack is most likely. Focus all invetigative efforts on the Cult of Sin."

"Yes, sir!" Jacob quickly shuffled back to his feet and ran out the door. Leaving Hanzel looking at the dead body in deep thought.

Unless the rest of the Cult of Sin was like this corpse under his feet, he wouldn't rest. Only after that could he forgive himself for what happened to his son.
