Chapter 2: Chapter Two

Williams was confused.

He doesn't have anywhere to go.

He had no parents.

Aunty Sarah had been the one taking care of him right from time.

What is he to do?

"I did not even have a friend that can accommodate me in this situation now."

"I will go back to ask for forgiveness from aunty Sarah."

"What are you still doing here?"

Aunty Sarah shouted.

"You ought to have left this house by now."

"But aunty I don't have anywhere to go to" he cried.

"Have mercy on me and I promised not to do this again."

"No, Enough is enough," she shouted.

"you either go back to your parents if you have one or you turn back to where you were coming from."

Aunty Sarah went to his room.

Packed some of the worn-out clothes Williams wears in a bag and threw them out of the room.

"Leave now", she shouted.

"I won't tell you this again."

Williams began to cry.

He thought his aunt would change her mind not until he carried his bag outside the gate and no one called him back.

He was downcast.

What will I do? he asked himself.

He moved sluggishly to the nearby building which has no one in it and sat there quietly.

He didn't go to school that day and certainly, he won't go to school again.

He sat right there in the building and was thinking about his miserable life.

He was so little to be alone.

His aunt sent him out of her house with nothing.

Not even with food.

He had no hope for food for that day.

He stayed in that building throughout the rest of the day.

Towards the evening,

he gathered some pieces of cartons he found around the corner,

Put it together and lay on it.

He found it hard to sleep that night.

Whenever he closes his eyes, he began to see strange things.

Is it because he was there all alone? He asked himself.

He stayed awake for some time and later slept off.

When he woke up, he saw some marks on his right hand.

He was surprised.

"When did I touch coal?"

The mark was made with coal

He tried to clean it to no avail.

He began to wonder what might give him this indelible mark.

He made to turn around the room to check if someone was with him there.

He saw nobody but only a plate of well-grounded food beside where he lay.

He became more confused.

"Did someone sleep here with me last night?"

He asked no further questions when the aroma of the food slightly entered his nose.

The hunger in him arose and became severe.

He rushed the plate of food quickly and immediately without even bothering to know who brought the food anymore.

He ate as one who hasn't seen or eaten any food before.

He emptied the plate and kept it at one end of the room where he was.

He looked around the room for the first time after he was done eating to confirm if someone was there.

"Who brought this food to me since no one is here with me?" he asked

"Maybe your aunty brought it to you to eat because you haven't eaten since yesterday".

One mind told him from behind.

'Which means aunty Sarah is still kind to me' Williams thought.

The other mind said no,

"Had it been that she cares she would have rather called you back to stay with her other than sending a plate of food to you?"

He became a little afraid.

"Who might have brought this food to me?" he asked himself.

After a while, he stood up from where he sat and made for the door.

The early morning sun is fully shining on the surface of the earth.

Williams could imagine playing with his siblings under that morning sun.

But it was unfortunate he had none.

Later that day, he made plans to relocate from the building he was in to another convenient place.

"Should I go back to aunty Sarah and plead for forgiveness?" He asked himself.

"No, I can remember it when she last warned me never to come close to her residence."

"I have to make fast moves for a better life."

"Let me carry on with my life since no one is ready to bear with me."

All these are words he used to convince and motivate himself.

The hope for food for the remaining hours of the day depends on how he works towards it.

Not knowing who to go to or what to do he slept that night with an empty stomach.

Williams left his 1st street building and made for another one.

He went to a far place where he knew that his aunt won't set her eyes on him.

He started a new life all again.

It was late in the evening and Williams was still loitering about.

He hasn't found a place to settle down and lay his head down for that night.

He was weak, very weak, and tired.

This was the effect of hunger on him.

"Hey, you"!

Williams heard a voice that called him from behind.

He looked back to know who was that.

He saw a huge guy who was waving to him to come.

Although he can't see his face clearly because it's already dark.

"Are you talking to me"?

Williams asked as he came closer to the guy.

"What are you doing outside at this time of the day"?

The harsh voice of the guy will tell you how dangerous the guy is without asking questions.

"I.. I… was, I am looking..…." Williams tried to explain.

"Shut up"! The guy told him.

"Bring the bag you are carrying".

Williams was much afraid.

'What did the guy think was in his bag'?

'Just his little worn-out cloth and nothing more.

'Why will he ask for his bags'?.

"Sir.. sir there is nothing there".

"I just have my clothes in them," he said.

The guy made for the bag to pull it out with force.

Williams held it tightly and did not let go.

A heavy slap landed on William's face with a terrifying voice that accompanied it.

"You are dead for not obeying me at first," The guy said.

Williams was still holding his bag tightly to himself,

The guy was still forcefully pulling it.

He gave Williams another slap.

"I can see you are stubborn."

Williams was not made fit to fight this guy.

He just wished he can at that moment at least free himself and his property and run away from him.

He gets hold of the man with his teeth on his right little finger.

The guy shouted but still didn't let go.

Little Williams made to bite the finger off to no avail.

The guy seems to be stronger than his bite.

He held Williams by the right hand and flung him out of his way.

He took the bag and worked away bearing the pain from the bite.

"My bag,". Williams cried out.

He hasn't still know why the guy was after his bag.

He got up from where he fell and ran after the guy.

He can now feel an unusual strength that entered him.

He ran faster to the guy, held his bag, and pulled it out in seconds.

He wailed in pain and forcefully kicked the guy on his groins.

Which drew him some meters away from Williams and send pain into his brain.
